If a Port deal is likely, I’d try send 8 and 11 to GWS for 3 and 21 with a shuffle of other picks. If the Bergman interest is legit, wouldn’t hurt pushing for 8 and Bergman for Dunks and our 2nd.

Take Sheezle with 3, try move 21 up higher in to the teens and take best available KPD.

Sheezle, Bergman, best avail KPD. Throw a few darts with later picks. Would be an ok off season.

There is no way in hell GWS do that. Even if you take out 21

Depending on what players clubs are wanting at draft time, a lot would entertain dropping down to get multiple picks.

I’d always be keen for us to entertain these types of offers when we have higher picks. Most years, you can almost guarantee getting two good players in the first 10-15 picks, imo.

If we had Pick 3 and a club offered two later picks around the 8-11 pick range, I’d be all over it. I only use this year as an example of us going the other way because there’s apparent interest in Sheezle.

We need to draft in Defenders this draft.

Midfielders are moving clubs for either more opportunity OR money, top line KPD/Gen Def aren’t.

There will be some good defenders available this draft, we just have to take them.

Ideally:
Ginbey (Midfielder/Def) who loves winning 1v1 contests and tackles to hurt. Pick ~ 10-15.
Weddle (smallish KPD) this guy hates losing contests and would suit a medium defender role, although will be our best 1v1 defender when he gets stronger. Pick ~20-25.
Hayes (tall intercept defender) could become a KPP but otherwise is a great intercept defender at his young age. Pick ~15-20.

This is suggest a sample but these guys all look close to being good enough for our defence already.

8 and 11 is a strong draft hand. Whether we use it or trade it either way?

Am I right in saying that after the first few you can throw a blanket over the next dozen?

Looking back over the last 5-6 years we are far from an outlier in not having a great year after losing a GF (Adelaide and GWS didn't make finals, West Coast lost an Elimination Final to us). So I don't really think it is panic stations list-wise as some are suggesting. That said, we've got some clear deficiencies with the list (as well as obvious ones with the game plan).

For me the clear issues are:
1. We lack a decent tall and medium size defender who are good 1 on 1. I don't mind Gardner and think he's rate of improvement suggests he will be a decent tall, but he will be suited to a 2nd tall. Richards and to a lesser extent Dale are okay defensively, but aren't great at locking down a dangerous small (a la Walters last night), and Duryea is on his last legs.
2. We lack a strong wing. I feel as though we're searching for a strong overhead and defensive minded wing to play as an important link up player out of defense (and become less reliance on the brilliance of Dale and Daniel). We've tried Williams there to varying success, Schache lasted half a game, Roarke played the role towards the end of last year, but none have made it their own. For the other wing we've brought Hunter back, and rotated a host a players through. Personally, I would prefer B.Smith as an offensive wing, Hunter moved on, and recruit a defensive tall winger.
3. A second ruck. For all of English's faults, it is now rare that he gets smashed in the middle. We tend to get beaten up more when we've got our second ruck, and it puts even more pressure on our mids. Lobb will be a big improvement here.
4. Leadership. Pretty clear we lack some older heads who can get us back on track (see last night when they stole the momentum and we kept trying to play a fast game. It was the obvious time to slow it down and control the ball movement to take the crowd out of the game and try and pinch a goal slowly).

Accordingly, the movements I would be making are:

OUT:
Dunkley (I think he's gone) to Port for Pick 8
JJ (who I'd rather keep) to GC - 3rd round compo pick as a FA - Pick 48
Crozier to North/GC/Whoever - for a future 4th rounder.
Hunter for a future 3rd/4th round pick or pick upgrade.
Schache and Pick 65 to Collingwood for Pick 49
Martin, Wallis, Butler delisted.

IN:
Lobb for Pick 37.
Jones as a FA.
Bergman and a Future 3rd for Pick 29 and a Future 2nd
Rowe as a DFA

Picks: 8, 11, 48, 49 (would prefer to target an experienced defender with one of these pics but unsure who is available).

2023 team:

FB: Khamis/Keath, Jones, Duryea
HB: Richards, Gardner, Dale
C: Bergman, Libba, B.Smith
HF: Treloar, Naughton, West
FF: Weightman, Lobb, JUH
R: English, Bont, Macrae
Int: Daniel, Mclean, Williams, McNeil
SUB: Scott

Key position depth: Sweet, Keath/Khamis, Cordy, Bruce, Darcy
Small/Mid defensive depth: O'brien, Bedendo, Raak, Cleary (Key area to improve through draft)
Mid depth: Garcia, R.Smith, Scott, McComb
Forward Depth: Hannan, VDM, Rowe (Another key area to improve)

Going off a recent article, West Coast could be looking to trade down as they quite like Elijah Hewett who is expected to go mid to late first round.

I don't see GWS doing it as they will likely have a host of 1st round picks with Tarranto, Hopper and Bruhn probably leaving.

The quicker Dunkley decides the better for all.

Tears in the room after the game speaks volumes (assuming this is correct)

I think Dogs board needs to show players things are changing and start to show them map ahead especially in areas of assistant coaches.

That's clutching at straws really... you don't think other players would be disappointed after that?

May be it’s clutching at straws yes and I am sure players and staff were all disappointed but if it just seems that Dunks is on his way out and this is just another action that fits the puzzle.
