We can if the reason he wants to be there is because of family/Girlfriend, you hold no credibility when you say a reason then pick a particular club for that reason when there is another that can offer your former club a better deal

Gold Coast are likely to have to try and shed contracts this year and have their inside midfield brigade relatively settled. I doubt the Suns would even be particularly interested.

What a very disappointing outcome. Do others not feel it as a stinging reflection of our club/coaching/direction, that he has effectively moved on for the same coin?

What is really going on at WO…

(However, if its a duration question, then I fully endorse the Sammy Power way of 4 yrs max contractual terms.)

The only solace I take is that it probably allows B. Smith to enter the centre square and inject some breakaway power and speed which we have been lacking.
We offered 5 years.

I tend to agree with this. I would say that Dunks was a good midfielder but not a champion midfielder. His kicking was often not very good. His goal kicking for goal was pretty average. Had games where he would go missing quite a bit. Strong player, but I don't think we will miss him that much. Overall rating 6 to 6.5 out of 10.
He's going to finish top 3 in our B&F and led our team for brownlow votes.

Let's not get too revisionist here. He's a massive loss and a rare two way running inside mid. We can shuffle players around to try and cover him on field but it reinforces the rumours about the off field problems we've had this year

Like Lobb? Keath?

I think a large reason for Dunkley leaving is that from a player marketability perspective he was a fair way down the pecking order at the Digs

Bailey Smith, Bont, Naughton would all be ahead of him with JUH and Sam Darcy overtaking him in the next year or two. Other than Bont they're all younger than him and he'd be directly competing for the same dollars off field.

At Brisbane you would have Neale and maybe Daniher?

AFL still struggle for profile in QLD. Moving out of VIC will hurt his marketability

if he is leaving for the off field problems such as players not been professional what does this say about Bont? Dale? Jack M? CD and all the players that were prepared to sign on.

There maybe an element of the above but there is a Greek saying that I think is apt

The Apple does not fall far from the tree

I think that has played a bigger part than he been so professional and other players not.

Dunkley couldn't be more plain or boring, no matter how good of a player he becomes he's never going to be the number on the back of kids guernseys. Even at Brisbane he'll be living in the shadow of Neale, Cameron, Mcluggage, Rayner, Daniher, Ashcroft....

Kind of pathetic to watch him try so hard to become something that guys like Martin and Smith naturally walked into by just being themselves. Guarantee he has nightmares of Bazlenka's instagram follower count.

You obviously don’t live in QLD. Dunkley will be almost anonymous. IF he is moving here for marketing purposes, he is very poorly advised.

I think this trade gets done with minimal fuss.

Lions lose 2022 1st, 2023 1st.
Lions gain: Dunks, 600-800 points (2 picks in the 40’s)

Dogs lose: Dunks, 2 picks in the 40’s
Dogs gain: 2022 1st, 2023 1st

There is no need to over complicate it further than that.

We could then flip the lions picks for a top 10 this year if we felt the need or trade on for other assets.

In all likelyhood, the departure of players like JJ, Hunter, et al. will net us a little bit of currency to put the points on the table.

Does not have to be complicated at all. If we can package up 29 + 37 to get McStay compo if it's around the 20 mark i'd be looking at that too just to force Peter Bell to take a future 3rd and look like a mug

Lloyd meek has a 600k a year offer in front of him from GWS. Clearly they’ve lost faith in Briggs, Preuss & Flynn. At least one likely to be shaken loose.

Might be an idea to bolster our ruck stocks
Aren’t GWS trying to reduce their cap issues? $600k is nuts

600k for a fringe ruck is ludicrous. Yep I’d certainly have a look at one of those names.

No to Preuss, Briggs isn't very mobile. I'd look at Flynn though

No wonder GWS have cap issues and are constantly having a fire sale.
The only saving grace is if that means they cut two $300-350k rucks. Given Pruess is onto his third club that means Briggs and Flynn would both be gettable.

Flynn is a NSW boy and has been part of their academy since he was a kid so it might be hard to pry him loose. Shocking injury history too
