Glad Dunkley is gone. Mercenary narcissistic princess.

Sad about Hunter especially due to family connections. Cordy did well for himself.

Lobb and Jones are gambles but at least we are making changes.

Power is a gun. Never rolls over but acts in good faith when we are the buyer.

My main concern now is the fact our club is not robust enough to handle problems with our players and finds it easier to jettison them than to work through the issues and improve player and club accordingly.

This isn’t a sack Bevo post. But there is talk on here sometimes that “we can’t sack our premiership coach because he is only one of two ever and has got us into another Grand Final as well”. Bevo has never afforded that luxury to our players of our only premiership and another GF appearance. Hamling, Roughhead, Stringer, Dahlhaus, all finishing at other clubs, Matty Boyd pushed out now three Premiership stars who also played in the other GF, out.
I know we have to do this, and if half the rumours about L Hunter are true, it’s time to move on. But this also goes true for coaches if they lose form, they can’t just be kept on sentiment.
Bevo needs a strong, stable year next year and needs to overhaul our defensive game plan.

The word is that the coach was not as ‘off’ Hunter as the players. I believe Jack McRae was the main driver for him to be cut loose.

Outside of Dunkley we lost Hunter who played 10 games this year and looked decent in about 2 of them and had become a liability on field and a cancer off it, Cordy who everyone knows is nothing more than a list clogging battler that I still have no idea why people are suddenly rating now that he's gone as they bagged him every week he played, Schache a bloke with all the talent in the world just doesn't have it between the ears and we and Brisbane have now shipped him off cheap for a reason. We've brought in a KPD who was stiff to miss last years AA squad and a genuine forward ruck who just kicked 36 goals this season. We have upgraded our 2 biggest weaknesses and now have extra picks in the draft to fix our wing/small forward issues and the only player of note that we actually lost was Dunkley who was OOC and gone anyway was it a perfect window no of course not but how people are so negative on our window is beyond me

As Khamis and Sweet need to be promoted to main list, our overall list can only be 43 this year, down from 44 (unless we draft another Cat B). This obviously means one extra out than comes in. Have assumed we do no draft trading, unlikely to be the case so lets hope we do indeed improve our hand.

Why do they have to be promoted to the main list?

Rated 4 out 10 in HS for the trade. If you look at what we got in and what we gave away plus the age of what we got in 4 is very generous. However if you look at who we had to re-resign this season this trade was a reset. I thought we were always lose one of the re-signings if had my choice it would have been Caleb but Dunkley was the most likely. Hunter is replaceable but do not like the fact we are paying the rumoured 50% of salary.

Where it does look bad is when compared to what the Cats and tigers were able to achieve.

Hack journalists 'rating' our trade period. Spare me.

Geelong and Richmond could do nothing and they would still 'win'. 🥱

Two below average players in Cordy and Schache gone, Hunter who was clearly a cancer in the place and Dunkley who has plenty of limitations and whose playing style is easily replaceable.

The way the media and pundits look at our trades is 'oooh three premiership players gone...oooh that's bad'. They're too lazy to look beyond the headlines as to why.

Meanwhile, we get a FF and FB, give Timmy a chop out in the ruck, more flexibility up forward and solid reliability down back against that gorilla forwards (our achilles). Structurally a helluva lot better.

However, let's not interrupt the media and their w***fest. Have they started on 2023 trades yet? 🙄

Libba? Biggs? Bailey Smith?
I think we're ok, but there is a line and Hunter crossed it (allegedly, and multiple times)

Why do they have to be promoted to the main list?

Not sure if the rules have changed recently but you used to only be able to spend three years on the rookie list after being drafted. From that point you either had to be upgraded or delisted. Roarke, for example, had to be delisted a couple of seasons ago and the redrafted onto the rookie list.

So we lose two best and fairest premiership players in their twenties and a tall that showed real promise in defense (but was never given a proper go).
What a debacle.

Pretty average result for us I think, my mind may change if we understood why Hunter was dumped (is there truth to rumours) and Bris have a horrid injury run next year, lose their coach and miss the 8

We must have decent salary cap space now given We had offered Dunkley a bit and the salary level wasn’t the issue he left plus Hunter was on good $$$ off a long term contract he signed after a b&f win

might explain why MacRae was a shadow of himself in the back half of the year

West Coast were a consensus bottom 2 side during pre-season 2018 among journos. They screwed that up by, you know, winning the flag.

Do you think GWS would be interested in a swap of 11 + 21 (+ maybe 39) for 15, 18 & 31?

15 - Weddle
18 - Clarke
31 - Outside pace

I'd also be bidding on Fletcher at 15. Lions wouldn't pass on him and he fills a need for us.

I think we will miss Dunkley, but not as much as you might think. Players will be able to go into their best positions, I think Treloar will be better without Dunkley and having McLean back will help.

Lobb just needs to protect both Darcy and Marra, the Bulldogs have had a habit of throwing our young forwards to the wolves and destroying their confidence. Having a proper ruck to help out Big Chilly is a massive reset.

I am excited for the draft and hope we get a good midfielder, but regardless not having our picks chewed up for one player it’s going to be good.

Trading is easy when you hold all the cards and can sit back and be opportunistic on deals.

We had a tough hand to play this year, it happens, reckon we came out ok.

Regradless of your opinion on Lobb. The key factor is...Bevo will play him! hence we should have a proper structure for 2023.

Yes we will still get beaten in tapouts, but we will have 2, 205cm guys, and we will always have one of them in the ruck, this is huge for us.

and if Jones is still elite, and Bont and Macrae and a few others regain form, we will challenge

Yeah, Bevo has enough bookends now that the structure can be stable if he sticks to one. No more Cordy and Buku at CHF or in the ruck. No need to change between 1-3 KPDs throughout the season.

Would also reflect well if we had a couple of years without shedding best 22-25 players and consolidated the playing group.

My concern too. It needs to stop at some point. Bev’s been in charge for 8 years, so if the list isn’t all singing from the same hymn book the spotlight needs to turn from the individual players to him.

Beveridge has had long enough to foster a strong culture. He's failed in this. We have just lost two best and fairest premiership players in their twenties. We have lost a tall who showed real promise in defense but was never given a proper go in this position.

We have recently lost two highly-rated assistant coaches.

We haven't brought in proven leaders (on and off the field).

I can't remember the last time we made the top 4.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't see us making finals in 2023.

Dunkley out and Treloar into the midfield helps us a lot as we will finally have some explosive pace in the mix again, Garcia and West both have the opportunity to step up and replace Dunkley's in and under work.

Lobb also helps Naughton more than Darcy and Marra for me as now they won't be able to sag off Schache/Sweet/Cordy and have to actually take our 2nd forward target seriously.

We also now have a genuine 2nd ruck and won't get dominated for 5-10 minutes each quarter and can keep setting up as normal the whole game.

I still have some concern over Jones, but I think any football fan would consider as a forward/ruck Lobb is well ahead of Hannan, Cordy, a raw Khamis, Sweet or a cooked Martin. They're the players we rotated through the position (happy to add a name if anyone else was tried there).

I think Dunkley is a massive loss - big bodied, marking, tall midfielders are very important - but Lobb is a massive improvement on our KPF stocks and I'm quietly cautious Jones will be ok, especially in the second half of 2023.
West & McLean would want a big pre-season. They could be the big winners of our trade period.

It's a difficult one.And each case should be dealt individually. But agree strong personalities will always clash.Thats where one person should never have ultimate power. And assistants need to be more rigid without fear of Retaliation.

On paper the Dunkley and Hunter losses look bad- both entering prime age for footy, ex premiership & FnB players, but paper footy doesn't win games. Both Jones and Lobb provide a mature big body on the park...one back and one forward. Hopefully allowing the continued development of Darcy, Jamarra and Naughton...Hopefully Bruce will better for the preseason, so another mature big body, most likely to use up forward and back.....Bevo really needs to use this opportunity to get games into Jamarra and Darcy, as in 2 years time, both will be stepping up, as Jones, Lobb and Bruce start falling off the AFL cliff.....will be no excuses for the coach to ruck with his mids now, plenty of tall options now, hopefully the coach uses them and with a plan B n C if plan A goes pear shaped

The real solace I take in losing Dunkley is that the Crows lost Dangerfield at the end of 2015, and made a Grand Final in 2017.
It's tough to lose an A grader but it is possible to still build and improve a side.
