Perhaps we look at Lohmann from Lions VFL? At least he would be competition for Clarke and IF he is really good, we could play a pressure player from a bench spot.

Croft rising up boards. Likely mid-late first round.
Lohmann would be playing instead of Weightman on current form imo.

We're not really a destination club so we over pay if we want a good player. Aside from Treloars circumstances we haven't had a decent player nominate us over another club that I can remember.
We always build through the draft
We also don't talk to many players that are worth anything.
Steven May went to Melbourne because they are a destination club? Do you think Melbourne would be talking to him if all they were going to offer Gold Coast is a string of second rounders?

From what I’ve seen at VFL Level JOD looks like a much better prospect than Buss. I’d be playing him now as the 3rd tall defender instead of his currently undefined role.
Aside from Darcy and JUH he looks like the most talented player we have recruited the last couple of seasons.
Buss on the hand looks like a smart footballer with good ball use but needs to improve his on 1v1 work and influence contest aerially more. Think he’d get a score kicked on him at afl level if he plays much now and even into next season.

I would’ve agreed with this at the start of the year. But his been really poor at vfl level. He looks a mile off playing afl at the moment.
The biggest problem I have is there hasn’t been improvement in his main deficiency which is workrate. His pressure isn’t manic enough. He won’t have a career unless he can change this as a back or forward.

Everyone talks about Bergman but the high upside young player I’d be targeting is Lachie Ash. He’s still unsigned (although probably high priority for GWS) and is a beautiful user of the ball, is quick, and would be an immediate improvement on the non-Williams wing.
Noticed he’s an exceptionally good kick. A couple of times yesterday he gave off 40=50 m passes with good accuracy.
Just needs a preseason or two now.
Callaghan and O’Halloran as well.

I’d consider Callaghan untouchable. I liked O’Halloran in his draft year, and would love him as an inside mid to eventually replace Treloar given his work in congestion and burst out of stoppages

This alone grabs my interest. Being quick is also an attraction.
We need to make sure our list is leavened with enough players who have vision and can kick accurately under pressure. As Bailey Smith has shown us the value of getting 30-odd possessions is greatly diminished if your DE% is way down and many of them result in turnovers.
Yes they need to have other attributes as well, but we definitely could do with some more good users of the ball.
I always liked Ash. Was good u18 level and was disappointed he went to GWS. We would have to have interest in him. Great kick but he usually makes good decisions with it too.

Honestly, I'd still consider as a FA. Likely he gets back to football at some level by the end of next year, gets a full pre-season under his belt then has a few years of football left in him. We get an AFL standard defender for no draft capital.

I said at the time Lobb was a strange recruitment at 30 and a 4 year contract with our developing talls and Sweet as a back up. Why did we need a soft tall who had always displayed spasmodic form. Yeah, we needed him about 3 years to 4 years when we second rucking Dunkley but not now with Darcy, JOD and Jordan Croft next season.
