Bevo said they plan the midfield/ centre clearance set up for each week based on whether they think they will win or lose taps. I'd imagine on past performance they plan around losing most of them nearly every week.

"Alright boys were going to get pansed in the ruck this week....again..... what are you going to do about it?"

i wonder how many of our mids think the same answer as me...."get a new ruckman"

Wonder if now that he’s winning a decent share of hitouts but poor at directing them, or when they think he’s going to win them but he has one of his random Timid English games, it‘s harder to set up to.

Who do you think will be off the list at the end of the year?

Assuming we sign JJ, McLean, West, Dunkley, Smith and Garcia. I think Duryea has done enough for a 1 yr ext.

That leaves Schache, Cordy, Raak, McComb, Martin, Wallis, Butler and Parker.

I would keep one of either Cordy or Schache as depth and trade or delist the other. Bev loves McComb so he earns another deal. Raak looks to have shown enough to go around again. Not sure about Parker.

That leaves Martin to retire, Wallis to delist/retire, Butler to delist and Cordy/Schache to trade/delist.

That allows us 4 list changes. If we sign Jones, trade for Lobb. That leaves us with 2 draftees.

Maybe we are lowballing JJ like we did for Dahlhaus to get us another list spot and save some cash.

Thoughts?

If we bring in both Lobb and Jones I think both Cordy and Schache are gone.

Ruck depth: English, Sweet, ???
Forward depth: Naughton, JUH, Bruce, Lobb, Darcy
Back depth: Keath, Jones, Gardner, O'Brien, Khamis

Cordy is versatile and gives his all, despite his limitations. I'd definately keep as depth

Who is/are our developing mids? With West, Garcia, McNeil operating as forwards, Hunter a wingman? Wallis a forward only (imo), Jones a wing flanker, Roarke the same, does that leave only McLean as an available mid? With our plethora of hbfs I guess Treloar or Richards are options but to me we seem thin in this area too. Scott maybe too.

Agree that the list in question will be:

Likely:

Martin - delist/retire

Butler - just hasn’t come along

Wallis - should go around again and don’t want to lose but if you were him you would have a go at a club needing inside Mids badly - North or Hawthorn should pick him up

[three minimum above and I reckon three more from below]

Should stay but would not be surprised:

VDM - best 22 when playing and has the mongrel we are missing. Seems too good to be stuck in VFL. May feel he is behind McNeil and Williams on Wing and a few at HFF. Hope not I would play him ahead of a couple in our team ATM. Also could see him in defence - has a hard edge and genuine running power - ok field kick - goal kicking a bit sus.

McLean - if he continues to play in VFL for end of the year and shows he has it - will stay and I hope he does - he is a Very good player if fit and is different to what we have. Again hope not.

Hunter - is obviously struggling off the field and may need a fresh start. He is AA level talent but appears to be slipping. We miss his best but looks off the pace ATM.

Reasons to go:

Crozier - good enough but can’t get a game even when we need HBFs. Hannan played in front - has a few years left and would be looking to go. Probably loss and shame on us - unless it is off the track stuff out of our control.

Schache - would probably go if he got regular games. I reckon like Peter Wright he will just need games to be a solid but maybe not star player. Should focus only on defence really didn’t get enough games there - especially in VFL to develop anyone - body work is his obvious fault and this is a way to get it - many inconsistent forwards have become good defenders and at 24 still has time. But At 72 games he should have shown he can work as a forward and he hasn’t - if that is his role then we struggle to hold his spot - we need coverage down back for Keath - Darcy is a year away. Would keep.

Sweet isn’t getting much of a go - is the age when rucks tend to develop - is still improving and so I would keep but depends who we recruit. If Lobb he stays as very different - if Briggs or Meek he might go. Even with Darcy coming we are a ruck short for at least a years. Would keep.

JJ might just need a fresh start. Has the ability and wish he showed it more with us. If he goes somewhere he could be great for them so that’s good for him/bad for us.

Roarke has apparently been passed by McComb, Scott. Is not killing it in the VFL and may have given all he can but now given up. Would have him in front of McComb everyday but match committee doesn’t and that is saying something loudly. Probably a loss.

Scott, McComb, Hannan - one could go. I believe Scott is the best then Hannan then McComb but reckon Bevo has it the other way. Absolutely loves Hannan - reckons he can do anything - must carve it up at training with no pressure. One loss.

MCNeil has shown too much and is on or about - think he will be safe but may look elsewhere. I think if JJ goes he stays - if not he might look for a trade. Only 20 and has good upside - maybe a trade home for McAsey to also come home?

We have been chasing a third tall solution with TOB, Parker and Raak - all 193. TOB has a two year deal I believe so may need to stay but would be a certainty to delist if not and so expect one of Raak and Parker may struggle to stay. Probably loss.

Raak has real Dale Morris like traits and I would prefer him. Don’t like the forward line move for him - shows a bit of uncertainty. Parker has shown a bit and could be safe - Khamis is safe but not really tall enough to fill the need so wouldn’t be surprised if we kept all.

And we still have Dunkley and Smith to resign with teams chasing both of them - will be hard to fight off for both and we should be prepared lose one and get a level of trade/compo will will likely reckon is b.s but hopeful this is ok.

Expect we will trade in three for need (KPD, Ruck and small defender- Duryea/Crozier replacement unless we can get Ronke and three in draft. KPD, Ruck and small forward.

Probably do need another decent you mid - what is our second pick?

It's going to be an interesting off season. We have a lot of players who don't seem up to it, but if we cut them all we'd have a big gap in the list to be filled with draftees.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Crozier. He'd get a regular gig at a few clubs.

Can and should also tear up Roarke's contract. Wouldnt cost much, and is a geniune clogger.

Fair summary

Could realistically cut:
Martin
Butler
Wallis
Hunter
Crozier
R Smith
McComb

Can't see us missing out on much from that 7 who aren't playing anyway (except McComb).

Plus possible trades we'd get something for:
Dunkly
JJ
(and Hunter already listed above).

Hunter, Crozier and R Smith are all contracted, so they can’t be cut. Only traded if anyone is willing to take them.

Hunter May get us something like 3rd rounded in return but the others maybe a set of steak knives only.

Bevo seems to be a fan of McComb so he won’t be going anywhere.

Martin is set to retire.

Yeah but I'd be fine with losing that 7

I think the issue with Vandermeer is that his hamstrings are made of tissue paper. Just can't stay on the park.

For those wanting Sam Skinner last year, hes up for grabs

Its a fair point. I‘ve watched the VFL quite a lot this year via the app, and our preferred centre square set up appears to be Sullivan, Garner (obviously both not listed) and Mclean.

That leaves Schache, Cordy, Raak, McComb, Martin, Wallis, Butler and Parker.

Schache trade/nominate for PSD
Cordy stay
Raark will stay on
McComb & Hannan will stay on as Bevo's love children
Martin gone
Wallis trade/nominate for PSD
Butler & Parker, ???
JJ - trade/nominate for PSD
Hunter - traded
Dunkley - traded
