Are they just throwing up names now?
Yes. They did the same thing about Clayton Oliver an hour ago and then someone else started reporting it as actual information.

Trade Radio an absolute cesspool of an invention. Journalists spitball for 2 weeks straight and give opinions and other journalists take those opinions as actual information and then report on that.

I know Edmund just guesses and never gets held to account when he is wrong but Baz must go now if there is even any thought he won't re-sign. If you thought the comments around English and Naughton from their manager were frustrating yesterday buckle in for an entire season of "Bailey hasn't really thought of 2025 yet, just concentrated on getting his body right and playing good footy for the Dogs in 2024".
Get used to it. It would be downright comical for Bailey and his management to re-sign or give any definitive answer regarding his future after the disastrous last 18 months on and off the field.

Yep, it will be a nightmare in the media. Behind closed doors though the club would already know whether he is gone or if he's just trying to add some dollars to his deal. If its the former he must be traded now.

So 0900am next Monday until 1930pm Wed 18th.

The Continental Tyres 2023 AFL trade period.

By my calculations that's 226.5 hours of "interesting"" posting to look forward to on here.

I suggest this board is about to endure one of the all-time collective melts/inanity/jumping at shadows that we've ever seen.

Hopefully it's all worth it at the other end!

And we've still got the "surprise! Look who we got as assistants!" excitement of tomorrow night.

After Bont and Liber street the field to finish 1 and 2, then daylight, in the Charlie.

Good times, eh? Can't wait. 🙂😆🤔🤪

If it comes down to Hawks and Geelong next year
Dogs would be in a tougher trade state

I can see Geelong being back in the 8 and Hawks being on the fringe

So ideally, we would have a mid round 1 offer with a future

Compare to potentially a top 10 pick this year and future first

Yes so if he’s going to go next year , move needs to happen this year. Much better negotiating position with Cats and Hawks interested.

Just playing devils advocate, can we traded him now? He is I think under contract so cannot be traded without his agreement. Correct? If Freo offer us the best trade outcome again he can say no. So is our only option to get a trade done now to rely on the “ goodwill and nice guyness “ of the Cats and hope they pay a lot more than they would have to in 12 months if his heart is seton going there? We could walk him to the draft in 12 months to make a point but that’s nose spite face stuff. The system seems against us unless the player loves the club as much as we do.

Compo is a joke

For RFA, clubs should have to trade a pick around the money value they are offering
FA compo is completely screwed. It needs to be reviewed this off-season, ideally removed entirely (or otherwise something like you suggest). The blatant rorting of the system is a blight on the league which calls itself professional.

You say it out loud 'Ben McKay. Pick 3. Ben. McKay. 3'

Eighteen places higher than he was originally drafted.

Ridiculous.

ALL-AUSTRALIAN IN NO HURRY TO EXTEND

TIM ENGLISH is in no rush to kickstart contract talks at the Western Bulldogs, as the supremely talented ruck prepares to enter a season where he will be among the biggest free agents in the game.

The Bulldogs big man is coming off a career-best season this year, recognised with All-Australian honours for the first time, and will hit his free agency campaign next season when his deal expires at the end of 2024.

Speaking on AFL.com.au's trade and draft show Gettable earlier this year, Bulldogs list manager Sam Power said the club would look to begin talks over extending English "as early as possible" to avoid speculation about his future.

However, the ruckman's agent Andrew McDougall from Corporate Sports Australia said English's sole focus remained on ensuring he was fit and healthy heading into the upcoming pre-season.

"He's a free agent, so it does change things," McDougall told Gettable on Monday.
"The last conversation I had with him, he's really comfortable. He's looking forward to a big pre-season. Both him and Aaron Naughton were really keen to get the club into finals and will both be staying at the club next year.

"They really want to drive that club forward next year. Twelve months is a long time in footy, but at the same time they're just focusing on their pre-season, having a bit of a holiday and then heading off."

But, despite confirming that English – as well as Naughton – would be at the Bulldogs next season, he was noncommittal in putting a timeframe on when the ruckman would start discussions with the club over an extension.

"He [English] has got a few moving parts," McDougall said.

"His partner [Rudi Ellis] was with the West Coast Fever last year in Perth. He's got a property here in Melbourne, but also she's got a property in Perth. There are a number of factors, so a lot of things change.

"But, at the same time, he just wants to focus on his pre-season. It's probably too early to have any type of dialogue at the moment, so we're just going to wait for a while to get things moving and see how he settles in for the start of the year." – Riley Beveridge

Looks like Coffield will request a trade this week or early next week.
Dogs have also spoken to Billings management about his willingness to smooth out his current 2 year contract over 3 years, plus incentives for games played.
To dogs?

Both would be handy pick ups if they can stay on the park. What's the confidence level on the likelihood of it happening?
Coffield is just a matter of officially nominating is how I understood it, so all but locked in.
Billings is still a long way out and any move would be dependent on him willing to smooth out his contract with the hope of getting more game time.

Yes to Coffield. Billings is a cabbage.

As maligned as he is I think Billings has shown enough over the years to warrant a gamble by our club.

I agree with another poster who said they'd prefer a wingman who can run back defensively but we desperately need skill and speed.

Poulter has shown glimpses of running back and helping in defence. (Any one else remember Poulter fumbling or giving away a free the oppo goaled from and the camera panned to Bevo going off?)
