Right.

So we've given up picks 10 & 20ish & next year's first & next year's 3rd for pick 6 and Harmes. And we've knocked back Hawks pick 4 and future 1st for Baz.

And we can't land any assistant coaches.

And people are happy with our off season so far?

Just checking to make sure I'm on the same page.
Our off season is not all that bad
Naughton 8 year contract extension
Traded in pick 4
Traded in James Harmes
Soon we will Trade in Nick Coffield

10 and 20 were going to be eaten by Croft. It’s the next year first rounder that’s purple. If our first next year is pick 12 to 18, then trading up to 6, and getting Croft, Coffield and Harmes is a massive win. If it ends up being pick 4 - Bevo gets the arse and we will have to hear all about what a Gumby Power was to give it up for 3 months in 2024.

I’m more and more comfortable that we simply had to take some risks given our list and performances at the back end of this year. I’d like to give JUH some reasons to re-sign with a more balanced list profile and hopefully a decent coaches bench.
We could have traded our first rounders for next years first's and still get Croft. And turn up to the 2024 (which is full of midfielders) with 3 picks in the 1st round. That's only one option off the top of my head.
Instead of eating into our salary cap with Harmes, we could pick up Sullivan from the VFL if we want more midfield depth. Again off the top of my head.

Looks to me like the club is trying to save face for the season we've just had.

To be honest, it doesn't irritate me. I don't feel like we were reamed at all here. It's fine.

Future 3rd is somewhere in the 50s where it's basically far more miss than hit. Here we know exactly what we're getting.
Irritated is probably too strong a word but I am disappointed. It’s like we went into Harvey Norman and asked “ how much is that tv”. The answer is “$2000” so we said” will you take $2500?”. Who does that?

Sanders is an underated gun actually the best pure inside mid in the draft , I actually think him and mckercher end up better than Reid, has great balance in everything attack defense, is quicker than most inside mids a strong mark a good kick makes great decisions, Larke medalist one of the best players in the Coates league Grand final

Sam Power, Josh Schache, Andrew Hooper, Danny Southern and Steve Kolyniuk were also Larke medalists 😉

Hmm. He was contracted, so if we really wanted him then we had to pay something. Uncontracted he probably walks for a fourth pick or later.

Isn’t a future 3rd a late pick? After FS, FA, NGA and North 2 compo (likely Eagles next) our 3rd will be in 50’s and these days lucky to be 60 drafted.
It was a cap dump for an unwanted player. These types of deals would usually cost a 4th rounder / late pick upgrade at absolute most. I'm guessing Power wanted it done ASAP because it seems an overpay

Yeah okay I’m on board with Billings too, if we look at our team which played late in the season and swap the following:

Billings for Poulter, Harmes for Baker, Watson for Scott, Coffield for Doc Etc

All of a sudden it’s looking pretty strong, these guys aren’t world beaters but they don’t need to be - they just need to play a role and they compliment our elite core. It also means the guys that have been pushed out are now depth and aren’t too bad as last picked etc it’s only when you bundle them altogether they get awfully sucky.

Good list management for where we’re at IMO

Billings Libba Treloar
English Bont Baz

Dale JOD JJ
Red Jones Coffield

Macrae, Daniel, Harms, Williams

That’s a bloody awesome side to be honest, then you look at the depth:

Scott, Baker, Poulter, VDM can come in and plug a gap, Cleary, Gallagher, Clarke, AJ coming through as young smalls. Darcy, Croft & Buss coming through as talls. Keath & Gardner as KPD depth, Buku as KPF depth (and can just rearrange the 3 talls if we have injuries.

Pushing out our bottom 6 to genuine depth by improving their spots with guys like Billings & Harmes has huge flow on effects to our depth and overall list.

Love this time of year...

Cut it out, there’s no room for pragmatism in this place.
