Great outcome.

Considering we had to trade out of the first round for 2 years (JUH and Darcy) we had to keep Dunkley.

It was the right decision at the time and it proved to be the right one.

I wouldn't put much faith in what McClure has to say.

No idea if it’s true. But McClure is very close the the Connors team who manage Baz. Wouldn’t be surprised if they leaked it to him.

Yes they said they had not spoken to Smith and Sam Edmund never said they did.

What Sam Edmund said was along the line Cats were considering targeting Smith as a possible inclusion to their club. They were formulating what that might look like

Exactly, his at his lowest value trade wise aswell. If it were the case he wants out (he doesn’t) you'd hold for another year and back him in to get some form back.

As much as it would be a total disaster to lose Bailey Smith to Geelong. It would be an even bigger disaster to tie him down on a high value long term contract if he can't improve his kicking.

This is the flip side, giving him $700k+ per year would be an awful decision.

Whatever opinion you have about Smith as a player you have to admit a 22yr old top ten pick who’s shown the ceiling Bailey has wanting out, just 12 months after our 25yr old BnF winner wanted out (for the 2nd time) is an indictment on the club

Who said it was Geelong? And they hadn’t spoken to him then…honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see him go

I'm of the opposite view. They would like to keep him but would certainly listen to any reasonable offer for him. Then if the offer is good enough make a decision on him. It's far better for us to trade him with the upper hand with his contract than next year when he is out of contract. The Dunkley shemozzle should have taught us that.
The first thing that has to be sorted. Does Bailey Smith want to stay at the Dogs? If no or unsure, then it's trade time.

I can understand your line of thought but he is at his lowest possible trade value. If he is determined to leave well then you make the best of a bad situation. If it just he has having a down season you don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

I have no idea what is happening at the Kennel it would appear to be a big turnaround in a short space of time if he did in fact want out. And would have serious ramifications towards our list build with all the talls we have taken.
That's why I would be surprised if the club let him go unless he made it clear the situation is untenable
