Dogs haven't had a 1st round bust since Howard I don't believe so I back in Sanders making the grade.
Nathan Hrovat was technically part of the first round in 2012. But yes we’ve started fantastically well for a long time now.

This is BS.

Disposals: 16.5 Abv Ave
Tackles: 4.6 Elite (3rd best at the Dogs)
Clearances: 2.4 Abv Ave
72% disp efficiency
5.4 cont poss, ave
3.5 Score assists, ave.

He achieved this with only 66% TOG.

Anyone who says this is disappointing for 1st year player who's playing in the guts has no idea.

In terms of Young and Sweet. I don't think people bemoan losing those players specifically. They're more upset that they were never really given the opportunity to succeed. Sweet is a combatant, English is not, and both try to hurt the opposition in different ways. That being said however, getting smashed in the middle at times seems to hurt the team more than Sweet not getting 15 - 20 touches and kicking an occasional goal. A Sweet stinker is less detrimental than an English one.

I wasn't really here nor there with Young, but again, he deserved more of an opportunity than he got.

Lipi is case in point. He went to the Pies, and rather than focus on what he lacks, McRae used him in ways that played to his strengths. This is one of the biggest flaws to Bevos coaching, and it's seemingly something he's lacked since 2016 where a team was thrust on him, and he had to make the best of it. The 2016 team was also full of players who hated being beaten with a passion.

Anyone know much about how Croft has settled in this season and how much he’s developed in 12 months?
From what I've heard
The club expect a Darcy level of development
His body should be prime for pre season and already one of our best runners

Could this logic not be applied to Biggs who Sydney got rid of, or Duryea and Bramble who were either traded for peanuts or delisted?

Yeah, it can. But players that I think he has failed:

  • Roughead - was never tried elsewhere.
  • Schache (prob wasn't going to make it) - but I would have tried on the wing.
  • Lipi - focussed on what he couldn't do.
  • McLean - after his ACL was never really played in the middle which was his best spot.

There were others too but I can't be stuffed looking for them.

Contested beast, strong, determined, never give up, I would take him at our club tomorrow and slot him in.

Gun. Won the Liston by 9 and hopefully captains a VFL flag on Sunday.

Right under our noses Dogs. Go get him.

Good midfielder with a long career at VFL level. Will be 28 at the start of next season which will go against him. We don't often look "right under our noses" for recruits and have missed a few good ones.

These are names I'd look at for the F50/D50.

Hugo Garcia
Ned Long
Taj Campbell-Farrow
Ted Clohesy
Jhye Clark

There's a bunch more too. All these players lay tackles and can hit the scoreboard. These are the players I'd try to trade for, or draft with a Rookie pick.

We have missed a few good ones and we could and have done a lot worse. Hopefully we at least have a look at state level.

Turning 28 so might not have much growth left in him but he's a prolific tackler and has been a good VFL player for quite a while now.

Has Geelong at pick 56 name all over it

He’s an inside mid in his first year that dominated at VFL level, fk me.
I know what he is, I’ve seen him play. He gets about 20 possessions for 50 metres gained.
Good on him for dominating VFL. I thought he was drafted to regenerate our AFL midfield. He will always dominate VFL because he’s gets disposal for fun. In AFL does he have enough pace, work rate, efficiency and versatility to become what we’ve banked on becoming?
I’m not sure he does.

Surely your not writing him off after he's first year ? My god 😂

Lipinski was recruited to play midfield with Collingwood they had him there for 3 games then moved him to wing/flank roles that we was playing with us and didn't want too

What elite traits did Macrae and Libba show in their first seasons?
Are you joking? Libba was off the charts. All the “experts” were gushing about getting Wallis, but it was Libba that had immediate impact.
Macrae got tons of the ball. So much so that I was confident in his second season he was a fantasy steal.
I don’t get the same vibe from Sanders, I think he will be a solid player for us going forward but I guess I was slightly underwhelmed by season 1. I hope his trajectory rapidly turns in season 2 onward

When fit he looked fantastic,

Was taking contested marks up forward and actually slotting the goals after them,

Get a full preseason into him and the opposition fans will be lamenting our F/S luck again

I hope the move forward was due to lack of key fwds at VFL level…
