If that means passing on some Father Son picks, stiff s**t. Unless they are elite first round quality. A couple of make or break years ahead for us. Includes coaching and off field staff as well. Macrae, Libba, Treloar don't have more than two years left in their legs, then it is Bont on his own.
That’s kinda the point though, we’ve shown we will pass on F/S picks in the past have we not? If we make Croft a priority it’s because we rate him & what he’ll bring to the list. We’re not missing out on rebuilding the list just to fit in Croft because he’s a F/S…

Twomey reckons north are going for pick 1. Might get them away from pick 4. Fingers crossed.
Makes a lot of sense for the Eagles to do the trade if the price is right, allowing them to grab Curtin along with another top end prospect. Could see another huge multi-team trade like we saw last year (Port & North & WCE & Giants)

Post was nothing about Croft. Was talking about future FS, like Cooney etc, unless they were top quality, and a need. Just saying we can't go every year with just a single Academy/FS pick, and then the next live pick is in the 50s. At some point we need to bring the depth of the team up, with stronger draft hands. Given there is some compromised drafts ahead for TAS. If that means making some tough calls, we have to make them for the sake of team balance.

If we blow the next few drafts, it could be 2030 before we can access a non compromised one. That is a long wait for many on here. The teams that will dominate around the time TAS comes in, will be the ones who get it right the next four years. Everyone else will take time to catch up again.

Personally if we are out of the running for pick 4, I would rather trade out 17 for one of Norths future picks. Protects it at least, and there is a strong chance that the future North pick will end up being a couple of places better than pick 17 this year anyway, which I anticipate will end up in the 20s. We can walk into next years MID loaded draft with 2 top 20 picks, but also gives us ammo to trade back into this year for a player we like ahead of the Croft bid if needed. To go along with pick 10-12.
Might be able to get Carlton's future first if they think Camporeale's boys will get early bids.
Adelaide also might be looking to trade out with a Welsh bid looking like coming early.

Eagles would get significant overs for pick 1 too

Wouldn't be too bad for us either. Even something straightforward like 1 & 20 for 2 & 3 means West Coast may consider Curtin & Watson (logic being McKercher is a potential flight risk and they got midfield pace in Hewett last year), which likely leaves McKercher for us. Pretty happy with either of Watson or McKercher though, so long as the trade up doesn't involve our future 1st

You can hope and pray that it doesn’t involve our F1 but you will be disappointed at the end of the day

It's a weird article though - it spends a long time talking about how Lobb was a bad trade for us because we are set for talls, and then suggests we swap Lobb for Grundy? Doesn't make sense

It is not particularly well-written, but that seems to be the standard these days.

There's actually loads of options for next year, it's looking like another bid fest unfortunately and could potentially be worse then this year. It's maybe why trading out our first next year has something to do with it.

These 5 look great so far.

Tyler Welsh (Adelaide) - possible top 5
Levi Ashcroft (Brisbane) - possible top 5
Lucas Camporeale (Carlton) - possible top 10/first round
Leo Lombard (Gold Coast) - possible top 10/first round
Joe Harrison (Sydney) - possible top 10/first round

Some other father/sons + academy prospects that look likely. Some of those could push into first round contention also.

Sam Marshall (Brisbane)
Charlie Hewitt (Brisbane)
Ben Camporeale (Carlton)
Caleb Nancarrow (Gold Coast)
Louie Montgomery (Port)
Mitchell Woods (Sydney)

This is without including the NGA's. Essendon have a couple really good ones.

Lombard is 2025 isn't he?

Just can’t imagine this list performing on the last day in September like both clubs did on Saturday unfortunately. We don’t seem with the modern game anymore

The fact that there is even speculation about Naughton is ****ing sickening.

Guaranteed there wouldn’t be this speculation had the club done their job and push deep into a finals campaign like we know our list can!
The comments from his manager didn’t sound overly encouraging post-2024, especially if we have another stinker.

Unfortunately I think it’s due to us being a smaller club and perceived to have too many talls. Thought we were passed being seen as a smaller club in trouble but apparently not.

Might come as news to his manager but a fair bit of our problems are conversion in front of goal of which his client is a key culprit.

If we are including our future first in the deal for pick 4 I’d hope we’d be grabbing a player in return.

I wouldn’t be too upset if it was something like:
Dogs get: hollands, picks 4, F2, 48, 57
Suns get: F1, picks 10, 17

Suns can then downgrade 10 and 17 for an influx of points so 48 and 57 are fairly irrelevant to them. Turning our two firsts into 2 picks each plus their 29, 35 and 43 gives them more picks than list spots anyway.

Is there a chance North don’t take Mckercher if they trade up to pick one and get Reid would they take another mid given who they already have?

Zero chance of this happening. Hollands on his own will net them a future 2nd.
