I'm glad we used the last week & a half to really improve our list for the next year.
Because it was so much better when we rushed to trade Brian Lake on literal day one of the trade period for a pick in the late 30's and upgrading pick 27 to 17

Stringer deal fallen over
Ironic that it has fallen over, given the GWS culture that has recently been on display, Jakey would have fit right in. Does that mean the possible, XOH trade be dead in the water now?
Any reason given?
Was it just tactical difficulties making the right trade / having the right assets? Or was dickheadedness a factor?

And if it was, did the deal fall over because they suddenly realised they don't need another dickhead? Or were they concerned that getting Stringer would in fact lift the moral standard of the GWS list by too much?

Whatever it was, it gives pause to reflect on the sorry trajectory of what should have been a brilliant Stringer career. One of the most talented players of his draft year. He was AA at age 21, played in an international series and has a premiership medallion for 2016, but his lonely trophy cabinet should be crammed full by now. It's not. Since crossing to Essendon he has won 3 or 4 club goalkicking awards (no great feat at such a struggling club) and was once nominated in the greater AA squad (2021, but missed the cut). That's all.

The patent waste of talent and draft assets shows that the idea of a "No Dickhead" policy is not just PC wackiness. Every club can accommodate a bit of dickheadery but there's a threshold of dickheadedness that should not be tolerated.

Stringer was more interested in off field "trophies".

maybe its the dodgy 720p feed off afl.com.au but Sam Power looks spent and stressed - hope he holds firm here.

Our moral obligation to Smith as a person and his mental health is the fact that we're allowing him to delist himself in accordance with AFL rules should he not want to take up a new contract with the Dogs.

Where he goes from there is not our concern.

Of course we'd like to improve our own draft hand here, but Bailey Smith's comfort is none of our concerns when our contractual obligation to him is complete.
