maybe its the dodgy 720p feed off afl.com.au but Sam Power looks spent and stressed - hope he holds firm here.
He looked spent when we he swung three deals in the last minute to basically got Treloar and Jamarra for virtually no outlay of meaningful picks other than the single draft pick in the teens we had

I have no doubt Smith has genuine mental health issues, and has needed some moments to deal with them. But I also feel players and media over play it, to use it as a card to justify any poor behavior by players, or to try guilt clubs into trading away a player they rate, for peanuts. Because not like clubs have to balance looking after their own interests as well.

We didn't nominate for him to be traded, Smith did. And when you nominate a team that has poor draft picks, then you have to accept late deals and anxiety over the deals going through late, are all a part of the process. Smith nominated knowing there is a risk it may fail. Geelong are the ones who courted him 18 months ago, and promised to get him in, yet at the same time are the ones who are being standoffish, wanting to offer a pissy second round pick (which is what 17 will end up as).

But nah, the media just pile on us all f**king fortnight, like we are the bad guys. We literally bent over for him, let him do things his way, all this time. And stuck by him through his issues. And all we got was a back turned to us.

There is absolutely no suggestion that our support of Smith's mental health has been inadequate, or that we've been uncertain in giving him support - we have and continue to have a contract offer on the table for him should he want to keep playing for the Western Bulldogs, with the ongoing support he knows for certain has and therefore will be provided to him.

Other than that, mental health concerns doesn't override AFL rules. If no trade gets done he has to be redrafted. He is meant to accept that as part of the AFL rules.

Don't worry about Bailey Smith's mental health issue. Fake narrative from his entourage. Bloke took 1000 takes only to post the one selfie at the gym 4 hours ago. He can snap a knee on the way out the little turd.

Hope Sammy is thinking hard to trade into the first round this year in the next hr or so.

burn the “walk to the draft” option to the ground.
**** the cats and **** smith. We have had not much impact with him out all year and I see no reason to help him or Connor’s or that s**tstain of a club to get him there cheaply. Pick 20 will be an ok player but it’s like being told to sell a $1mill house to a buyer for $500k with the buyers agent running around in the background threatening all other purchasers from approaching. They can all get ****ed unless they pay.

Two hours to go, and not even a single whisper about any of our 5 potential deals. Does the AFL still run that stupid trade show, where they drip feed everything over the final hour, and pretend it was all done at the last minute?
all this trade week we've heard absolutely zero about the apparent negotations between Geelong and the Bulldogs. We just know Geelong is sticking to pick 17 and the Dogs want "something more". All the media hyping this as going to the ultimate minute, or maybe the draft...

And Smith's manager hasn't had shed a single tear to the media about how unfair everything is?

Has all the hallmarks of a deal that is already agreed and is being dragged out for the spectacle.

I'm glad we used the last week & a half to really improve our list for the next year.
Can you at least defer this post until 7.30pm tonight? There's clearly things to happen between now and then. It makes little difference when a trade occurs within the trade period, yet people act as though it's an important factor. The end result is generally the same if it's done day 1 or the last minute.

Yep we will get 17 a little something.
Neither party will want him to walk.

This is an extremely harmful and stigmatising misconception of mental health issues that costs lives. Outwardly appearing 'fine' or 'happy' to random outsiders is not at all a reliable indicator of somebody's internal mental state or struggles.

But everyone turned a blind eye with Tom Boyd when he had a brawl with Cordy and hounded him into retirement.... the narrative never suits the Dogs does it?

There is nothing happening that will be improving our list in a meaningful way though, I think that’s the point.

Our business is more dealing with departures than arrivals.

So unless we pull something completely out of the blue like getting Barrass, we’ve been as timid as English in the ruck. As we usually are when other clubs back themselves to attack…

The assumption by the media that the Dogs as a club wouldn't be supporting Smith's mental health or doing right by him in that context is what irks me though

The media's weaponising of mental health to criticise our club is just as morally bankrupt as two sides of the same coin as people who triviliase mental ill-health, too.

Crazy that none of these deals are getting done, by any teams

Some of them seemed like the easiest deals that would go through in the first couple of days. Think all clubs are just in this world of trying to draw everything possible out of each deal rather than just getting it done
