AFLW Trade, Draft and list changes 2024

I think its time to ditch the tier status in AFLW, if you want it to become competitive as someone mentioned it earlier in this thread. Time to have a proper salary cap that allows everyone an even chance with recruiting & if you are down the bottom of the ladder should allow to have some extra salary cap room to target players required to strengthen your list over the coming years.
Won't happen while the AFL fund it still - they still cover the wage system don't they?

We honestly can’t lose Yassir for nothing we’ll be a laughing stock
I'd have traded her out as a compromise if it meant Kate Sheahan was offloaded to a salt mine! Half a step back to take a full step forward.

Wow, now Yassir still doesn’t want to stay if Beveridge is to be believed.

Culture seems to be off. It’s not like Yassir’s interstate and wanting to return to her home town or anything. In fact, she seems to prefer trying to go anywhere else but us right now.

We’re likely to end up losing two solid players. Sucks and questions need to be asked.
On Yassir

She comes from Pascoe Vale and went back to coach the girls team this year. Was a bit of a disaster for the women’s program at that club…

Yassir threatening to go to the draft sounds like tough talk after negotiations with EFC fell threw. Mad Essendon fan gets drafted to Perth, Adelaide maybe on Tier 4 wage. Yeah nah... she'll stay. Try next to get to Essendon next year? Tier 4 2025 $67,000.

We've lost Monahan ~ played in flags in Brizzy, Cordner ~ captained Carlton? and a ruck who played well at the Dogs.

Gain Luke, Greiser, McKinnon from other clubs.

Sounds to me way we’ve managed the tpp , she has shot thru , amateur hour . With so many ordinary players , let’s be honest , should have been flipping easy to make space to keep best young players , shaking my head
And putting aside not having the money to pay her (which is ridiculous) to then not be able to extract anything for her is even more of an indictment on the way the program is being handled

I follow pretty well the team , conti and millzy only ones that have spoken ,,,period

It will take some time to process I reckon, after all, as mush as team unity is a thing, they'll know in their heart of hearts, this probably derails next season. One player not a Club maketh, however when we could not even beat WC without her, it was somewhat telling.

Hopefully we'll have a couple on Montana's coming in that can bridge the gap a little.

Are we gonna take 5 players , with millzy out maybe
Not unless we delist 2 x more players, we have 3 list spots available if Milzy an out, and 3 decent draft picks. We've missed the deadline to bring in an Irish Gaelic footballer or another code player through rookie signing. We now have a 24 hour window ending tomorrow, to pick up any players that are delisted by other clubs.

Maybe we should look at a player from a successful club like a Kate Lutkins from Brisbane Lions who retired to bring in to play or coach for a season or two while we build through the draft.

Who should we delist, Reid? Wicksteed? Jones?, Our list build really has been so off key compared to the top clubs.

Questions need to be asked.
Fact is we’ve had three players make AA team Conti,Brennan,Sheerin
Sheerin has made at least the ext squad very year she’s played.
We’ve had one player nominated as a Rising star in 6 seasons. That’s Yassir and that’s shithouse.
We lose both Sheerin and Yassir.
I think she will walk.

I think Sheerin is “a winner” who is ruthless and wants to achieve her best/a flag things like that and as much as I’m disappointed I can get it.
Yassir if the club can’t keep her that is an indictment on the F/D, Coach and Captain in my view.
They haven’t sold the dream and obviously players don’t believe, we’re going backwards.
Sheerin mentality and what she projects is exactly what we need, not cross code players who have been in a high preformance enviroment or a Captain who is a polished media preformer.

This line of “we are people before we are players” that Brennan has trotted out last couple of seasons or the way Gabby’s interview at the end of the Port final loss, saying that the loss “like Ferg said this isn’t the end of our journey it’s the start of it” is just fluff and bullsh.t.

I think Yassir is at top 8 player, fact is she is a footballer and goal scorer, others might disagree but she does t think our program is more attractive than what she imagines things will be like at Essendon.
Also, Paige Scott gets droped for the Rnd 9 game against us doesn’t play in the last three games but is prepared to go back to Essendon for a new contract rather than come to us.

Something needs to change.

Richmond give away their best or close to it player for equivalent to nothing?

"Chosen". Haha. As if the club has 100% control over these things.

Earlier poster hit the nail right on the head when they said there are a lot more things going on in AFLW that effect list management than anyone realises.

Tamara Luke retired after a mere 6 months at the club and a stack of players posted tributes on SM. Same with the delisting of Woods, Peck and Eastman and with the trading of Brown. Very little re Eilish. Hmmm.

As for giving away a 34 year old for nothing, we received a first rounder which is about right given her form, just unfortunate it was the premiers who have the last pick of the round. Should have played harder you think? How about we get nothing at all when she just nominates for the draft like Yassir has threatened to do. Sure I'll fight but I'll take pick 18 thanks. Players move in AFLW a lot easier and a lot cheaper than AFL.

Imagine we had a Sheahan type operator instead of Blair lmao
What you mean a Mole?

Snoop Dogg Yes GIF

Nice to see a balanced approach to what has happened. I think we are all stunned with Sheerin going, she was certainly my favourite player and will be a huge loss. However Fox are reporting that she wanted to go to North because she is very good friends with their recently appointed head of football. This probably explains why she knocked back strong offers from Sydney and GWS. Surely North couldn’t afford to pay her more than those clubs so I don’t think money was the motivation. Yassir also a big shock and it would be disastrous to lose her for nothing. She always seemed happy at the Tigers but maybe strong interest from the club she barracked for as a kid was just too hard to resist. Let’s be honest, wouldn’t we all love to play for the Tigers if we had the chance ??
Not so sure about all that , for mine with sheerins CV 3 x r up, 2 x AA she demanded to be paid accordingly or I’m out
She’s out !
Millzy likely won’t end up at ess , there’s 18 teams in the comp
Take your pic

Bombers have pick 8,11,28
If they use either of their first two picks for Yassir I’ll be pissed.
Really pissed

20p most contested in W is gold ,,, and in our side like diamonds , irreplaceable unless we draft like we never have before

Richmond Football Club will not offer Courtney Jones a contract for the 2025 AFLW season.

Jones, 24, played 11 games for Richmond over two seasons, following 18 appearances across her career at Carlton and the Gold Coast.

Richmond Head of Women's Football, Kate Sheahan thanked Jones for her time and efforts while at the Club.

"These decisions are never easy. We thank Courtney for her commitment during her time at Tigerland and wish her all the best for the future."
