I understand that but how are we trading in those types of players without destroying our backline or forward line? There are only a handful of those types of players in the league and everyone is expecting we're going to be able to trade one in for a first rounder. Great teams are built on drafting groups of players, not trading for one specific player (unless its a gun like danger) look at where trading has got richmond and North, to scared of bottoming out so they are forever mid table. If our midfield is a bad as it looks then 1-2 players aren't going to magically change it in the space of a year (that's assuming we can actually get them in). Geelong already had a decent midfield before danger came alongWe are talking really good midfielders that can adapt on instict. I don't subscribe to the game plan complexity myth. It's football not military offensive strategic planning
I've mentioned it before, but Dusty isn't likely to move to Adelaide and he's definitely not moving to WA for one simple reason, his father.
For those who missed it, his dad got deported to New Zealand and Dusty often flies over and visits him mid-week.
If he moved to Adelaide he would get less chances to do this, if he moved to Perth his chances of doing this are virtually nil.
If Dusty moved it will be to another Melbourne club or maybe Sydney or Brisbane, something that is within reasonable flying time to NZ.
Could someone tell me the keys date for trade period this year, like trade week, draft night etc. Might be worth adding to the first post in that other thread?
I couldn't find on afl.com
not really don't need more depth types clogging our list.Anyone keen on Brandon Ah Chee? I've seen him only a couple times this year but he's tracking pretty well.

He would be more suited forward if he didn't shit his pants shooting for goals and for me, he is not accountable enough on picking up his man when playing forward.I think Yeo is far better suited forward than midfield.
Lobb could play FF freeing up Jk to play CHF where he would basically be a big roaming midfielder/forward
he has shown nothing in the last year or so and struggled to break into a poor side. if we had a decent midfield we could have taken a punt but we are not in that position. I don't see him breaking into our b22 either. I have more confidence in kids like duggan, nelson and parto coming on in the next 18 months. I mock hutchings at time and did state ah chee is upgrade on him but hutchings ability to tag has made him an asset now.So you don't think he could develop into a best 22 midfielder?
Anyone think this Hogan thing has to be some sort of smokescreen? Are we trying to downplay our desire for Lobb?
Maybe that doesn't make sense but it's just odd that the WCE Facebook page is now getting around it with the 'is it time to bring him home'? I feel like if we were actually into him it's in our nature to be a bit more discreet.
That logic doesn't really hold up because in that instance why would you ever use a non top ten draft pick when you could continuously trade them in for serviceable players? I think if you have a first round pick, as a recruiter you should be backing yourself to pick a player likely to be a best 22 player for a long period of time.
Trading has been a huge part of the success at Hawthorn.
And hindsight tells us we chose a good time not to do what you are suggesting. Because any one we would have reasonably picked up would have been worse than red dog, and showing not great potential.

The reason there is no response is because he doesn't "fill" any of our needs.Any thoughts on Hartlet??
I read a few weeks ago he may be looking for a new home.
I mentioned it a few pages back but no mention on him since.
If he is gettable at a reasonable price I think he could fill a role quite well, injuries aside as they are just part and parcel of the game.
As has drafting.
is a midfielder? yes.The reason there is no response is because he doesn't feel any of our needs.
Goes missing regularly and isn't even a midfielder, generally plays loose of hbf.
I'd like us to put a deal like that together for a gun midfielder ..Sloane anyone or suggestions .

What does he do best? Do Coleman medals win finals??Dont think so matey, you need to think outside the box.Hes a good long kick for goals, great chaser and tackler, left and right foot, good decision maker, only weakness? probably his pack marking.Does that sound like a pure Full Forward? If you pigeon-hole people you take away a lot of flexability. Why do you think he gets shut down so much in finals? You dont need the Fevolas of this world to win finals.Or we could allow the coleman medalist to do what he does best and not pollute what works with the arichmond method
