Anyone think this Hogan thing has to be some sort of smokescreen? Are we trying to downplay our desire for Lobb?

Maybe that doesn't make sense but it's just odd that the WCE Facebook page is now getting around it with the 'is it time to bring him home'? I feel like if we were actually into him it's in our nature to be a bit more discreet.

Yep thought the exact thing and it is also on their WCE page on the AFL website.

Pretty surprised that our social media are mentioning Hogan.

It's a very strange move, we must be confident of landing him to be stirring the pot on a contracted player like that.

What? When you are weighing up to keep a draft pick or target a mature player you expect that the mature player is going to have more of an impact early but for a shorter period of time, whereas you would expect the draft pick to make an impact a bit later down the track but for a longer period of time. As of now Redden has barely shown more then what a first round draft pick would have shown. At the end of the day when you recruit a first round draft pick you don't necessarily expect them to be in your best 22 in their first year and redden in his first year wasn't in the best 22, only difference is he is 7 years older.

Like I said, I honestly believe Redden is a very good player and he will be much better next year. However, thus far, hindsight indicates that trading away our first round pick for middle aged player who ended the year clearly out of the best 22 has not been a good outcome. Again I'm expecting Redden to be worth the pick but so far he hasn't been.

I think the club made the right call trading last years pick for Redden. Given who was picked at our pick and later, including accounting for the less years of service that we are going to receive. I may have jumped in and not fully understood the convo, I thought the discussion was about the eagles making a blue by trading their 1st for Redden.

What does he do best? Do Coleman medals win finals??Dont think so matey, you need to think outside the box.Hes a good long kick for goals, great chaser and tackler, left and right foot, good decision maker, only weakness? probably his pack marking.Does that sound like a pure Full Forward? If you pigeon-hole people you take away a lot of flexability. Why do you think he gets shut down so much in finals? You dont need the Fevolas of this world to win finals.

You play people where they are proven to be most effective. When you win the coleman medal back to back it suggests that you are perhaps best at kicking goals.

How about we save on the wall paper and draft or trade for midfield reinforcements. When that fails we can turn them into flankers who kick it to Josh who kicks the goal.

Trading has been a huge part of the success at Hawthorn.
Only for topping up though. They had an elite midfield built from the draft before they made their trades. We don't have that type of midfield yet (it may still happen with this group of players) so we don't have the luxury of trading in a Lake or a Hale. That's where richmond and North went wrong. Believing all they needed were some top up trades for the final step. There's only two options. Believe in the current midfield and upgrade the weakest links and get preseasons into the others or start from scratch in the midfield, building it around sheed, shuey, gaff and Duggan

Would we be able to fit Hogan in our salary cap? He would command a fair bit
Ellis and Mginnity would have had semi okay salaries, maybe Lecras will be told to retire so we can get Hogan over line.. and Emac is apparently on close to 600,000

Youve been quoting the Hawks model; when Buddy and Roughhead were both there, they both rotated through FF and the guts.I agree with your sentiments on the midfield, i think all of us are as one on that.

Anyone keen on Brandon Ah Chee? I've seen him only a couple times this year but he seems to be tracking pretty well.
He may never take the next step but I believe port have salary cap issues so we may be able to get him cheap if he is under contract.
Has huge potential and would add great depth and a big body to our midfield

Your posts lend me to think you don't know a lot about football
What's telling, is that clearly you have never played football.

That is the line ^ You need to work on these things or people will get confused.

I'd be happy to wait til next year if we were to try to get Hogan if he'll be cheaper. Don't think we really need him right now and I don't really want to lose our 1st pick again, esp in a better draft.
I didn't want Ballsantyne before, but I'd want to avoid him even more since saying that the reason we wants to move is because he wants to win a flag at another team. Really don't want someone simply chasing his final shot at a flag at his age, unless it was a player in much better form. With him being contracted he'll also cost more than he's worth.

"The message is clear. Port Adelaide will not tolerate mediocrity — and there will be change at Alberton, as to be highlighted in next month’s trade period when the Power will put a 13-player “trade bait” list before its 17 AFL rivals."

Not sure if that's in the doco or rumoured but it's in the article.
cam o'sea at the right price could be a decent depth. 193cm and 91kgs. we could use him as a third tall in an emergency if emac leaves.

Hogan, Lobb and Swallow are going to nominate us as their club of choice any minute now..
