Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

We have picks 30,40,49 and 66 which will come into the 50’s when clubs start passing

First point of call should be Hawthorn. They have 46,52,53 and one spot left for F/S Calsher Dear and don’t need 46 to match so offer them our F4 to see if they bite

Our main aim though should be to get another pick in the 30 to 40 range giving us 3 picks overall

That would guarantee us 3 of Simpson, Freijah, Schoenmaker, M Edwards, Hastie, Roberts, Jiath, Hall, Lual, Weatherill, Sanchez, Delean, Murphy, Zakostelsky, Lloyd, A Reid, Morris, Stevens or whoever you want to add. Posters will have their own opinions on who to prioritise but there’s 18 names there

So how to get the extra pick

Trading 30 and 49 to Geelong for 32 and 36 is the most obvious but that would require Geelong to really want to get ahead of us and Brisbane

I doubt Brisbane are going to offer 42 to move one spot from 31 to 30

St Kilda (33) don’t have another pick this year or next to trade up but might do our F3 and say 49 for 33. Maybe

Carlton (34) are in a similar boat to St Kilda and are more likely to be happy with our R3 for points reasons

Both those clubs would need to be happy about moving back in this years draft

Richmond 35 and 43 is risking moving back too far. Again our F3 and 49 maybe

Collingwood (37) for our F3 and 49 I like particularly because it gets us ahead of Fremantle at 38

I like the idea of keeping 30 and taking our first choice then trying a deal with Carlton or Collingwood using our F3

Using 3 picks before 40 gives us a late pick to use on someone like Fonti, De La Rue, Nyko, Philactides, Visentini or any sliders from the initial list I mentioned

Still scope for a decent draft

I’m very happy with who’s still on the board

It feels like we’ll probably go Roberts tomorrow with our first pick, which is fine as he is a good HBF and a fairly safe pick, but there are others I rate more personally.

I think it’s the perfect opportunity to split for 2 pick’s in the 30’s if possible.

The only guy I 110% want secured is Cooper Simpson, if we can get him via splitting we should do it, if we think we have to take him straight up, then just do that.

Also… how bloody bad was GWS tonight? What on earth was their decision making?

They rejected our future 1st for 7 to accept that god awful Adelaide offer to then reach on Gothard who would’ve been there at their second pick… and then traded the 2nd rounder they got in that deal to move up a single spot to take Leake who they should’ve just taken with their first pick…

Truly a bizarre night for them, if they had more fans, they’d be getting reamed right now.

FWIW, I’d really like Simpson as our main target

Then probably ZZ top

After that I’m really not sure but from the champs games I saw I liked the look of Lual

They just got 4x R1 players by trading down from pick 4 plus they’ve added two additional R1 picks next year

Doubt they give a *
Please tell me they didn't use pick only to get those 4 academy players, plus a F1.

Surely they've used their own R2, R3, R4 to match aswell.

Still a rort though

I am all in on Simpson, I think he’s a perfect complimentary piece to our midfield options.

I think one of ZZ, Murphy or Schoenmaker will be there at our 3rd pick.

I like Lual too, I like Roberts as well but if we want a run and gun HBF I’d probably take Jiath, more raw but also more to work with and has much better size.

Agreed.

The club should be trying to gain a pick in order to manufacture an additional selection before 40.

Hawthorn's pick 46 should be available. They may return the favour for our generosity in the Brockman trade.

Definitely needs to be asked in regard to F4.

Cooper Simpson & ZZ please. ZZ is better than Curtin.

Having a talent academy in WA is a pointless exercise when you cannot bid inside top 40. Everyone knows if there are decent WA players they will go inside the 1st round.

We should of traded some older players to get 2nd rounders. We could of packaged them up late to get back into 1st round today. I'd rather give a couple older blokes past it for 2nd rounders to get a chance at Collard & Moir.

Every chance we can climb the ladder a little next year. We won't get pick 1. I think pick 3 to 6.
WA's 1st player on the board around 14. Next year's draft is even more compromised with Academy & Father Son's.

Yeo injured again now, Gaff will retire, Waterman will go. I'm thinking we may trade for a Mid next year.

As far as I can make out they went into trade period with their R1 pick, R2 picks from GWS and Adelaide, R3 picks from Adelaide and Collingwood in addition to their own and a single R4 from St Kilda

Their trades are a bit of a mess because there was so many. But..

• In a trade of current year picks with the Bulldogs they gave up an F3 for the Bulldogs F1
• They traded current year picks with Melbourne
• Traded current year picks with Adelaide along with Chris Burgess
• Received Norths end of R1 2024 priority pick for pick 18
• Hollands was given away with an F4 in return for an F3 tied to Essendon
• They received a F2 tied to Brisbane for Chol
• There was three separate trades tonight swapping around current year picks

In summary-

Out : Hollands, Chol, Burgess, 4,28,34,42,47,56,68,F3,F4

In : Pick 3 (Walter), Pick 9 (Read), Pick 14 (Rogers) and Pick 26 (Graham), F1(WB), F1(20),F2(BL), F3(ESS)

So 3 players that went cheap. Their own R1 pick (4), 2x R2 picks, 3x R3 picks and a R4

Got all 4 academy players inside the first 26 picks

Have 2 additional F1 picks plus an extra F2

They still have picks 51,54,56,61,69 in this draft that they don’t need and maybe able to scrounge a F3/F4 or two in a trade

So yeah they did use up more than just pick 4 but they killed the pig and are as well placed as anyone in next years draft

I think we should double dip with KPPs, and potentially trade up from pick 40 if necessary.

Archer Reid and either Murphy/ZZ would be a great complement to JTR as high potential prospects at either end.

Better we take them earlier in the rebuild so that they have time to develop and fill out - and we’ve kept out powder dry in what will likely be a midfielder’s draft next year. I’d also like to see how Chesser, Hough, Burgiel and Culley develop for another year to work out what we need in terms of mids/flankers.

Pretend this post is a long, eloquent complaint about how ridiculous it is that the year we finished last, after finishing second last the year before, without trading out any of our picks for this year and having another club's pick, that our second selection is pick 30. That's basically an entire extra round tacked on to the end of the first round purely by the AFL's ridiculous system.

The challenge for them is they just don't value and utilise picks like a normal club. Look at the wasted pick with Hollands.
At least utilising picks on academy prospects might not strengthen the Victorian clubs with top 10 picks going back for a packet of chips

Pick 30 is a bit of a joke. GC was perhaps an aberation this year - it certainly didn't help.
