Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Keys you may like to sticky this post & move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread if you have one.

I think (and fairly) people would be annoyed in the short term. The choice seems obvious, take the best player available.

Would that feeling disappear when we win a flag in 2027 with those 3 and North fold in 2029 with Reid on their list?

These things can only ever be judged on hindsight imo.

Dozens were ranging from annoyed to upset to 'fold the club' when we downgraded our pick 2 but they are all quiet now after seeing how Ginbey and Hewitt have turned out so far. They will be up in arms again if they fail to become good players.

What does the fact that we are in ongoing constant conversations about splitting our pick tell you? It tells you that we want to split our pick. Doesn't guarantee that we will. The offers that come might be so putrid that we end up just having to say No and keep the pick. But the fact alone that we are spending a lot of time and energy negotiating with clubs to split the pick makes it fairly clear that we want to and intend to split that pick if we can and there is an 80% plus chance that we will.

A lot of the more low IQ posters on here who here who for months have laughed at and mocked anybody who suggested that the club's preference and intention was likely to be and appeared to be that they wanted to split the pick are now waking up and smelling the coffee and realising they were wrong. There is a strong overlap between this group and the Adam Simpson fanboi group and the blame - everything - on - Covid & injuries group of posters who thought we would be top 8 this year.

TBF he is going to be standing alongside Kelly, sometimes Yeo, and a fast-developing Ginbey.
Reid has a 3 year contract if we take him. We need to show he's part of an improving team that's going to go places by that third year.

Kelly will be 32 and past his prime, Yeo will be gone. Doesn't help much imo.

Except it appears majority of those constant conversations are one way conversations. It seems we've given a polite no and teams are going away trying to build more draft capital to come back and try again.

If someone picks up the phone to call you, you answer it. Doesn't mean you engage or confirm your willingness to participate in the split.

So Norf and Dees going flat out to get higher in the draft.

Question: Is it a general move or are they posturing for Pick 1.

Let us remember

WE HAVE 40 DAYS TO GO.

Nobody sells early for an auction without paying the premium.

So what would Norf offer?

We want 2 and 3 (and F1 according to Schoey)

This morning they offered up crap not worth writing up

I see them wanting to sell hope by having 1 and 2. I am expecting an offer of 3, 15 and 18. I still say no. If they add a F1 and we give back a F2, it is getting there. They would still have 1 2 17 and 57 this year

So what would Dees offer?

They have 6, 11 and a F1 which would not be enough. I am hearing that the Crows would give up 10 for Petty. OK. Would they offer 6, 10, 11 and F1. We might again need to give back a F2 It is getting there.

Patience is a virtue.

WE HAVE

Teams wouldn’t be bettering their draft hand with the goal of getting Reid of us if we didn’t signal to them we would trade pick 1 to be fair.

We've said it'll take a 'special offer'. We haven't set a goal post. I suppose not being categoric that we won't trade the pick leaves the door ajar for a monster offer.

I suppose it's a win win for them. Either they are successful in getting us to part with Pick 1, or they take a strong hand to the draft.

Perhaps I'm delusional but it makes sense.

Since we rejected their priority picks. They now are forced to trade their priority picks in order to retain.

Hence their plan was to offload it to us that failed. Now they trade forward to this draft.

Those moves norf made isn't anything special. It's just a sideways shuffle to this draft

Maybe - or we've said we want the picks in the top 20 of this draft, and they've gone and acquired them. I'm scared.

I really just feel we need quality, not quantity. We have good young talent on the list, they just need games into them. Depth is important, of course, but this rebuild is going to take a couple years.

Pick 18 and pick 22 isn't that much of a leap. It's a side ways trade

I don't think it's us signalling at all. Not a single source actually connected to the club has said they want to trade it. They have all been the diplomatic response of 'plan to use it, plan to use it for Reid, but if a godfather offer comes we'd be remiss not to look at it', which is the expected response because if North lose the plot somehow and offer 2, 3, F1 and LDU we'd be silly not to take it.

It's entirely driven (imo) by the media who see that the undisputed number 1 pick is Victorian, the club holding the number 1 pick is Western Australian, and filling in the blanks. The exact same narrative would occur if it was Fremantle or Port holding pick 1.
