In the next 3 or 4 years, if the Tiges were going to have a crack at another big tuna, or couple of highly rated players, who do you guys reckon we need/could do with?

I'm struggling to really think of anyone. Pretty happy with the club and our youth.

Get me Taranto.

Yeah it’s for real. How much of an impact can Rowell make? As good as Walsh was this year, he was still miles off Treloar’s output.

If Collingwood were making a play for Lynch, where did all that cash go? Beams? I reckon they miraculously make a play for Cameron next year.

It’s not a huge downgrade with all the other midfielders they have. They’ve over spent on one area of the list, Treloar for a gun kid means a small drop in output but a huge drop in salaries.

People here like to cross reference us with American sports like NFL but they don’t realise the true benefit of high draft picks is to get in elite talent for low wages. AFL is different as we draft literally children so it’s not such a recognised aspect of lost management but may be in the future.

Agree with regards to their midfield. That’s what makes the Beams panic signing all the more hilarious. If they never brought in Beams they wouldn’t be trying to shift Treloar up north.

I don’t rate Treloar anymore, especially after his double hammy tear, but I don’t think sending a guy like him packing would go down too well with their playing group. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes at that sh*thole, but on the surface he seems like one of their more prominent players. He also has a strong media presence so I couldn’t imagine it would go down too well with the fans either. They also sold the farm to get him, so it’s almost like conceding it was a bad move from a list management perspective.

This years draft ain’t great. There’s a few prospects I like but our draft picks will be a stretch to get any.

Hoping Josh Worrell will be around at our pick.

There has been no statement to say they made a materially anomalous adjustment. Ellis's Contract simply fell just outside the top 15% of all AFL 25 year olds on the Contract Compensation table at this particular time. He would have to be in the Top 3 contract earners I'm guessing for every Club to be in that top 15%. 18 Clubs x 3 players = 54 players. I'd love it if someone would narrow it down better than me, but I'm guessing the cut off is probably at player no 45-50. There would be at least five players 25 years and over at Richmond on more than Ellis's new contract.

If Ellis were at say Carlton, he would have got them pick 23 on the same table.
Sure but as if they would say they adjusted it. They couldn't even admit they ****ed up the goal checking. Imo to say the contract increase have gone up so much within a year I just don't believe it.

Leppitsch is staying I hope.
A genius coach who helped to devise the strategy for Edwards to play part of the time in defence, earlier in the year.
Who is the second assistant, apart from Blake, who you are referring to as departing?

How are the Pies keeping that list together without breaching the salary cap???

Pendles, Grundy, Degoey, Sidebottom, Beams, Treloar, Adams and Elliot - $700k+
Howe, Moore, Reid and Mayne - $600k+
Crisp, Phillips, Maynard, Thomas & Langdon, WHE, Cox, Roughead, Greenwood, Varcoe, Mihocek Aish, and Scharenberg - $400/500k

Stephenson, Brown, Wills and Daicos - $300k+ need to payed in the future

Wells retiring will free up some space but theres no way they could afford another star player

Not necessarily. For example you could be 32 years old and get no bonus points, and there could be a bunch of 25 year olds get ten bonus points each and jump above you just on the Table of Compensation. Probably drawing a long bow but it's not impossible. Not enough people know enough about it it seems. Clearly the AFL and Clubs have people across it, but I bet not all Club people are because others are paid to know.

I'd be happy to learn more from someone at Club or AFL land. All I've got is from Jake Niall and slowly worked through each issue as listed. Timing is everything important when applying for compensation.
Ha yes a verrrrrryyyyy long bow!!

Anyone a little Alarmed to the fact we're about to two highly rated coaching assistants or is it just me?
One or two fresh assistant coaches every few years is a good thing, they would help keep Dimma and the players fresh as the game evolves and the comp tries to catch and emulate us.

Treloar is a shocking user of the footy. On tv it hides just how bad but watching it live it’s hilarious. He can have heaps of options upfield and he’ll turn back inside for a cheap handball, kicking is absolutely his last resort.

On tv you only see him bust out into space and get an effective disposal to a player who the decides to hack it on the boot. What you miss is the options he burns as he knows he can’t make the kick and that the dinky handball just shifted all responsibility.

I'd like to be like that, but I can't. I can see how it is done (probably) and how hard it is. When someone tells me how many 25 year old plus player we have in the League at Oct 31 (and even that figure changes with retirements and delistings), then we can start allocating players into those bands perhaps. It will surprise how few can fit I'd tip. It's becuase we have such a vested interest that it seems so unfair.

That's where the AFL could have used their dicretionary powers. They didn't. Meteoric Rise wrote a good post on the philosphy differentials of each band in the Compensation Guidlines. Search for it, it might help you hate it even more ;) 🤣
How do you know they didn't? Just because they didn't say anything?

Without going thru again and doing a count id say there are at least 30 to 50 24 yr olds who will flow into the 25 plus age range next yr.if its closer to 50 it will significantly increase next yr.

I looked at adelaide the only team i could be bothered to do it with and first alphabetically, they had 7 blokes who will turn 25 after 31/10. if they are any indicator of the situation then it will significantly rise.
