dont reckon we should take in anyone from other clubs any more. only reason it worked for all the fold coast players is because they have 0 culcha up there whereas pies/crows/carlspoon spuds etc have all had bad culcha bred into them for a decade

OK, point me to where the length of the contract matters in the compensation consideration then. I've read it only has to be a contract beyond 2 years (could it be three then?). Irrespective, it's only about qualifying, not about placement on the Table of Compensation. The table is determined by a yearly average.
COMPENSATION
A club that has a net loss of players transferring to/from other clubs as free agents in one transfer period is entitled to compensation via National Draft picks allocated by the AFL.
The compensation formula produces a points rating for players based on:
1. The new contract of the free agent;
2. The age of the free agent.

Draft picks are allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period.
Draft picks will be allocated to one of five places:
Here is an excert, it doesn't mention anything about 2 years, just the new contract which should mean all its years.

Pretty sure anderson was interviewed and was asked about this and he said his dad never pressured him and was always a tiger
He said he was a Richmond supporter on trade radio the other day. “That’s who dad followed when he was a kid.”

Yep you guys a right.

That's shocking parenting IMO.

How on earth he isn't a Hawks supporter is outrageous.

Without going thru again and doing a count id say there are at least 30 to 50 24 yr olds who will flow into the 25 plus age range next yr.if its closer to 50 it will significantly increase next yr.

I looked at adelaide the only team i could be bothered to do it with and first alphabetically, they had 7 blokes who will turn 25 after 31/10. if they are any indicator of the situation then it will significantly rise.
Sure but that doesn't mean that the price will automatically go up hugely though. It could actually deflate that level on average, plus its not just how many in any given year, its is multiplied by 5 years which means most in this bracket don't qualify. Then there is delistings which would also effect things, so imo its not clear cut at all.

I was hoping we would recruit a defender to develop for the future.
Rance would retire in a couple of years.
We need a third defender to eventually support Grimes and Vlaustin.
Further ahead in the mid-term, say 5 years, looking to augment our midfielder stocks, Walsh would be a great acquisition.

That’s our main need imo. There’s 2 in the draft gotta pray one of them get to our pick because it’s slim pickings after them.

Yes. 2018 was a major year in terms of recruiting Lynch.
2019 will be quieter to be sure.
In terms of future retirements, it will be interesting to see how they play out.
Houli, Edwards and Riewoldt are 31 this year.
Rance is 30.

I hope they can stagger the retirements so that they don't happen simultaneously.
It would be hard to lose two high quality players through retirement in the one year.
Houli could retire at the end of next year, Shane the following year, Jack in 2022, Alex the next year, something like that.

So if trelololll lol lol, is off to the sun's for pick 1 ( Rowell)
Are the pies doing a sneaky,, thinking they will then in
2 years time grab Anderson, as some recruiting experts
Have stated,,, that if Rowell and Anderson not drafted together this year
They will find each other again a few years later they are this close apparently

When Carlton and Adelaide agreed to swap first rounders at last years draft For this years draft
Did Adelaide think they were naturally going to get number 1 in the draft ( I think they did)
So they could use this pick in a straight swap for Grundy
Now unfortunately that pick is number 4 not enough for Grundy, pies were after pick 1 already eyeing off Rowell
So the only way they can get Rowell now is to trade trelololll,,,,,
Mmmmmmmm interesting

Don’t reckon I’d use an early pick on a defender. A lot of late picks, rookies and failed forwards end up becoming gun defenders

Agree with regards to their midfield. That’s what makes the Beams panic signing all the more hilarious. If they never brought in Beams they wouldn’t be trying to shift Treloar up north.

I don’t rate Treloar anymore, especially after his double hammy tear, but I don’t think sending a guy like him packing would go down too well with their playing group. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes at that sh*thole, but on the surface he seems like one of their more prominent players. He also has a strong media presence so I couldn’t imagine it would go down too well with the fans either. They also sold the farm to get him, so it’s almost like conceding it was a bad move from a list management perspective.
remember when pies gave 2 firsts for Beams
