Am I the only one that doesn't wanna just discard the last of our premiership heroes? Why can't we show them respect for wanting to stick with the club through good and bad instead of just offloading them. I don't understand how we keep the same coach when clearly he doesn't have the patience and temperament do deal with each and every player the same. I got one would like to see sidey pendles and Reid finish up with us and nowhere else, really am getting sick of this club and they way people just wanna throw away players that have turned down millions to be elsewhere.

I know but with Bolton and Beveridge they came from Hawks and was widely touted to be good coaches but when I look into the assistant coaches in teams now I don't see too much. Do you have any in mind that spark some interest? Also the Roos rumour is only what the media are putting together am I right?

Actually, Bevo came from Collingwood via Hawthorn.

Don't we already Have:

  • Elliot
  • Fasolo
  • Crocker
In those Postions?
Move out Crocker for now. Nothing wrong with 2 small forwards, Fasolo is more a lead up marking forward. Works OK for other teams. He is very smart around goals and just as importantly would take him away from the midfield and backline where those stupid dinky kicks of his always result in a turnover then a goal. I counted 4 dumb kicks of his on the weekend as well as a gift goal most times which he proceeded to kick around his body and miss by a mile. What these players just don't seem to grasp is just kick the goal, pass the ball to a teammate, it doesn't have to look flashy. Just get the job done and you'll look good.

We need to make a big call, and trading Sidebottom is one of them.

If it were the case, what would he be worth? You'd want a pick 8-12 for him I would've thought...

Attach the draft with two top 10 picks and back the De Geoy/Maynard/Phillips to step up.

Key position draft, certainly will be bargains in the first round. Potential top 5 or top 10 picks will fall to late teens due to different clubs' preferences as well as the sheer volume of supply.

Looking back at the 2014 draft, Wright (pick 9) was thought to be in contention for pick 1, Goddard was briefly linked to us at pick 5 (Pick 21), Lever was considered to be a top 5 pick before injury doubts (Pick 14). It will happen.

I don't think pick 4 ish is the right pick to take to the draft.

The best options in no particular order are:

1. Draft best available at 4, could be someone like Fogarty who plays like Petracca/Martin, then pick up Reid in the FA.
2. If we don't get reid via FA. Pick 4+Sidebottom for Lever+Pick 18+Pick 36. Trade pick 18 and 36 for pick 12 ish. At pick 12, one of the top tier of KPF will fall through, could be any of Brander, Hayes, Ballenden, Coleman-Jones, Wooler.
3. Trade pick 4 for Pick 15, Pick 16, Pick 33, potentially landing 3 quality talls albeit not elite

I prefer option 2 at this stage, although not by much, it sucks that Pendles won't be a 2x premiership player, but this is the % play. Bottom line is 1st round KPPs are extremely valuable, as there is an oversupply in the first round this year there will certainly be value picks at every stage in the opening round of the draft.

Future team could be:
FB: Howe~Mclartly~Maynard
HB: Scharenberg~Lever~Aish
C: Sidebottom~Treloar~Broomhead
HF: WHE~Coleman-Jones~Kirby
FF: Fasolo~Moore~Elliot
R: Grundy~De Goey~ Adams
Int: Crisp, Brown, Sinclair, Ramsay

We start all over again, I know, but we need to mitigate the damage done to our list over the years. If there's 1 year to stockup on picks and build the spine of the team-KPFs & KPDs, it'd be this year.

Who did he throw away though? Heater had to go, he was losing his shit constantly, Wellingham wanted to go home, Didak stopped training hard, Jolly was cooked, Harry is Harry, Dawes was just shit, he had no say in Beams leaving.

If Reid somehow ends up leaving, we are severely screwed because that probably directly correlates with Sam not coming to Collingwood too.
I think that would set us back another 2-3 years.

Nostalgia has no place in the modern game. You weigh up what's best for the club and then act.

Personally, Steele aside, I don't see any value in trading them out so it's not a discussion I'm overly keen to be involved in. Steele is the only one that I think we can use to improve our list because I think he's rating is inflated externally. If the offers don't match that perception though you hold him.

That said there is absolutely no way that them being former premiership players even remotely enters the discussion. We'll never win #16 if we can't move on from #15!

I'd be very sad to see Reid depart, especially given the scarcity of established KPP's in our squad. That said though, if he can attract a 1st round pick then I could live with it. While my preference would be to take the pain and go to the draft, could see an established FA being targeted as a short term replacement to allow McLarty continued time to develop, maybe MacKenzie from WCEs. Not sure how it would impact our chances of securing Sam Reid.

I hope so.... It's a tough competition and if you don't make the hard calls, you'll get left behind.

Totally agree but who is available? All the good coaches are taken, would rather keep bucks than what's currently on offer unless it's the 3 mentioned earlier.

The general public didn't really know who Beverage was until he was appointed...and he netted the dogs a flag in 2 years.

Don't think Chris Fagan had much of a public profile either before being appointed by Brisbane...too early to judge but early signs are he's slowly but surely turning them around...and Brisbane are coming from a long way back.

I'm sure there are plenty of highly rated assistant coaches in the league atm ready to become senior coaches.

Adams won't be traded, hoping Sidders is though but only if tbe price is right, most realistic clubs for him would be North and the Bombers but their first rounders look like being top 4-5, neither would pay that for him IMO, i think he's worth a pick around 10.

Given his age i don't think North would be in contention...maybe Essendon if they think they're ready to put up the ladder.
Otherwise the main Melbourne club he would suit would be Saints, who are looking for a midfielder like him and to push up into top 8/4.

If he was prepared to move interstate, you'd reckon other top half teams like Port, Eagles and Crows would all be looking to bolster their midfields for next year.
