Thoughts on Nic Newman from Sydney. Word is North is now off him as they landed Jasper Pittard instead.

Newman does have elite foot skills and may fit in with our game style a bit better than Sydney's stunted style. A curious one worth looking at. Not seen a huge amount of him this year as he fell out of favour but last year he was very good. We still need to improve our lists generally poor foot skills so anyone who ticks that box will always get me interested.
Think we might be a little gun shy on left foot half backs from Sydney!!

This article provides a bit more than info about the Langdon situation. Importantly, it notes that Ned Guy is offering what he's offered a lot of our uncontracted players this year, two years. Langdon wants three.

I wouldnt know why the club doesnt want to commit to three years. i would guess the trelaoar deal and our other high coin players have deals backended, leading the club to want to clear out older players, i.e. dunn, wells, goldsack for the next few seasons

Langdon has been playing in the best 22 for the last season and a half, i would think a 3 year deal is fair for him

Jeez, what if Guy waits until mid-October to negotiate new contracts for De Goey and Grundy in 2020.

Silly argument. JDG and Grundy are top shelf. Langdon is good but expendable.

You sign everyone mid year you have nothing left to target free agents or other draft options.

Regardless of outcome now, decision not to offer a deal to Langdon earlier was appropriate at the time. Things are always easier in hindsight.

Ned Guy seems to have an obsession with two year deals this year. Puts us in a tricky situation come 2020.

I think it came down to either faz or Elliott, and Elliott got the contract
That is an interesting theory.

If so, I'd say there was a ten second clarification of how quickly we run to Elliott to get him signed.

I wish Alex well but he's not in the same class and level as Elliott.

Elliott could be elite to position if healthy.
Imagine how he'd go in this years better team?

Defences would poo themselves.
De Goey, Hyphen, Stephenson, big boy Cox, Thomas and then on top of that Elliott?

Not enough toilet paper in the MCG for defenders.
