Dixons seasons at Port over 4 years =
23 games,
20 games,
9 (injury year)
and to date 12 out of 13 games played missed rnd 1.

Looks pretty reliable to me.

Fair play, maybe just my perception.

This is his 10th year, he will be 30 in a month.
Career average
- 14.7 games a season played

With 140 odd games to his name when it could/should be over 200, just doesn’t feel like he’s durable enough.

It was strongly hinted at on the After the Game on Fox last night by Lyon, Riewoldt and Brown that Dixon already has an offer in front of him from BL. Lions feel that he us their missing piece to the puzzle

Why don’t we target Richmond’s kids, geez they look good. Aarts looks a really clever small forward and they have others really highly rated like rcd and co.

Well there should be that ability if we are willing to cut our list deep enough.

“Richmond have the maximum six Category A rookies in 2020 – Jake Aarts, Liam Baker, Mabior Chol, Derek Eggmolesse-Smith, Marlion Pickett and Sydney Stack – and all are currently regulars in coach Damien Hardwick’s best 22.

Three of those rookies – Aarts, Pickett, Eggmolesse-Smith – are out of contract. Under AFL rules, players who have been on the rookie list for two years or more can reject another rookie contract and become unrestricted free agents.”

I’d love us to steal a few gems from around the edges like Aarts, Stack and Baker.

I was keen on Stack during his draft year and he really could be that small crumbling forward we need.

Even better would be to somehow get Short out of there. The guy is a bloody good player.

We should exploit that for a small forward.

Their Rookie list is better than half our team

Yeah that average largely affected by his first 5 years at gc.

His last 5 year history is:

Port 18 games in 2016
2017 - 23
2018 - 20
2019 - 9
2020 - 12* ongoing.

So yeah maybe an early career perception that stuck but no longer relevant to him.

I'd go for one of the uncontracted guys and avoid the need to trade. I really like Pickett and what he offers.

Yeah don’t get me wrong I’d also be keen on exploring that.

But Stack seems to be around the fringes and the Tigers have made a habit of letting those guys go for very little. They’ll have to next year if lists are slashed anyway.

Yet we hold onto our fringe players like there is no tomorrow

Fringe/Bottom 22 players always look better in a dominant team. None of those names fill me with excitement

I think the small forwards are better than we have on our list and the broader market is pretty skint for crumbers it seems. I think there is some value there for us.

With Daniher announcing that he wants to stay at the Bummers. Wright is very very gettable now.

He might not be the answer, but I rather have him on our list than Reid & Cameron.

I think he could compliment our team very well.
He'd make a nice replacement for Reid if he comes cheap. Good depth option, has had a couple of strong years and is still young. He's obviously not Cameron, Hawkins, Dixon or even Brown, but I think he'd be alright.

A lot depends on what happens with Cox

Wright may be a slight upgrade on Cox & Cameron. Just doesn't fill me with confidence we would be much better off.

Was interesting in listening to Derm talk about him yesterday. Reckons he could be a great pickup he just needs a decent mentor (Old key forward) to actually teach him forward craft. Said the fact he can provide proper ruck relief is invaluable.

Surprisingly (for me) he was also glowing about Cam McCarthy. Reckons he was easily the best contested mark at Gws when he was helping out there. Just hasn’t been allowed to play to his strengths.

its been reported that Hardwick had to pull him into line when he was first recruited - so I wonder whether application is the issue, because he is very talented and probably best 22 for the tigers.

I think the main thing is they wanted to play him back. But his disposal by foot can often be wayward and other guys like Baker have gone past him.

I’d prefer to play him forward as he has so many tricks it would give our forward line a different look.

The obsession with sending one of the competitions best forwards into the middle is nauseating.

125 goals in 94 games and he’s one of the best forwards ha.
He should be doing what Christian Petracca is doing at Melbourne right now. They’re the same player.
Let him rest forward and snag one or two but he should be primarily playing in the guts.

I must have missed when Petracca kicked 48 goals as a full-forward in a Grand Final side. De Goey should play centre clearances, but he should then rotate forward in my opinion

Has kicked 89 goals in the last 2 & 1/2 seasons. Which is the most at Collingwood in said time, despite missing fairly significant portions of last season & this season.

So, yeah - he's pretty clearly our best forward. And one of the games best when he's fully fit & firing.

That’s worked extremely well for him over the last year and a half hasn’t it.
Mainly forward this year, 7 goals in 6 games.
Finished with 34 last year.

JDG has all the attributes to be a a top 5 MID in the game, you only have to look at Dusty and Petracca and how strong they are in the contest. We get sucked in to using Pendlebury, Sidebottom and Treloar too much on the inside and lose their class on the outside.

We have enough genuine small forwards in Billy, Stepho, Hoskin Elliott, Sidey plus others and they’re much cheaper to come by. We’ll be a much better side when we can shift Checkers to a lesser defender and have JDG playing full time MID.

Hahaha you’re an idiot. Nah I guess playing Elliott in the guts who’s a genuine small forward and not a midfielder is the way of the future. Keep running the bodies off all the old timers in Pendles and Sidey, nah that’ll be great for the future won’t it. Guess we can continue to see rubbish like Wills and JT line up in the guts while we hide JDG down in the forward pocket.
So, we pretty clearly can't score at the moment - whats the nuff solution to that problem?

Clearly go after the abundance of key forwards on the market, pick up a genuine small forward threat and keep Elliott (had 17 CBA’s the other week LOL) as a full time forward. Elliott has kicked 30+ four times and we’re using him exclusively as an on baller? LOL. Not that hard nuffie.
Stepho will improve with better forwards around him, so will Checkers. They’re the guys who should be kicking 30+ with a Brown/Dixon type kicking 40+. JDG should be used forward as a luxury or rested, EXACTLY like Dusty was used in 2017 when he crushed every single record book known to man.
We didn’t use a #5 pick to waste JDG in the forward pocket.
