I'm sorry but all the passive-aggressive LOL'ing in the world doesn't change the fact that our forward issues stem almost entirely from the snail's pace at which we move the ball up the ground, which allows the opposition to clog up our forward line.

As I'm sure you're aware the art of presenting options to the player in possession has many moving parts, with multiple leading patterns, blocks, double leads, etc and all of this is made infinitely more difficult if you're waiting 60-90 seconds for the ball to progress from half back to F50 and the opposition has had time to push numbers back / across to the most likely point of entry.

As I've said multiple times now we look like superstars in the brief patches where we do move the ball quickly and the forward line you're maligning seems to work pretty well when that happens.

Keep potting the forwards as much as you want, but ultimately if things don't change drastically with our structures and ball movement further up the ground then you could plug the next coming of Jesus in our forward line and he still wouldn't get much of a sniff.

Spot on. Hopefully the ball movement will change with personnel changes and a list free of injury.

this happened in 2018 and look how our forward line functioned then, we had the same forwards in 2018 as we had for this season. [/B]Getting Ben Brown or Jeremy Cameron wont help if they are served up the delivery and slow ball movement we dished up for majority of this year. Targeting Gunston is a good sign that we will be looking to lower the eyes instead of bombing into our forward 50.

You shouldnt be bombing it in to those players either or moving it slowly.

Good luck with Gunston if Buckley doesnt change how we move the ball and set up in the midfield.

Rubbish again - we burn players on the lead forward of centre in favour of a short chip forwards or sideways on such a regular basis that it's almost comical.

Seriously have you even watched any of our games over the past 12 months, because what I've described is exactly what happens with our ball movement more often than not and it has nothing to do with forwards not presenting for the ball carrier.

Imo its a mixture of both not 1 or the other.

Our fwds dont present often or near enough but also our ball movent and game style is waaaayyy to slow and indirect.

Let’s just burn all our picks on mids and see absolutely no improvement in the side

Prevent us turning it over at half forward means not blazing away and have an opposition HBF take an intercept mark across half forward
This has nothing to do with forward pressure

We aim to eliminate turn overs as we are taking the ball forward

As one of the leading sources of scoring is turning it over at your half forward line or the oppositions half back line

Is Beams the only player pies have ever traded out for a first round pick????

On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app

Beams, Wellingham, Dawes & Tarrant. Dale Thomas also got us a first round compensation pick when he moved as a Free Agent.

*Edit* Paul Williams as well.

Jetta trade doesn’t make any sense to me,unless it’s to move Maynard into the midfield,as others have said. But we could do that anyway,by playing Quaynor on the backline, with Howe coming back next year as well.

Wouldn't complain if McDonald came to us as a fullback to replace Roughead, Dees destroyed him as a forward, new club back to defence could be a steal only just turned 28.

Jetta into defence which releases Crisp into the midfield.

Gunston as a trade

That would be 3 nice inclusions.

This was the case in the few live games I saw in 2019, but I think it was our structure more than our forwards. Our forwards pushed up so high that they couldn't present at the footy. Had to run back with the flight. We did the same in 2018, but defences were following us in 2018 and leaving a heap of space for us to sprint back into. It's how we scored so heavily. Defenders no longer leave us that space over the top.

God knows about 2020 - can't tell on tv.

I remember this being brought up a few years ago, sorry if already been discussed but does Cox's VISA cause any issues with him changing club? (i.e. change of employer)

edit: Nevermind
Cox was seeking permanent resident status on a path towards Australian citizenship to fulfill his desire to live the rest of his life in Australia, committing to a multi-year contract at Collingwood. At the end of March 2020, he was accepted to become an Australian citizen.
