Because if Reid does not resign with the Eagles, then they will shop him at the end of the year for the best they can get. Essendon will have 2 first rounders in 2025 and possibly 2 future picks to use.

im so torn on reid. on one hand hes clearly a gun and will likely be a brownlow medallist early in his career, we should get in early and try and lock him away. on the other hand he comes off as an arrogant campaigner and could be a destabilising agent in a very young group with an inexperienced coach. do we wait till hes a bit more mature and our next gen leaders and coach are more firmly established?

just the pre-draft interviews and hysteria he bought into, that scene with simpson resigning where they exchange words and harleys having a laugh at him, the commentary about him not wanting to do the team things and it being all about harley. he's young enough to pull his head in if it needs to be but i reckon it's worth considering when you're looking at dropping 2m on a player.
Could just be media BS. If you remember the media coverage of Dusty at the start you would believe he was destined to go bad. To me Ried comes across as a young and a little bit brash and WAAAY to confident with the media. Give him a couple of years and some training from the Dustin Martin Media Training Acadamy and he may well be fine. However, I hope the Richmond fc policy of No DH's applies no matter how talented he is.
I think he’d be a fair chance to get back to Vic for us to jump the queue we’d need to offer stupid money , or we start showing genuine signs that the investment we have just made Is gonna bear fruit
They can also teach him how to break a contract or not re sign so he can come to the RFC.

I think Reid is likely a star in the making. 20Million is a huge risk for a bloke who has had 1 year,will be 2 in the system.
