They weren't in the best 15 players or so at Port. Both came relatively cheap. One was a free agent from memory

Not sure how you can say that when we literally plucked Grigg, Houli, Nankervis and Caddy from obscurity.
You can always find some hidden gems and we shouldn't close ourselves off from that.
We already had the talent on the list then but not anymore
in 2 years time - YES but currently we need the list spots

We start with 1 // 21, 29 // 39, 41 // 49, 58, 65

Brisbane's pick 14 (assuming they lose) is actually going to be pick 16 (after Ashcroft and Lombard bids), so any points discussions should be based on it being pick 16. I know there's other NGA / F/S picks around the 15-30 mark, but let's assume that only those 2 bids get matched. All picks from ~3 onwards get pushed out by 1, and by ~7 onwards by 2.

24 for Graham via FA
7 and 22 for Rioli (with us paying part of 2 years salary)
11, 12, and 17 for Bolton and 22 (with us paying part of 2 years salary)
4 and 26 for Baker, 12, and 31

We then have 1, 4, 7, 11, 17 // 23, 24, 26 // 39, 41 // 49, 58, 65

16 (1067) from Brisbane for 26, 39, 41, 58 (1757). If they can't turn pick 26 into more points from other teams, they should be stripped of a license. Melbourne could easily give them the points they need (have 38, 46, 50)

We then have 1, 4, 7, 11, 16, 17 // 23, 24 // 49, 65

Can trade 23/24 to teams for future 1sts (Melbourne would be top of my list)

Can use 49 (will come in about 5 picks after bid matching) as well as our PSD Pick 1 to trade in fringe players from other teams; Nathan O'Driscoll, Konstanty, Stone, Bond, Fahey, Serong, etc.

Upgrade Bauer with 65

Finish with 1, 4, 7, 11, 16, 17
Plus 2 future 1sts
Plus 2 quality fringe players in the 20-25 age bracket

If there were a clear top 3 in this draft, for sure I’d be all keen to do what we can do get this done. But I’m not seeing it, we need quality and quantity. Should be aiming to take at least 6 picks this year and another 4 next year along with some FAs.
Agreed

From the way things look the 2025 dradt has the 3 standouts and in a draft like that great

But throw a blanket over 10 players this year

He’s a club hero. They’re not gonna rip up his $$$ deal, but they/ Bevo made it very clear where they rate him this year.

Least surprising request of the postseason so far
So why should the doggies give up a pick to off load the club hero ?
He will be free to good home as Tom Mitchell was and a team like North , St Kilda , Eagles or Richmond will take him provided he is free but doggies wont give up a pick for him

If that’s the case, and I don’t think we have 10 No.3 chances this year & 14 months away is a long time off, then trading up in 2025 would be much more expensive then it will be this year. Logically.

Teams who trade up usually win the deal.

As always, price vs value, but if we want to, happy to assess when we see the deal(s).

Amon was a free agent. In his last year at Port he topped their Brownlow voting and was third in their B&F. He played every single game of his last three years at Port, didn't miss one. Got double-figure Brownlow votes in each of the last two of those years.

Impey played 75 games in his four years at Port. That's 19 a year from the day he was drafted. In 2016 he won the Gavin Wanganeen Medal for Port's best under-21 player.

Personally I don't see how we get a hold of pick 2 and 3 while holding onto 1. Even if we trade all of 6, 9 and 10.
I'm excited to see us try though lol
Pick 2>>>>6 & 21
Pick 3>*>>Baker & 9

1/2/3/10/13/14

2 or 3 additional firsts even if we have picks 1,2 & 3? I highly doubt it.

Would love to hear how you come up with that though?
6 & 20 Rioli (possibility of winkling 13 instead of 20 if we stump us a heap of cash)
9 & 10 Bolton (maybe a 2nd added if we pay enough salary)
14 Brisbane trade

Gives us 1-6-9-10-14-20-21-22

Baker + 10 for 3
6 + 9 for 2

Leaves 1-2-3-14-20-21-22 (Graham compo)

14-20 are 1st round picks, with the added bonus of the first 2 picks on the 2nd night.

would be nice but cant see it happening

Why the f*** are we trying to move up the draft order when it’s so even from 1-10 odd? Smith, Langford, Smillie, Draper, etc. aren’t worth trading up for.
Because it's not even from 1-10. There's probably 2 or 3 blokes in contention for pick one now. Best way to guarantee we choose correctly is to take all of them.

Re: 2025
Thats why i believe we will finish last and should allow Balta to leave as a free agent and i love Balta but he will be 30 next time we are actually challenging for a flag and #1 + #2 in next years draft will be GOLD

This year we should just be picking best available at our natural picks and building the best possible team with 7 selections
4 mids 2 KPP 1 ruck then next year we have Ludowyke & Sharp. If these 2 boys were available this year - Go for it

So why should the doggies give up a pick to off load the club hero ?
He will be free to good home as Tom Mitchell was and a team like North , St Kilda , Eagles or Richmond will take him provided he is free but doggies wont give up a pick for him
Not suggesting a Bowes deal, but that one was available to more than Geelong. Will be a product of their cap headroom (admittedly helped by no Bailey Smith & probably Lobb) but if the acquirer is taking on the contract, I don’t think free to a good home is a starting point (for us, anyway).

And Mitchell was 29, a Brownlow medallist, one year after winning the Hawks B&F (his third in six years) & a clear need for the Pies.

Macrae would be a dump

6 & 20 Rioli (possibility of winkling 13 instead of 20 if we stump us a heap of cash)
9 & 10 Bolton (maybe a 2nd added if we pay enough salary)
14 Brisbane trade

Baker + 10 for 3
6 + 9 for 2

Leaves 1-2-3-14-20-21-22 (Graham compo)

14-20 are 1st round picks, with the added bonus of the first 2 picks on the 2nd night.
Picks : 1-6-9-10-14-20-21-22 would be the best result & not wasting any by trading up to #2 o#3 unless Baker was involved. Hopefully we can get the following;

Fos
Jagga
Ried
Armstrong
Gross
Berry
Faull

1/2 & 3
Guarantees us the players we want.
And still have 2 or 3 1sts too do as we please with.
I'd sooner pick with 1, 2, 3 & 12 in the first round than 1, 7, 11, 12, 17 & 22.

(Taking into account picks getting pushed back by approx. bids and FA compo)
