Forget about storing picks up for next years draft... particularly beyond round 1. There is a reason why everyone is desperate to get picks in the top 30 this year. We should be ALL IN on using every pick we possibly can get - our first 5 picks might be the equivalent to Pick 1 next year in talent.

And there is every chance we lose more experience next year.

Finally... we should not be entering any discussion with other clubs for trading up to picks 2 & 3. Let them throw the world at us... l'd prefer to keep 6 picks inside 20-odd than drop down to 5, just to get pick 2 or 3. There's reports FOS could drift as low as 6-7 spots, we'll always get the drifters.

this below is called fake news through the media. If anything FOS has firmed for the number one

if the media says one thing anticipate the opposite like Melbourne and Swans being favourites before the GF's pre-game

The Age have reported Richmond has requested 6 + 13.

"Richmond has also already said they want an extraordinary deal for them to be agree to Daniel Rioli’s request to be traded to the Gold Coast and has asked for the Suns’ picks six and 13."

Should force Gold Coast to give 6 and their second rounder(s)

I will catch a plane to Gold Coast and dance nude down Surfers Paradise if we manage to get pick 6 & 13 for Rioli

No one wants to trade out of this year's draft. I doubt they'd get a first-rounder for their future first. So their first pick and more would be swallowed up in an Ashcroft bid.
The idea is that we trade our later picks for their 2025 R1. All they need to do is continue to bring forward their R1 pick to match bids. No issue for them doing that as they meet the requirements to take at least 2 R1 picks every 4 years.

Even if it's better it'll be worse.
You can't say that for certain, as there is still 12 moths for next year's crop to establish themselves. Pretty sure this year wasn't considered as deep as it has become 12 months ago.

6 and 23 (even with later picks going across to them) is a great result for Rioli. Need to walk the line between being pushovers and being dumb, stubborn campaigners. Reality is that we need 28yo Rioli out the door so we can maximise our chances of renewal, especially given that he himself wants to **** off. It will be a loss for us if no deal is made.

North is perfect... wanted to get rid of Pick 2, split it and move down the draft for a tall. If we could give a incoming Rioli or Bolton picks. & some swap of later picks.

1,2, 10, 11 or 1, 2, 6, 10 as first 4 picks is better than 1,6, 10, 11

It doesn't matter how many points they bring in via late picks if they still hold their first-rounder - it will be the first pick they lose matching a bid.

Really, so why did Blair decide 12 months ago to invest heavily in it?

No chance GC will walk away from getting Dan. Dimma will demand it.

If we don't squeeze the crap out of them then it's moronic.

Watch what Port will demand for Houston. It will be way overs and will drag on.

And before you say Houston is better than Dan, I haven't heard Houston requesting a trade to Gold Coast.

Noble, only one top 10 finish in Collingwood's B&F (that was 9th) no all Australians and missed out on the flag.
Talk about overrating a player.
vfl player couldnt get a game

Yeah that second point is spot on. The club has clearly identified this draft as being worth getting into from last year

The fact it’s actually played out as a great decision based on the eventual depth does bode well for how our recruiting team is going

I feel like it's easier to leverage a club and try to pressure a result during the trade period. Having Baker as a negotiation chip is handy.
As the draft draws closer, the harder it will be to extract a top pick like 2 or 3 as clubs will have players that they eventually commit to taking.
Also if we go to draft night with a truckload of later picks we won’t use then our leverage is pretty modest. Supports earlier points trades

I'm so glad people on here don't do the deals for us. How stupid do you think the club is to let these guys go for an average deal.
Gold Coast will give us 6 and 13.
Fremantle will fork out 10 and 11
You better believe they will.
Don't fall for this media bullshit.
Start negotiations at 6 and 13, but let it slip a bit from there if necessary. Demanding 6 and 13 for Rioli, even given that he's contracted, is Dodoro-like IMO.
