Below is the worst case for our pick 7 if everyone above us goes for the most highly-rated midfielder available. Just ignored Daicos & Darcy and matched bids.

Pick 1 - JHF to North
Pick 2 - Callahan to GWS
Pick 3 - Ward to GC
Pick 4 - Erasmus to Adelaide
Pick 5 - Hobbs to Hawthorn
Pick 6 - Goater to Freo (Carlton's pick)
Pick 7 - TIGERS - Rachele, Gibcus, Sinn, Johnson, Wanganeen-Milera

Gibcus, Mac Andrew & Jye Amiss are "wildcards" and any of them could go before our pick, meaning possibility of Erasmus or Hobbs being available at our first pick.
What is the difference between a pick 7 player and Ward worth to us?
Is Ward worth trading 7 & 15 for? eg Is he worth more than both Matt Johnson & Matt Roberts together?

Regardless, I wouldn't offer too much for an upgrade to anything other than pick 2 or 3. Not paying overs for the chance that Ward slips to pick 4.

Curnow’s injuries are not debilitating. Carlton have a poor fitness department. As I said he was close to Teague and now happy and it is a good chance he comes to us cheaply. The chances of a pick in the 20s working out are similar to Curnow working but Curnows upside is seriously insane👊🏼. He kicked 7 goals before the injury. He is the perfect mid forward and his armspan nullifys Riewoldt height. I vividly remember him tearing rance a new one.

It was a tweet by "the trade whisperer".

If you're willing to give it air time, all power to you.

Not sure I'd be overly happy with that happening
Pretty sure we won't be trading our 2 second rounders to the Bulldogs.
But otherwise, one of the better articles I've seen.
The first one that has mentioned the number of picks limited to list vacancies and considered it as a factor in the Pies dilemma.
I wish it could still have gone further than just say they currently have 8 unsigned players and gone into what happens if they choose to leave those players unsigned leading into the draft.

Sonsie played a great game for Box Hill in his VFL debut with Mitchell as the coach, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Hawks take him with their pick.

GCS need KPP's and could well take Gibcus as could GWS but they might be aiming to pick up a KPP at their 2nd.

I'm of the opinion that we sit on our first 2 picks, trade our late second 38 & 39 (Chol & CCJ) plus 42 & 47 for the Dogs 17 & 72, trade 72 to North for Tarrant and head to the draft with 7 15 17 26 & 28.

Other than being able to move up this is pretty much our perfect scenario

Lots of meat on that bone.

Sets us up for a rebuild whilst in our premiership window - delicious 😋

Leaving Daicos & Darcy out of it.
Nth-Horne
GWS-Andrew
Suns-Gibcus
Crws-Callahan
Haw-Sonsie
Freo*-Erasmus
Rich-Ward

Its a tricky spot for us really.
We might move up spots for no reason if you go by rumours and logic of what other sides will do.
Pick 7 we could end up with a choice of both callahan & ward if others do something unexpected.

Talk is the Hawks want Ward so he ain’t getting passed them.

I'd like that. And then live-trade to upgrade our 2022 picks on the night depending on how we view the talent at various picks.
Should be plenty of desperate clubs around

Yes. Sonsie, Mac Andrew, Amiss, Gibcus, Wanganeen-Milera....
The top 5 could fall so many different ways, let alone trying to predict the first 10.

That would be very nice given that we probably will only pick up 4-5 players this draft at most.

I know North Melbourne would do that, but would Bulldogs? It sounds like they’re keen on getting one of our picks in the 20s. I say one because taking both of our picks in the 20s is out of the question without a convincing deal.

I guess it depends on the deal, what if the Dogs said 26 & 28 for 17 and 2022 R1?
Sorry what? You want to trade our two second round picks for their first round pick this year and next year?
