Hate the idea of De Goey. He'll cost far too much for his output and he strikes me as the sort of bloke that will dish up poor production once he signs a big deal somewhere.

I don't actually mind the idea of Dow for a late pick or swap of thirds etc. He's not going to get a game at Carlton ahead of Cripps, Walsh, Hewett, Cerra et al, but potentially has the capacity to get more opportunity here and fills a role for us. Could be an upgrade on Ross/RCD/Martyn and may even delivering on his potential with a change of scenery.

A deal like that would have to involve Tigers paying a big chunk of Martin’s wage. But if Martin wanted to go there I would think Richmond would not stand in his way, and a deal like that may suit both clubs.

Green and a top 10 pick to Tigers.

Martin to GWS with Tigers paying about $600-800k pa for the last 2 years of his contract, maybe a lower pick in the 20’s going back to GWS.

Let me start by saying Dustin Martin is the best player I’ve seen and I pray he remains a Tiger for life. But it’s fanciful to think GWS are giving up their best player and a lock to be a star for at least a decade AND a top-10 pick for a 31yo Dustin Martin.

They wouldn’t even entertain a straight swap.

If it was to be requested I think to be realistic would be Martin plus us paying $500k of his $1.3m salary for 2-years and a 2nd rounder for Green.

It would be a deal that favours GWS from 2023-2024, then Richmond from 2025 until when Green retires (2033?)…

What do people think of us going after ugal hagan we need a key forward for when Jack retires he was touted as the next buddy Franklin plus when was the last time the bulldogs ever developed a key forward I think he is gettable and we should go for it
Plays soft which means he’ll never be an A grader , he’s an outside med tall forward , you’d have him for a pick 25 , no more

Depends how much they want Martin , he’s arguably the best player in the comp and contracted for 2y it’ll take a god father offer to prize him from us and your deluded to think that the likes of treloar and Dylan shiel have attracted more than the peanuts you’re suggesting , feel free to delete your silly post

I think you’re significantly underestimating dusty he’s a generational player that still impacts at an elite level , if Bryce Gibbs at 29 can attract 2 x r1 , fair to say dusty would be Tom green plus r1 at a minimum , and I mean min

If Martin was not the calibre of player he is then no possible way GWS are giving up Tom Green and a likely top 10 pick for him. But no matter how much GWS might want Martin, there is no way they could take his wage off our hands with the salary ledger they have. They are probably also not in a position to offer Green a suitable long term deal where we should be able to. If the players were both good with it, you could see how it might happen.

Neither Syd team could afford without cutting 2 high qty paid players that’s why I’ve said all along , unlikely until his contract expires

You are overlooking the possibility of Richmond paying a large chunk of Dusty’s wage in the event he goes to GWS, in order to facilitate a deal well in Richmond’s favour of course.

Ok people how about we keep Dusty, get Green and De Goey in this year so everybody is happy. I’m sure we could cull enough fringe/retiring players to fit them in. It’d be a bonus if we go in the draft with at least a second rounder and pick up the best available inside mid.

Also do people think our first plus norths second would be enough to get Green in?

We already have Dusty & Bolton, we don't need Kmart Dusty who plays a similar role

Every chance Dusty retires after DeGoey, there's only 4 years difference in age and Dusty shows no signs of slowing down any time soon

Hope you’re right but I’d like our forward line to be extremely dangerous at all times, if one of those 3 underperform in a game the other 2 will be able to pick up the slack. It’s better than having Castanga around there. We’d have more midfield depth too, pretty sure de goey goes alright in there.

Peanuts ? Tom Green is the BEST young midfielder in the competition. For some reason BF posters don’t seem to appreciate the 10-year … yes, 10-year … age gap is not going to be a major factor in negotiations.

So to suggest we’d get Green (10 years of guaranteed top-line footy) plus a first rounder (12 years of likely top-line footy) for Dusty (4 years of elite footy) is not realistic.

Depends where a team thinks they are at
If you are contending and need someone that is a proven match winner in finals, then you will need to pay for it

GWS have won two games for the year and coach is playing his last game today, no chance they are thinking about topping up for finals for a few years
They would be trying to save salary cap space and start a rebuild not trying to bring in a 31 year old on over a million a year

Agreed, I can't see how either Sydney team would be able to get him

Tend to agree
He’s still contracted and the money his on makes it a tough sell for clubs to make work throw in what we would ask at the trade table especially if they want us to pay some of his wage

Your neglecting the commercial aspect of what Dusty would bring to GWS.
If Dusty requests it.Gil wouldn't be on the phone quick enough to get the deal done.
Dusty would be too the Giants as what Lockett was to the Swans.
We'd have to pay some of Dustys wage so what percentage will depend what the Giants offer.
I'd pay 1mil if it nets us Green & their 1st.
Get Green for 500k for 2yrs and its break even.

  • Paddy Dow is contracted and blues wont let him go for chips with another year to see if they can get him right and he is on peanuts so why should they
  • GWS are not going to give us a 1st round pick plus the best under 2 player for Dusty
*We should never pay a players salary to play for another team - Thats stupid and a collingwood thing to do

GWS already have some of the best players in the comp, they won’t be looking for marquee bums on seats types because they already have them

And they'll be getting the best player in the comp.
That player brings bums on seats.
AFL house will love it.

GWS aren't going to be rebuilding. For starters they don't have to as they have had at least two first round draft picks in all bar one of the last 5 drafts and mostly because the core of their list is ready to challenge for a flag. They simply need to find a far better balance between role players and stars and find a better a coach. They are a at a similar cross roads as we were in 2016.

Greene is just as much a drawcard as Dusty and still probably has his best footy ahead of him they don’t need Dusty to be that guy
