We can do all 3. Our drafting has left us with a few holes, we need to fill those with free agents and alternate talent pathways. Setterfield offers more than guys like Martyn, Dow and Ross and doesn’t need years of development to help out straight away.

But he would cost more than a martyn so becomes a list clogger...

If we win the flag this year I would take Mundy in the PSD just for 1 year. Even if he played 15 games and was a backup he would add depth and hed be someone you could depend on in finals. Rebuilds are good but when you have a chance at putting a premiership cup in the cabinet you take it. If he was the last person on our list it wouldnt be a bad thing. Ie. Would you prefer Aarts on your list or Mundy. Id take Mundy even at 37.

It’s a no to Mundy. Unless it’s so I can go to that Deledio v Mundy thread and agree Mundy is better.

Short sighted opinion I think. A few years ago he looked like coming good but fell victim to the rotating door of coaches.

My only concern is whether he’ll ever develop that killer edge a contested mid needs. If he finds I think he’s got all the tools to be a very good and hopefully cheap midfielder for us.

He’s a spud that’s why he’s not getting a game. He’s also a squib.
No thanks

I think I remember reading somewhere that Miles Bergman and Hugo Ralphsmith were close from their Sandringham TAC cup years.

Both similar players in ways, but were an elite half back combination at under 18 level.

Port would be asking for a top 20 pick at the least. So it would be a long shot but very talented none the less
Port can ask all they like but wont get it for a player wanting to come back home
similar trade value to what we got for Higgins

But like Bergman and think he has the potential to become a good mid and wouldnt be against getting him for our pick #19
Good size and has speed agility and played over 30 games

There is no way we have enough senior list spots to be bringing in a player like Setterfield this offseason

Quick question about this coming week. I know that this is a draft question not a trade, but not sure where the other thread is. My understanding is that we have the first pick of the second night at the moment. Is that right? Pick 19 from North... So there should be a 1 week death ride going on for Saturday? West Coast highly unlikely to get Geelong at GMHBA, so we need Gold coast to get up over North, by a margin greater than 6% points less than the probable margin between Geelong and WCE? Am I reading that right?

Sorry for the compound question... Follow the bouncing ball....

6% won’t be made up. If Norf lose they will finish bottom unless the Eagles lose by about 200 points.

Let this sink in....Jared Polec is the highest paid player at North 🤣🤣

You would like to think if Jack and Trent play on it would be for 300k. That alone would free up a bit of cap space.

It doesn’t really ‘free up’ cap space, as the salary cap is managed many years in advance. So if expectations were that Jack was going to be retired end of 2022, then paying him $300k in 2023 is not freeing up anything as it’s $300k they thought would be assigned to a new draftee on $100k. So Jack going on costs $200k, doesn’t free it up.

So I’m not saying we don’t sign him or Cotch as I definitely think we should, but it’s not freeing up money if players go beyond their expected retirements even if they take significant pay cuts.

Having said that, the retirements of Caddy, Astbury and Lambert (and Rance) ahead of what would have been expected would have freed up a lot of cash as they retired ahead of expectations.

Why are we even talking about Mundy?

It's a hard NO.
I would rather a fat daniel jackson that has become an alcoholic and junk food addict and weights 200 kilo over mindy

Can’t remember a bloke travelling as well as Mundy is at 37 and retiring.
Still putting up strong clearance and tackling numbers and runs out games better than most. He said he wanted to play on but Freo tapped him on the shoulder. I’d love to see him get another year somewhere. Seriously good footballer that would help set standards at any club looking to set the bar for a young group, or perhaps added midfield depth for a year then into coaching. North or Essendon perhaps?

West Coast would be mad not to ask the question after how little their well paid senior and veteran mids were able to contribute this season.

Mundy playing low TOG switching through the middle with a young mid like Brodie who can also only play low TOG worked well for Freo, he'd quite probably do well in a similar nursing role for another year or two.
