We're already after him.

The clubs I've mainly seem linked to him are Essendon, Carlton, St Kilda and us. Bombers' first pick is already committed to Daniher and we have the advantage of a compo pick that the others don't. Our compo pick is worth a lot more to the Suns than it is us - assuming they finish bottom 4 next year it's essentially a top 5 pick we'd be giving them. Surely they'd take that given Caddy was a pick 7...

Am I wrong I thought the compo pick was tied to our position?

It is but I think something GC would still be after because they can "bank" it to be used within the next 2 drafts (I think?).
Its definately an ace we have...
Yeah compo is tied to our position , so if we were to finish around 7th in the next 2 years GCwould be holding a pick around 12. Considering Caddy went at seven would not be far off the mark.

It is.

I reckon we could end up in a similiar spot next year to where St Kilda finished this year, so essentially it could become a pretty decent pick.

I wouldn't give up anything on top of that for him.

Ok, just cause he was a high pick they will want ridiculous compensation, we will come back with a counter offer, vice versa. I just hope they don't give up to much to try and get him. Plus we have to un Goldcoast him

I'd be ok giving say compo and 3rd round (or 2nd round for caddy and a 3rd round or whatever) and trying to get hold of someone else, a Silvagni or someone.
If you read the papers apparently the Cats have 700+ grand to play with (now not sure if thats minimum, as it to reach the minimum spend or if thats 700 to 100% of the cap).
700k is alot if you are looking at decent players, could snare 2 or 3 if we play our cards right...

Essendon will need to trade hard to get him
Why would anyone go to melbourne
St kilda need a backman more than anything but if goddard goes they will have dealing ammo

And carlton are after cloke, if they land him they will have nothing

Scarlo, Wojo, Byrnes will free up some cash you would think. Who will go onto the veterans list

That's a shame if the compo pick is tied to our ladder position. I thought if we on traded it it would be tied to theirs. Damn.
It's ok if they think we're going to fall off a cliff in the next year or two. It's all about perception. They probably think they'll pass us on the way up and that it's better that it's tied to us. Little do they know ;)

Pretty much this.
I cant see the bombers snagging him since they WILL have to go after Daniher, which as you pointed out leaves us in a strong position.
Would we consider trading the compo to the bombers for say a bellchambers and allow them to get caddy?
I'll be honest I havent seen much of him, any1 have some vision or stats or a quick run down on the type of player we think he could be for us?

Pacy, skillful, goal kicking mid. The thought of Caddy running around alongside Varcoe, Menzel, Motlop and co is very exciting.

Gold Coast wont want players. They have to downsize list already and will need to offload 6 others from list. And they wont want late picks, they will only use 3 picks in draft maximum. Already have picks 2,25 and 44. Compo makes sense, they are going the get O'Meara on senior list plus Toumpas at pick 2, so I think speading out first rounders over next few years makes list balance sense. Here is hoping we get him.

Had me at pacy.
I thought he was an inside mid for some reason, can you compare him to anyone on the list currently? Maybe a Duncan type?

So if we were to trade this compo pick to GC and we happened to win the premiership next year (wishful thinking), then it will only be say pick 19?

Essendon will be hard pressed to go after Caddy. 1st Pick gone for Daniher and now going hard for Goddard and while able to get him for nothing, he will eat up a big chunk of their salary cap. No way they can get another 1st rounder for the players they would be prepared to trade. Can't see GC wanting any of the Bomber bigs they are likely put up.

St Kilda would have to be going after big guys. Only one ruck, Roo & Kos only a year or two more up forward and down back Blake & Fisher are either out or not long to go and hardly much coming through. They also have a very tight SC so not much cash to splash. However if they loose Goddard, they will probably go fairly hard at Caddy. Plus their pick in this years draft is only a couple better then ours. No contest.

If Carlton go after Cloke, then they are no chance for Caddy. They really don't need anymore mids, they must be after a forward or a back to replace Thornton, Bower and Russell. Surely they couldn't have much salary cap room either. Again their pick is only slightly better then ours. Not a worry I reckon.

Big dangers I see are Melbourne, while you doubt anyone would want to go there, they do have a lot to offer GC. Maybe also Richmond, could offer up pick 8, have a reasonable future and would have money to spend.

All in all the Cats are a good chance, have money to spend, trading cards to play and a bright future to entice. Now we just need him to have an interest in the Cats and we can giddy up. Come on down Cads, G Town is the place to be.

The 700k is what is available to us for due to the number of Veterans on our list ($100k per veteran is held out of the cap) plus the money we have from any de-listings to come, so we do have a nice little war chest to be able to make a very attractive offer monetary wise.

So if we were to trade this compo pick to GC and we happened to win the premiership next year (wishful thinking), then it will only be say pick 19?
That's right but if GC use the other Ablett compo or any of the other compo picks they hold pick our pick drifts again according to where we and the Suns finish

He had 18 touches and 3 goals against us this season, no wonder we're after him. Hopefully we have more luck with him than Boak.
Will be a great get for us if we do manage to snag him. Should be able to take some of the load off of Selwood and might even mean that Bundy doesn't cop as many head knocks as Caddy is a food inside player and can get the ball out to Bundy instead of making him go get it himself.

Don't shoot the messenger but there's a story going around that he's already agreed on a deal with you guys. I personally think there's still too much time, too much can happen between now and 'Trade Month' and too much water to go under the bridge. But it's gathering traction none the less.
