To be honest I'm quite astounded at how so many Geelong supporters are already querying caddy.

It may just be a classic case of overrating our own but caddy has shown much, much more than horlin smith, Guthrie, schroder, smedts etc (in u18s and afl), and I am not disrespecting any of those players.

The only young players that are probably ahead of him are Duncan bundy and menzel (who are all walk up starters to our 18 IMO) and that is mainly because they are 1 year (2 years if u take his injured first season into account) ahead of him.

Caddy was the best pure mid in his draft after swallow. He is big, strong with a combination of poise and skill. Very good overhead and kicks a goal a game. Apart from selwood (and maybe Duncan) we lack big A grade young pure mids on our list. Caddy was therefore the ideal trade target. Wells seems to agree.

He may not have had the best year ever last year but that is totally within reason (no preseason, first real year, never really wanted to be there and he was one of the most relied upon players from his whole team of 19 yr olds!)

I can't wait to see all you non-believers embrace this kid next year. The kid will be a gun and will be our premiere mid with selwood for the next 5-10 yrs.

On a side note, I have this feeling Duncan is going to turn into something special next year (josh Kennedy style).

The thing is, It's because we have such a great run with raising our own that I think we overate our kids so much. We traded in Caddy,Rivers and Hmac and in all those threads were fellow supporters saying that it was a waste because we had "X" waiting in the VFL.

Obviously the club disagrees and that's why they where traded in the first place.

I like the fact we are trying to plug holes rather then bottoming out. All are quality too and best 22 assuming fit.

Duncan turning into something 'special'???
Were you overseas last year?

Duncan was awesome in 2012, really stood up.

I just think he's on the verge of stepping to even greater heights in 2013 to become one of our top few players with a chance of making AA.

I'd like to see him starting most games in the centre circle with selwood to provide that extra big body.

Something that goes underrated with Duncan is his ability to find someone free in close with a look away hb, very sj like.

Seems that Wells struck gold with Duncan and Menzel.
Mitch looks very much the total package as I thought he added consistent hardness to his game in 2012 , a sensational development as his finishing skills are very much in the elite category. With a bigger tank ( from another preseason) and his ability to find it and catch it he is primed to become another one of our A Graders - just love his work !

Was watching a bit of Foxtell the other day, so happened Geelong were playing and it was being mentioned Duncan had amassed 12 possessions for the quarter, and had kicked a goal.
I thought typical of him!

But, you're right, he's actually going to improve with further development, he could be a serious star 2013.

Not sure Duncan gets the appropriate accolades from the media and our rivals, happy for him to go under the radar

The Essendon v Cats game was on fox the other day so taped it and watched a bit the last night. Duncan is a massive cog in our side. In the second qtr he was everywere. His skills are always on and he can kick a goal. Big rap for him going forward.
