List Mgmt. Trade: Geelong trades Round One compensation and No. 55 selection to Gold Coast for Josh Caddy

bloody Melbourne ay!
Tanking!.......o_O you'd reckon a player would be kicking and screaming their way outta that place with a culture instilled into all players because of it.

I guess this now opens the door for Gysberts :(

Melbourne won't offer pick 4 for Caddy. He was taken at pick 7 in his draft, it would be paying serious overs to offer pick 4 with this year's strong crop. I think the only thing that could trump our flexible compo pick would be a top 10 pick, which I don't think any club will/should offer.

I trust Wells (check sig) but I just cant think why they want to hold off with the compo if the GC are willing to swap it for Caddy.
Although like Reg said, who is that dude?

There is another thread that suggests we would trade it to GWS for rights to Josh Kelly in the Mini Draft.

oh right, thanks :thumbsu:

It all seems new and unusual for us outsiders but it's all probably part of a script going to plan by all teams involved

I guess we'd rather not want to waste it on a kid who would prefer to play for another club.

Looking forward to a decent, fair, brutal hip and shoulder from Chappy to Caddy when we meet up.

Would rather we keep the compo tbh.

Caddy's reputation is rather his potential than his performance.

And seeing as GC are so extremely keen on our compo and we're so reluctant to let go of it, there must be something that we don't know that Wells and the Suns do. You'd think we'd get the next Gary Ablett with it, the way we're clinging onto it.

I'd rather get the next Gablett than an underdeveloped Suns mid any day.

Why wouldnt we want to trade it?
What does Wells know that we dont?!
It might be all part of list management. There is some good talent coming through next year as well and with a couple of guys likely to retire at the end of next year Geelong may want to load up in the 2013 draft.

Alternatively, getting a guy into the system might actually be a good thing. Sure he won't be available to play next year but he'll still be IN the Geelong system...be interesting to see how O'Meara and Crouch go next year at GCS and Adelaide.

Of course, at this stage we still have no idea as to the accuracy of the tweet; if his connections are to NM, they might just be muddying the waters.

So Caddy privately wants to go the Kangaroos but won't publicly demand where wants to go as long as he lands at one of a few clubs. But GC want to send him to Geelong for the compo and Geelong are saying "no" at this stage with the Roos offering their first pick.

The good news is that from Geelong's point of view, they know what the GC's starting point is and its what most people on here would have given up. It can only end up better.

Sounds like to me that Geelong are playing hardball and its all part of the game. I suspect that GC will come back offer something like a swap of later picks and get Geelong's compo. I can't see Geelong being that stubborn unless there is someone else in play which wouldn't surprise me.

If that tweet was correct and he has said he wants to go to North then I agree, I dont want to give anything for him.
It comes down to this, ANY player coming to us MUST buy in, MUST want to be part of the "Geelong Way", if not? Cya later.
I dont want someone who preferred to go elsewhere at the Cats because to me its clear he doesnt fit the "quality person" requirements.

Call it "The Justin Murphy Rule"

Agree 100%... Our club doesn't need any bullshit. Have complete faith in our recruiters and list managers, I can guarantee they know more than all of us combined about Caddy and draft prospects.
