Adams
Cooney
Longer
Hanley
Mumford
Yarran

Far out, if we could land those three we would be laughing... I'd gladly take even one of them. From a business perspective you'd have to think we'd be looking to shed something like Sewell, Hale/Bailey, Lowden, Ellis (on top of the expected retirements of Osborne and Guerra)

That's some seriously inept Salary cap management, Its there first finals series and they already struggling to fit everyone in.

Yep, It's not like they are Geelong.
Paying overs for someone.

Ideally, we land a free agent ala Cooney for knicks and trade for a Yarran/Hanley-type for a draft pick rather than trading anyone out.

Reece Conca is an excellent player in the making. As Dipper has said if the Tigers cant hold onto him it is criminal - would be an amazing get but would have to think highly highly unlikely.

I am not as desperate to trade for a young ruck. Won't get a return for several years and we already have Lowden who will come good in the next 2 seasons and Grimley will be an adequate pinch hitter.

A running back such as Hanley or Yarran would be absolutely ideal who can move into the centre square. I mean being able to alternate Yarran and Rioli fwd and back or through the midfield would be amazing. Yarran has shown some blistering form - would be silly not to go for him if he is available.

Taylor Adams looks too much of a plodder to me especially with Hallahan not far off.

I'm kinda surprised that no-one has brought up Kane Lucas.
Seems to have fallen out of favour with Carlton fans, 22 years old, #12 pick, surely there's something there.
If not, long shot but Mitchell Grigg from Adelaide. Very very unlikely seeing as he is a SA boy and playing in SA but left footer, young midfielder, heaps of composure (check out the Showdown game) and young (I think 19 or 20).

There is a reason Lucas isn't being talked up, he is the softest footballer in the league, can't ever lay a tackle and is scared of the contest, watch him closely and you'll understand why he infuriates Carlton supporters.

You're a good judge of football and footballers. Do you honestly want Yarran at Hawthorn when he's an Olympic champion downhill skier?

That's for sure, I would love him at the Hawks
Have only seen his draft year highlights and he aint a Griffen / Jack end to end mid based on what I saw at a quick glance. Happy to stand corrected though. Noticed he is out injured this week as have been meaning to watch him closely since the press said we were interested.

You guys know his style better - who is he like?

What is holding Lowden and to a lesser extent Grimley who has been impressive in stints in his three games from becoming best 22 players?

I realise that Bailey is your numero uno, and Ceglar has been used in his absence, whilst Roughead is the best 22 #2. Why can't these other guys break into the seniors? would they be looking to go elsewhere? if so, what would the Hawks look at for them?

I would welcome this. He is a gun

Birchall, Suckling, Hanley? I like it! :D:thumbsu:

Imagine having Hanley on the half back, wing/half forward position with his run and carry style of play. Would be a perfect fit for our team. For a player who has only taken up the game of Aussie Rules for about six years, his kicking is outstanding.

Damien Barrett suggested on the Footy Show last night that Pearce Hanley was close to agreeing to terms to stay at Brisbane.
Sorry to be a party pooper!

So he is coming to the hawks then. Great news !! :thumbsu::p

He reminds me of a combination between Mitchell and Selwood.
First and foremost he's an in under type, he's evasive and possesses a creative handball but like Mitchell he has an outside game, he's competent and classy by foot, he's courageous, hardworking runs straight lines like Selwood.
Re guarding his speed, he is average. He isn't in the plodder territory like Sewell Hodge Hallahan Lewis and Mitchell, nor is he in the fast category Jack, Griffin, Dangerfield etc, he's in the middle. He ran a 20 metre sprint in the 3 second category which places him in the Wingard category. He's not smooth mover across the ground and needs work on his arc to arc running. He ran 15.1 beep test -very good aerobic capacity. He's young.... like any other player, has plenty of things to work on and improve.
Most of all what I like is his leadership. If we are going through a midfield rebuild which i think we will be doing in the next year or 2, he is exactly the type of player we should be building the team around. He's a pure competitor.

Hawks 2014:

B: Gibbo. Lake. Duryea.
HB: Birchall, Schoey, Hanley
C: Cooney, Mitchell, Smith
HF: Cyril, Buddy, Hill
F: Gunston, Roughead, puops
Foll: Mumford, Hodgr, Adams
Int: Hale, Burgoyne, Lewis, Stratton

Not bad.

I think he looks better in a H&A game against a team which we are travelling well at, than against a team in the finals with maniac pressure and intensity. Having said that many of our so called stars seem to go missing in the past, really hope this year is different. Names like Hodge,Lewis,Roughead,Rioli,Bruest.
My point to Buddy Marvellous was if someone is willing to pay overs for Suckling then we could think about it. I mentioned both brown and black are retiring or near retirement so we do have someone like Hale or someone like hallahan / sewell type too many that we can offload if we were going to get a good athletic ruckman.

Also, I think before Birchall got injured he was doing similar to suckling, kicking a few long goals from beyond 50. It is all well doing it against teams who offer little resistance but in finals always more tough. I remember time when Suckling tried to it against collingwood a few years back and got knocked off easily. That is why chapman, bartel players have been great, in finals they stand up, have mental edge, take crucial marks, kich clutch goals.

There are number of players on our list who are tradeable, depends whether someone wants to pay overs or not. If someone wanted to offer O'Meara for both hallahan/sewell or Rioli for dangerfield type or a good young ruckman in the likes of Longer/Nicholls for a Hale (because they just don't have any focal point at front) and our young ruckman/KPP like Lowden/Grimley then you can think about it. Only examples, but just trying to make the point.

Alright.. this is way off topic but seeing as how we were already down the path I have to pull you up on a couple of things. Players having a bad final, does not = them going missing in finals. Cyril sparked us in 08 and without him, Hodge and Dew we have no 08 premiership so that ticks 2 of those players off your list of stars that seem to go missing. Cyril also played a HUGE role in us even getting to the GF last year. Without him in the prelim we were not playing that last Saturday in September. Breust is a young player that needs time to develop. We are blessed that he has come on the way he has but there is substitute for actual maturity and games when it comes to mental application in a big game. He will get that with time.

Roughead has been poor in finals and I am sure he will want to fix that this year.
