Matt Suckling for Billy Longer? i dont think some of you guys are appreciating how good players like suckling and whitecross were before their ACL injuries.

I don't think anyone has forgotten......what I think you're failing to realize is that you have to give up something of value to get something of value. Expecting a first round draft pick ruckman in return for peanuts isn't a reality. If we are interested, It will come down to how highly we rate Longer!

This is just an opinion, if we were to go down this path I'd be loathe to give up Whitecross, Suckling I think we can cover. We have a quantity of Ruckman already, but if you take a deeper look it ain't too flash.
Bailey - is being injury managed.
Hale- he's 30.
Lowden Can't get a crack at it, looks last in line judging by the fact Ceglar is getting a game.
Grimely - Forward - 2nd ruck option.
Ceglar- look a long way off, which doesn't bode well for Lowden.

Lowden isn't a long way off. He's a bit off, but not far away. He's just not getting a game because the club is being cautious with him and the reason Ceglar was chosen is probably because his body is more AFL ready than what Lowden's is.

Each to their own......I think he's a fair way off. In regards to body Lowden is a fair way more developed than what Ceglar is........ AFL ready wise.

Suckling is definitely worth less than Longer.

Whether you think he's avg or not is beside the point, he was a top 10 pick (pick8) and rated the best ruckman in the 2011 draft. Effectively what you're offering in return is a downgrade to around pick 19 and a bit player for a top 10 pick with 2 years of physical and football development already in him....I think that's actually more than what Sukling's going rate would be.

It really depends what Brisbane want, an already established player or another draft pick, the bit player is nothing more than a cherry.

With Longer, you are paying for potential more than anything. Who knows if you'll get a star or another Robbie Warnock

If Buddy leaves throw a contract at Martin. Pay 650k for 4 years. Overpaying him in the first couple years but the kid is set to break out. Young inside midfielder who kicks goals and has that extra burst of pace. He is everything we need. Once his tank gets bigger he'll stop going missing late in games.

I like Zac Clarke too, but Sandilands is close to the end and Griffin is coming off an ACL and Clarke has a bigger upside than Grif. Without knowing his contract status, they aren't going to let him go if they can control it.
Clarke is very similar to what Luke Lowden will offer too.

My problem with Martin (apart from the potential off-field issues) is that the game is becoming more and more about running ability. Seriously, there are so many blokes going around who are considered "A graders" who B graders on ability who can run all day. This is only going to increase if they limit the interchange. And Martin is just not that sort of player.

As for rucks. I wouldn't spend another draft pick or trade on a ruck under 25. With free agency just get into the ear of guys who are becoming free agents and then pay overs in salary to get them. You can afford to pay $2-300k more to entice them with the salary cap space saved in not having a bunch of 20 year old potential rucks on the list. Seriously look at how many rucks we've had on our list over the last 5 or 6 years.

At the end of the day if the list management decision is to get our hands on an A grade ruckman (even if he's still developing) you have to give something to get something and we probably don't have anything else that Brisbane want that we'd be prepared to part with.

Yeah but you know what? Every single one of our 60k members, me included, have Hawthorn coloured glasses duct taped firmly to our faces. And as such I don't really want to see Whitecross traded out. Despite what knobjockeys like Ross Oakley may tell you, footy is not a business.

If we have to give up quality to get quality, why not just keep quality? Especially in an area we're looking to replenish.
