Mega Thread Trade Period: Lets get that delisted guy. He could be good, yeah?

Haha ... Believe me bro, I have HUGE reservations about this bloke too!
.. But I've heard it from a few people .. Yarran wants be to a hawk, got along much better with Rats than he ever has with Mick ...

I 100% agree .. He struggles to put 3 good games together .. Let alone a finals campaign

Yeah he just isn't consistent, and on his off days he is a liability. He would really have to fight for a place in our first 22 in my opinion. I think the little money we have left in the cap would be better going somewhere else, personally.

Obviously Hawthorn & Sylvia would have to come to terms with each other... it would be either Sylvia takes a huge paycut to what he would be worth at our club or forget about it. It would be a more him wanting to come than an us chasing him. Far out... Colin Sylvia has been at Melbourne all his career so far, what he hasn't had is a proper pre-season, proper coaching.... etc... it's Melbourne's staff who I believe has made him lazy & the quality of players around him & them losing all the time doesn't help motivate players... I think competitions for spots would help him get to his full potential, about two years ago everyone was saying he will someday take the league by storm, he will not do that by staying at Melbourne. He needs the challenge of what a Premiership contender team has. It's not a high risk... if he doesn't perform he can go to BH... we can win without him, just saying if we added him it could just make us more dynamic & dangerous... he could be the Ryan O'Keefe we once looked for.
Robert Harvey played with shit players twice in his career & both times they built a team around his heart & work rate. Nick Reiwoldt puts his heart into absolutely every step he takes for his club knowing full well they'll lose by 50 most weeks. Shane Crawford ran 'til he spewed through the early-mid 2000's. Footy didn't make sense, all we did was kick backward & sideward yet he put his body & heart on the line every week when he knew damn well we'd get belted. These are players that had a choice. It wasn't their turn but they went anyway - every time. They set the example & the 41 other guys on the list rose around them.

Why the f*** should Colin Sylvia, Jack Watts or any other high-priced baby get a free ride? Football, like life, is a game of choices. Why is it these guys need to be surrounded by champions & 50+ points in front to start reaching their potential & looking like all-stars? You're missing the fundamentals about what makes Hawthorn, Hawthorn. Where is Sylvia's Courage? His Sacrifice? His Endurance? If he's so f'en good then why is he not putting his heart & soul on the line for his Mates? He's waiting for a better deal; for someone to come along & offer him what he refuses to go out & demand for himself. I promise you that Colin Sylvia would be in Brown & Gold (or Black & White) if he had the heart to back up his talent but he just doesn't.

Nobody has to do anything. Everyone has a choice. Colin Sylvia is playing where he wants to play or he would've made a stand & someone would've paid 2x1st Rounders for him 2 years ago.

In saying that, I'd give that Yarran a run

I'd rather Sylvia than Yarran.

Plus I'd much rather trade with Melbourne (pushovers) than Malthouse at Carlton. MM will want a top 5 pick for a squib like Yarran... tell 'im e's dreamin'.

Sylvia over yarran. Why? We don't need another small forward. Besides who cares about Sylvia's attitude or whatever. It's all about winning brother! U think the miama heat cared about lebron and how he loves himself?

Wake up and smell the coffee... If Sylvia wants to be a hawk then we'll take him. He is a gun. Once he comes to hawthorn his attitude will change.

saying that, I think Nathan jones would be a good trade. Trade Sewell and perhaps shiels, for Sylvia or jones and a higher draft pick.

Ok straight swap for Colin Sylvia is pushing it lol. My point is we play better without buddy, look at the stats. F*ck the stats just watch how we play without him, with more fluidity. Why should we pay million bucks a year he ain't worth it. Ye he can be awesome and light it up, but he is too inconsistent. It's a case of which buddy will turn up...it's sickening. I gotta say buddy is passing it off more this year. I just think in the bigger picture its better if he goes. Period. It would allow us to pick up 2 gun midfielders to replace Sewell and eventually Mitchell. Btw, Mitchell is the best! If hodge is the heart, Mitchell is the brain.

P.s. I didn't mean to offend anyone about the straight swap comment. Just wanted to make a point. Always hawthorn!

.

I am not as desperate to trade for a young ruck. Won't get a return for several years and we already have Lowden who will come good in the next 2 seasons and Grimley will be an adequate pinch hitter.

I think trading for young rucks is a waste of time, such a lotto.

In the FA landscape we can just top up with mature, established rucks forever

Agree totally with most of what you said about Sylvia. Not sure why others think he will change if he plays for Hawks. The only player from Melbourne, if available and price is right, that will be a good fit for Hawks is Frawley.

A new development emerging in the trade period could be the exodus of Essendon players should the club be found guilty of administering banned substances to it's players knowingly or unknowingly.
Not saying that the HFC would be interested in any/many of them however it is an interesting twist that may come into play come October's trade period.
Buyer beware should it unfold....but a very unfair position for any EFC player wanting out that may have so many question marks over their short term playing future.

this trade period is massive for the club in terms of sustained success, i think last year knowing this years draft was a midfielders draft and lacked talls we took the 2 best available with our picks with the ageing midfield being able to hold up for the year , now if buddy goes and we get a round 1 compo i'd love to see the club finally use both round 1 draft picks and pcik up some quality mids which everyone knows we need and mayb try get a colin slyvia if hes coming cheap , i think we would be better positioned next year if we did that then what our current set up is with anderson, hill, hallahan and langford all having another pre season under there belts, not saying i want buddy gone either but i just think he willl go but our 2014 team could potentially look like this with an extra 1 mill in the cap for a better pool of free agencies next year eg. a gibbs or andrew walker

duryea lake gibson
burgoyne stratton birchall

smith mitchell suckling

savage shoenmakers or grimley anderson
rioli roughhead bruest

bailey hodge lewis

with sewell, hale , gunston, shies, pop, hill, whitecross , hallahan , lowden , langford , (woodward fingers crossed) plus potential draft picks looking for a spot

We play better without Buddy?
Now I know why your banana is smooth........ Stop rubbing it!
In big games, we are soooo much more dangerous with Buddy standing up forward, sooooo much better!
This year, more than ever, we've learnt to spread the inside 50 targets, but we still have the excitement of a Buddy onslaught at any time
Opposition teams are more worried about our forward line now than ever before, and you want to weaken and lessen its impact?

I think we are well set for talls now even if Buddy leaves.
Next year's draft is apparently better than this years again so the timing is right to draft midfielders over the next 2 years.
It will be interesting to see which way the club goes come trade/draft time. Do we trade in another mature player from another club or possibly even look to upgrade our 1st round pick somehow. Time will tell.
As it stands the only 2 players I'd like to see us have a crack at via trade would be one of those that you mentioned in Andrew Walker (not likely, particularly if Buddy stays) and Taylor Adams (probably too many other clubs ahead of us as far as what they can offer in a trade).

As for the draft there are a couple of midfielders that I'd like to see fall to our pick but you can never quite tell who will still be there so late in the first round. With any luck one of these guys will still be available at our pick.

K. Koladjashnij (Birchall type)
Dom Sheed (classy without being blessed with pace)
Nathan Freeman (inside burst player with pace and elite kicking)
Blake Acres (utility with shoulder issues)

As for any recycled Essendon players, there are none that I'd realistically be keen on.

Forgive me for deviating slightly from the topic.

i defiantly agree with what you have said i was all for taylor adams aswell and i still am if he decides to choose us as a destination but our ladder position and players we have to let go puts us behind the pack i think and gws will be asking for a bit if he leaves

would love a couple of the players you have listed and i think thats the good thing about this years draft those players listed could go between wce first pick (acres or sheed) all the way to ours ,would also throw in names like salem , dunston and dumont who suit our needs only takes one of these players to come on quickly next year e.g and ollie wines or nick vlaustin to make our team even better

I don't agree with you that we are a better team without Buddy but the club also has to consider what else he brings to the club. He is a role model. Kids are growing up watching him and aspiring to play like him. Kids are supporting the hawks because they like Buddy, which results in increased revenue in the club due to extra membership sales and number 23 guernseys sold. Personally I think he is worth almost every penny. We would probably make all that money back with the sales he generates, and even though it takes a fair whack out of the salary cap I still think we should keep him here for as long as possible, for the good of the club as a whole.

Frawley is a FA next year, and I sincerely hope we make an offer.

Keep an eye on Tom Ledger if you're watching the Saints game. Kills it in the VFL for the Zebras and Saints supporters cannot believe that he hasn't been given a chance til now. (They were thinking the same about Curren earlier in the year and that kid is a gem). Speculation is that Watters doesn't like him as a player, but Lyon did. Inside midfielder with a bit of pace about him.

I did find it funny some posters on here earlier in the year claiming Whitfield would be a Hawk very soon. Pipedreams.
Go to the North board and find the thread from last year about how David Swallow was going to end up at North in 2013 and then laugh in amazement as some of their posters go into full Essendon-like denial when it was announced he re-signed with GC.
