My real reservations with Jagga is his body type.

He's got as much girth as Gumby. Doesn't have an athletic body type for a professional footballer, more like a gymnast or lucha libre wrestler on mexico. Gives me Thomson Dow vibes.

For a bull midfielder, how does he compete in the centre against players like Rowell, Bont, Petracca, Oliver? He needs size, but five pre seasons in, I see no size on Dow, so my hopes on our fitness team are minuscule
This is why Lalor is on our radar.

Can someone tell me why Travaglia is not top 5? I watched all the vic country matches and he looked as good as any. Great mark, quick, good decision maker, good disposal and just looks a natural footballer. If we got this bloke at any pick I’d be happy. He’s also played midfield in a couple of CFL games and was very good. Plays with flair.
I agree he is a gun. Also a relative of my family and they expect him to go at around pick 15. He gets involved in all aspects of the play and plays mid from time to time in the bush.

if we can get a pick from carlton or brisbane we might be able to snag him hopefully
he looks a fantastic prospect

Jagga - Too Small
Smith - Go home factor
Smilie - Overated

Half of you will find something negative about whoever we chose first up.

Gotta back the recruiters in.
Do you mean Draper? Smith lives next door to the club just about

Ok someone give me their take on Draper v Lalor v Smillie. Given we will have the next 2 1st picks as we are bottom material isnt Smillie a unique pick with size ?

Judging by your poster name you would be old enough to remember what we went through in the late 80's and 90's?
I was referring (with sarcasm) to the bad old days when we kept getting spoons and drafting duds. Yes, much more unlikely to happen now in a much more professional environment.
Still doesn't mean we will draft a good player but they will end up being the 4th, 5th best and won't the media and oppo supporters love to remind us of that at every opportunity while having a good laugh.
We were the joke of the competition for decades, I for one don't want to risk ever being back in that territory again.

The odds of selecting the best and ultimately most highly regarded player at pick 1 in any draft are pretty slim so I wouldn't worry about all the inevitable noise around that. If we take pick 1 at the draft and get an elite player we win, end of. People going nuts trying to compare say Walsh with whoever else is in form from that draft at any given time and saying Rozee/Butters/Rankine etc etc are better than Walsh doesn't alter the fact Walsh is an elite player and a very good selection at pick 1.

It is just as simple as that. If we get an elite player we have done well, if we don't then we have either been unlucky or not selected so well. Expecting the number 1 selection to be the best player in every draft is like expecting the number 1 ranked player to win every golf tournament. It is just not realistic.

Club is going to play it safe, aren't we?

We are going to move a few late picks to get probably Brisbane's 1st rounder (end up with pick 18)

We will have picks 1,18,21,34,39

Then watch some other team do a massive deal with Gold Coast and grab their 2 first rounders while we re-sign Baker, keep Rioli & Bolton.

The issue I think is that because of the evenness and depth of the draft; especially within the 20-25 picks is that it sounds as if a lot of teams want to try and trade into the first early/ second round of the draft.

It’ll therefore be a sellers market and every chance those additional picks we are looking for would cost a hefty price.

The depth of this draft is such that even at that 39 pick (which will obviously move due to F/S and NGA players) there will still likely be an opportunity to get a player that some teams and recruiters would have possibly 15-20 range.

I’m probably going against the grain here, and I love the depth of talent in this draft, but I’m not forcing Rioli or Shai out unless the offer is too good to refuse; which if I’m honest not sure it will be.

If clubs over-value the draft picks then other clubs will benefit from selling those draft picks. You just want to be on the right side of the value, whichever way the market goes.

Realise Draper has go home factor but if he’s good you get overs should that ever eventuate , our history is strong in keeping players . 3y guaranteed helps too
I do worry about smiths size how big is his old man and mum wasnt thete a pic somewhere

Don't think we'll be trading our first this season. Campo twins are shaping up to be bid on around that 25-35 mark for Ben and Lucas further back than that.

Think we'll be looking to add a first round kid or two if we can this year to group up with Cody Walker and a couple of NGA kids on their way over the next 2 years as the next young core for our team.

Would be shattered if we did and missed out on Travaglia by doing so too, he'd be a great pick for us as a side who lack speed across the park.
