I think we need an A grade midfielder and fullback if we want to be a premier sooner. Unfortunately trading that in and targeting FA is challenging. It's not beyond us doing it though. It means using up a first rounder again, at least.

If the past season and a bit have shown us anything it's that you need multiple goal kicking options and to be capable of kicking big scores. We're going into tonight's game with a forward line of Dixon, Wingard, Young, Westhoff, Neade Stewart and Amon. In all likelihood 2, maybe 3, of these guys will go goalless tonight. More dangerous forwards would be right at the top of my priority list.

It might even be the right time to make a play for that Damien Hardwick type. Ben Mcglynn anyone?

They need ro be goal kickers with manic defensive pressure though. Especially the smalls.

The likes of Puopolo and Rioli are not just goal kickers.

We seem to only have one or the other.

Butch is actually one who can do both. Neade is occassionally. Shulz is when hes fit.

Crow supporting mate of mine says on their board that Grigg is Port bound this year.

I liked him in the few games i've seen him play & the idea of getting a ready made big bodied legit midfielder with a decent kick to the club for peanuts, should be a similar delisted free agent pick up to Moore last year.

Great. Another slow lazy player :thumbsu:

..sorry, didn't realise.
Bring him in then and watch the goalfest.
We are talking about kicking the ball between the two tall posts then? Just asking.
He's been playing well in the SANFL. Had 1 bad game vs Norwood.

But kicked 4 vs Wests, 4 vs Crows, 3 vs North. Hoping he can do something today vs Centrals.

At least he's not a midget built like a teenager who can't kick 20m without turning it over, watching our side lined up against Geelong's at the last post was comical how tiny we are.

Would be an upgrade on at least 15 of our current listed players, including a number in our best 22 which is an indictment on our list management considering he's not even best 25 at the Crows.

Most teams make around 5 or 6 changes to their list each year. Schulz and Stewart appear to be in their final seasons at Port. Maybe Stewart will get rookied. Carlile may slip out of the best 22 through the course of the year, really depends on Clurey. Young, Gray and Ah Chee are playing for their spots with Port. Hewett and Houston, well it is up to them. Krak and Snelling may be in the upgrade category. Mitchell is done. So with Schulz, Mitchell and Stewart, there is still plenty of room for a big change and that may well be on the cards if our current output continues.

I think a burst inside player who can get away from the contest is a must. We saw last night that Gray, Hartlett and Boak are going to need some help as they can't continuously get banged up in the middle.

I would rather we not go for any big name trades this year. What we should do is aim to have two first round draft picks. Currently we have one. Trade out an under performing big name player to get the other. See if we can snag an early to mid second round pick by trading out another player too. It would send a message to the rest of our group, and allow us to bring in some strong new talent to develop.

lol, we couldn't unload him quick enough. If you want a slow witted, one paced plodder who can't get to the contest and get the ball, which in turn negates his one skill, kicking, by all means. 2nd rounder. Cos everyone is worth a 2nd rounder.

Want Lyons. AFL clearance who is a natural centreman/forward. No for Grigg

I suspect this year we trade our first rounder for Lachie Neale. They're going to have a cleanout at the end of the year and will go to the draft, will try to get as many picks as they can get. Massive upgrade on all our sub 180cm players but is losing our first rounder for almost 3 years straight really worth it? I don't think so
