From the footage I've seen Hayes looks like he'd need a couple of years to build the frame to be a KPD, he's not quick and his skills are pretty ordinary. Unless others have seen vision that contradicts that, I'm not keen on him to be taken that early. Added to that his brother will likely want out soon or very soon, so the brother thing won't be conducive to him being happy to stay here.
I'll be interested to see as to how many clubs enquire about Hayes.

He’s a good player but alone id value him around pick 12-18 on the trade table. Package that up with a 20ish pick for a top 5 I’d do.

Houston plays a very easy role in our side and can be replaced. Yes he’s a good player but to get good picks we would have to give something good too (not players like DBJ).

Anyway, I don’t see Houston going anywhere or being on the table so pointless really but top 5 picks are priceless if we nail them long term.
Losing Houston would be nuts. He's one of our best players, while he's great in the backline he can play mid and on the wing and he's a gun kick for goal. He's also settled in Adelaide.

Houston signed a 5 year contract at the start of this season. He's not going anywhere.

I love Houston.

Loved him upset and crying after we lost that final. He’s not laughing with the opposition like TJ or his coach.

He’s skilled, has football IQ, bleeds for the club.

Why the **** would we think of trading this guy?

So everyone has said we need a small forward, midfield depth and a tall KPD.

Small forward - does close fit the bill? Sexton also mentioned. Still think Breust would be a solid get. Ian ‘Bobby’ Hill an option? Cottrell?

Mids - Dunkley, JHF, Ely Smith, have all got a mention.

KPDs - Mackay isn’t realistic. Melican from Sydney? Miller from Richmond? Logue?

Personally I don't want to give Ken ammunition via trades so he can make the top 8 and get an extension at the expense of our future. I'm more inclined to take these positions in the draft and roll with it. That will set us up well for the next coach. We'd be selling the farm to trade players in

I’m not actually suggesting we do trade him.

Only that he’s the only player with value that I would be willing to part with if we pushed for a top 5 pick.

But yeh, he’s not going anywhere and we’re not going to push him out at all.

Any talk about trading players is mostly pointless. Players dictate when and where they want to be traded, not clubs. It looks like Houston, DBJ, Bonner and whoever else people are suggesting are very happy at the club.

Chad Wingard and Peter Ladhams have entered the chat.
It's mostly the case that it is player driven. The Wingard case was mutual.

Probably the other example was Howard. He had a fat contract from St Kilda on the table.

I don't think either case was similar at all to the discussion around sending random players to the gold coast. Particularly players who are playing in the first 22 on longish contracts.
