But Bowes on 650k+7 with steak knives in return seems like a start the car deal

Bowes is really worth what AFL average? Slightly below?
So its pick 7 and a player on 300k too much for 2 years.

I cant wait to vomit watching Geelong or someone make out like bandits

I like how when Port wanted to dump the entireity of Lobbes contract to carlton with a pick the AFL where like

Uhmmm you cant do that

Now its the Gold coast wanting to do it and it seems like a great idea

Yes, it's like GC has maxed out all their credit cards, so the AFL Bank has offered them another one.

I thought we were chasing Bowes, not they selling him and 7 for a salary dump. If that is the case you would be stupid not to. Once here we could extend the contract so he still gets his money but over a longer journey ensuring his future career stability.

If we could snare Rioli, Bowes and Graham, Pick 8 and Amon Compo, and 7 on top that is a splendid offseason. - However I am only buying Graham and Bowes at the right price, ie salary Dumps for third round selections.

Out Hayes and the second rounder we received for him, pick 55ish and 58ish this year, next years second and next years third.

As much as I love Hayes and what he could become, to flip him into what could be Graham, Bowes and 2 of Bus/Hayes/Pou/Mackenzie/Humphries/Wardlaw would be a massive coup. 7 and 8 could net us a game changing Mid and pull the trigger on a Key Back, or take two very good mids, or two very Good key backs.

Last year's trade of Will Brodie was the head scratching forerunner of what the AFL has now fully endorsed. There has to be something traded for Bowes, albeit something worth far less than the player plus pick 7...

So another Vic metro lad exposed to maximum midfield minutes scores a Larke medal and is touted as Number 1 in the land at this years draft. Can there be some bolters for a change? You know.. some late developing lads out there who have been starved of opportunities with no limelight or last name who can surprise the selectors and competition at large? Any gems or what?

300K is not a salary cap dump, it is not even above the average wage.
You get pick Seven for taking on his massive back-ended salary.
It does not matter is Bowes even plays a game, the glitering prize is Pick Seven.

We have the space and Charlie's Cairns connection

We have a plethora of HBs and Wingers and he's our worst imo. Free up some cap space, give up someone who isn't as valuable for us but could be to them. Rather give up Bonner than another draft pick
Bonner can not defend and does not get his own ball.
A lovely kick the same as Farrell, we should not be playing both in the same team.

Bowes isn't coming to Port, guys.

We really need to start setting our expectations for this trade period to be a bit more realistic. It'll end up being Rioli for Amon compo and perhaps a couple of minor pick swaps involving Hayes. Maybe Narkle as a DFA on top.

I don't think they would, my guess would be a second rounder of some description, interesting to see what happens.

The origins of the salary dumping are from American sports, those who know more add whatever you can. In the nba the idea is, we've got this big contract that we don't want and you have salary cap space. So we have to pay a premium and give you a first round pick, without expecting much in return, just the position or flexibility of getting off of the contract.

I hope that makes sense.

No, they do not require a future pick.
They need to look after the future of King, Rowell and Anderson; hence, urgent need to reduce their 2024 salary cap.

Some talk Frederick wants out, and that GC have some interest.

Maybe Freddie and suitable draft picks to GC. We get 7. We convince Bowes to go to a Vic club instead of us, so we can use him as a trade to get someone like Graham, NWM, et al.
Why would a Vic club accept the on trade of Bowes and presumably his contract but without the bonus of the pick which we would keep? Why wouldn't said Vic club do the deal direct with gc for Bowes and get that pick? Or are you suggesting we pay Bowes contract whilst he plays for a Victorian team and keep the pick?

Surely someone at the club can see that the Amon compo for Rioli is significant overs? Anyone?

Or are we just desperate to land anyone, regardless of cost and baggage?
This is my worry. Desperate to land someone, when in reality now that we missed out on Dunkley to bolster the midfield, Rioli on his own doesn’t bring us any closer to a premiership next year, so it strikes me as kind of pointless paying up for him.

Agree, he may not be coming to Port but we should do our due diligence and make an enquiry.
There is no report he would like to live in Melbourne; albeit he may end up there.

He is from Cairns in far North Queensland, and he would have grown up admiring Charlie.
Hopefully, Charlie can get on the blower and exploit any hometown connections.

Would we have any interest in Caleb Poulter ? I liked him in his draft yr but have seen him at all this yr. Could be part of a Hayes deal if we are going down that path.

We're desperate and West Coast knows it. Dunkley choosing Brisbane was a great result for West Coast.
Yes, Amon compo for Rioli is significant overs: I do not expect it to be the deal.
WCE and Gold Coast have both expressed interest in Freddy.

Other dominos will fall that will facilitate the Rioli trade.
I predict the trade will be; a pick in the 50s + a player, say, Fredericks.

Yes , flawed logic; Bowes has a two left in his contract.
The bonus prize pick seven is for matching his two year contract.

There may be room for some argy-bargy, for example, the Pies are still paying Treloar 300K each year to put his boots on for the dogs.

I doubt we could convince Bowes to come here. He isn't a best 22 player. He will move to a club that can offer him a spot in the 22 and probably a contract extension.

And GC would ask for some future picks in return which we don't have. I think he will end up at Essendon or potentially Hawthorn. Maybe the Eagles.
