We're sliding. We finished 11th, both Hinkley and Jonas have publicly said they don't know why, the only thing we have changed is Carr for Monty and Goldsack for Lokan. We aren't climbing, we'll be sliding. Also, when crowds are not there early in the season, the players that still believe, which I believe is minimal, will start to doubt.
Hinkley and Jonas saying they don't know why is a euphemism for a lot of it has to do with injuries but it is considered whinging to blame a bad season on injuries so better to look a bit bewildered and say we will leave no stone unturned to find out why.

Consider if we had only 4 of these 8 players available uninjured for the whole season:

Fantasia
Lycett
Jones
Sinn
Duursma
Dixon
McKenzie/Clurey
Bergman

not to mention what impact Wine's atrial fibrillation had on his season. A difference of only 5% makes a tremendous difference to elite athletes playing at that level. Gray has admitted to playing with a crumbly knee all year as well after being injured early in the season and was inexplicably then forced to play much of the season in the midfield instead of up forward.

We may not have finished in the top 4, but we almost certainly have played finals.

Don't know how but Geelong supposedly with a war chest (large salary cap space) to offer too
Look at the annual Gross Player Earnings data the AFL release every year in their annual report and they would have very little space in their cap EACH YEAR.

95% is compulsory. So ASA cap + Salary cap is about $14.7m and 95% means a 5% non spend is $740k, so Geelong may have a "war chest" of $200k-$300k a year of under spends. Unless they have done that 3 years in a row they don't have much in the bank. If they did do it each year, then they have a 1 year war chest of $600k to $900k.

Put trade radio on for the first time some nuffie rings up what can we get for Rioli his premiership player underrated played very well in a bottom side.
Silvani I would look at Goargie ffs can't 1 dumb campaigner just say his 28 has been done for using a sports drink in a urine test suspended.
Then gets caught trying to take an once of weed onto a ******* plane I think you should take whatever you can get 🤷
We're going to get talked up as big winners for 'only' giving away the Amon pick for Rioli. And nobody will ever mention that he missed 2 years and is quite a risky trade, especially with our other small forward missing the entire season injured.

Lycett sucks, McKenzie and Clurey both suck, Jones/Sinn/Duursma/Bergman are kids who aren't yet having big impacts on games whether they're injured or not, and Fantasia is always injured. Dixon is really the only name on that list worth worrying about.

And not having Dixon lead to Finlayson and Marshall working together to play Marshall into form. Had Dixon been in all year, the "bomb it long to Charlie" plan stays and Marshall is close to delist or trade right now.

Don't shoot the messenger but it is not a lay down miser; if Pickett left the Dees to gome home; well, his home is WA not SA.
Watch the Perth clubs come hard for him next year.
Not so sure about that , his mum is Pt. Lincoln/Adelaide with possibly a little bit of Kalgoorlie and his fathered from Murray Bridge . Byron senior and his brother Norm were from W.A but moved to Lincoln in the late eighties to play for Mallee Park , Byron junior was Lincoln/Melbourne/ Adelaide

Red flag of all red flags.
On a scale of showing you can be trusted going forward.

Ask for clauses yourself
<daylight>
Accept clauses from club
<the brain power of Homer SimpsonDeGoey>
Refuse clauses

Someone else will be dumb enough to offer him a contract. Otherwise he'll crawl back and they'll do some 'the club gave me more details and it wasn't what I thought' bullshit.

Now, with our 'no dickheads / drug addicts' policy apparently out the window, on top of overpaying for Rioli, now I have to worry we'll chase DeGoey, until we get a clear statement we aren't. If I wasn't laughing at how it's come to this, I'd be crying instead.

Ollie Henry was drafted with a first round pick two years ago and has done more than most other first rounders from his draft, why would he not be worth a first round pick now?
Cause the pies haven’t even offered him a contract while chasing guys like Frampton and Ian hill.

How on earth can Geelong afford to take on Bowes contract!?
They shouldn’t be able to as it stands.

I Imagine they’ll redraw the contract and spread those dollars out over more years

Man, if we had a better run with injury we might have been able to reach the storied heights of 7th and getting knocked out in finals? Woah.
If Selwood and Hawkins both pull thin pin it would create some room room in their cap.
In reality list managers already work years ahead.

They would already have factored in Selwood and hawkins either quitting or getting reduced pay at this age, and other contracts written in the past 1-3 years would have been factored in to increase now.

For instance Cameron’s contract for sure would have factored in increasing as those players decreased. Henry’s Blicavs and so on. Those guys all had to get paid and weren’t getting bull dollars while hawkins Selwood were getting them.

So do you prefer the scenario where we are on the slide down to the cellar depths from 11th and don't play in finals with at least hope of being the last team standing in September?

Woah.

I'd rather finish 17th and get pick 2 and a new coach than either of those 2 options TBH.

* I couldn't quite bring myself to say spoon.

It's fine to look at the injuries in a vacuum, but everyone has injuries, and if you think that the gap between where the team finished this season and winning a premiership is solely down to injuries, then any discussion on that is futile.

Forget making finals, this club was expected to contend for a flag and injuries aside, they came no where close.
When we had "all those injuries" early in the year which we heard regurgitated ad nauseum, Geelong had 3 AFL listed players available in their two's at one stage yet managed to become premiers. Oh, but poor Donuts. He is a joke.

JJ from the dogs has turned down an offer from the G.C I'm sure we can find a HBF for them🤔

Signed a 2 year deal with the Dogs

If Rioli is anything earlier than a 3rd rounder, just get the Evans guy from Geelong and work towards Pickett the following year.
We might end up getting a second round pick for Amon.
If that’s the measuring stick Rioli for a third round is almost overs.
For once port need to stand firm and say 3rd round or no deal will take our chances in the draft.
It’s becoming embarrassing how this club bends over
