End up with pick 7 for trading in a good player. AFL is a perfectly balanced game with no exploits.
I could understand the pick if they took him on his current contract. However renegotiating the contract meaning has less impact on their salary cap makes the extra pick redundant IMO

Skinner was main list as DFA. So 37 down to 33, with 5 rookies down to 3.

Rioli Sav JHF & Evans takes us back to 37.

If Bonner & Frederick don't go, I think Williams & maybe Lord will get the delisted & re-rookied treatment.
Cheers.

We will still have to take 3 selections in the draft, some more movement is likely.

Does Teakle get a rookie spot as a mid season selection or main list?

We delisted and re-rookied both Woodcock and Grundy when they were contracted, too. It's not a barrier.
North delisted and re-rooking Polec did not stop Polly earning his $cracker,
Until injured, he played a total two games for North this year (and his contract still runs for next year).

MSD picks are rookies I'm pretty sure. Our rookies are Teakle, Dumont & Pasini.

Dumont is the only one without a contract, which is a worry given he is actually in our best 25 I think.

Esava is a speculative late option. He's 24, has not been able to perform at AFL level yet and is now trying a new role. He's at best a late 3rd rounder.
Maybe, but geebung are probably more aware than most of our deficiencies, and even though it is unknown if he will make the grade as a kpd his flexibility in other areas will have some say in his trade value, which I suspect will be an early 3rd rounder at worst.

Have we actually been linked to Cockatoo, or is this just posters speculating based on his family connection? Would be great to get him into the club.

I asked the question based on family connections and the twins coming to the AFLW team.

No inside info.

Our last pre season draft pick was Sam Colquhoun in December 2012 in the "2013" PSD. Since then the number of draftees taken in the PSD are;

2013 1 Jeb Lamb GWS
2014 1 Jason Tutt Carlton
2015 No PSD as no clubs with eligible slots on their list said they would participate
2016 No PSD as no clubs with eligible slots on their list said they would participate
2017 1 Cam O'Shea Carlton took him from Frankston not Port
2018 No PSD as no clubs with eligible slots on their list said they would participate
2019 2 Jack Martin Carlton and Michael Hartley Essendon
2020 1 Jackson Hately Adelaide
2021 2 Rory Thompson Gold Coast re drafted him and Luke Nankervis Adelaide

The 2 bolds were walk them to the PSD after trade disputes meant deals weren't done in trade period. So Rioli walking to the PSD scenario, is a rare thing and shows WCE aren't realistically dealing for him.

Was thinking about Geelong, GCS & the Bowes/Pick 7 scenario.

In their pick swap with Brisbane, they gave up their 2023 2nd rounder as part of their overpay for 25. But, this now means:
  • They can't swap 2023 first for 7 & Bowes
  • They now have no 2023 second to swap for 7 & Bowes
  • GCS have to accept Geelong's 2023 3rd (pick in the 50s) for Bowes and 7

OR

Pull pick 7 from the table, because Geelong has tried to be sneaky.

OR, try get a future second for Ratugolea.

Hence Brisbane and Geelongs involvement in the mega trade spoken about. Since Brisbane have 2x future seconds it makes sense they'd be involved

I hope the other clubs are pressuring the AFL to ensure that the Cats pay Bowes his $800, 000 for the next 2 years. Otherwise the salary dump, and its associated perks, should not be allowed. Geelong have made it very clear that they have kept an eye on Bowes the last few years, and were contemplating trading for him in the normal way. You'd think Gold Coast would be able to fit half of Bowes salary in there cap without having to sacrifice pick 7.

Can anyone rationally explain why we didn't get an extra motion to trade our future first and second? I mean, we've used 7 first rd picks in the last 4 years, we're targeting a 19 year old with the pick so it's hardly a case of trading away our future... It just doesn't make sense.
Yeah sure, we finish last next year and it looks like a monumental stuff-up which is probably the AFL reasoning, but surely the chances of that happening are slim enough that we should be afforded to take on the risk.
If we become so bad the AFL can always just give us a priority pick right? 😉

Because there's no exemptions that actually given to this rule. The exemptions are given to needing to take a minimum number of first round picks over 4 years, which the AFL is understandably lenient on if clubs trade in players around the same age/quality.

We applied to break a rule that hasn't been broken before and the AFL said no. It sucks but that's the way it is.
