Seeing as the Cockatoo-Motlaps are at Port for AFLW, do you think Port might make a sneaky play for Nakia Cockatoo?
Isn't his old man Jason who played at the Magpies in the 90's??

Pretty sure that's what Che said when he was on Yokkai Footy a few days or the next week after he did did that zoom call with the twins to announce we had signed them, and he mentioned uncle Jason. Nakia said he was a port supporter before he was drafted.

No it would not: North have alwast said the trade must include a Top Five pick.
We tried and failed with the Eagles; now GWS is involved North will be very, very happy to trade out Pick One for two first rounders.
North will end up with Picks 2 & 3 and other first rounders they can flick to the Saints for Clark

Show me where North have said the trade must include a top 5 pick.

So if all goes through, currently stands as:

Out: Gray, Motlop, Amon, 3 rookies (Mayes, Skinner, Schofield)

In: JHF, Sav, Rioli, Evans, Teackle, 3 draft picks (don’t think we have any rookies for upgrades, Evans could be one of these picks or re-draft Dumont, Frederick, McEntee, not sure how the Teakle listing works)

Other in players mentioned: Ely Smith (C4), McKenna and Jack Graham in the media.

Other out players mentioned: Hayes, Bonner, Frederick, Georgiades (denied), Butters (denied), Duursma (denied)

Forum options: Melican, Cordy, AMT, Stack, Miller, Rosman, McMahon, Narkle

Ford Fairlane - Jason Cockatoo is Nakia's dad and played 4 games for Port in 1994 but I reckon he was here for 2 or 3 years when Che was at the club before being drafted by Essendon in 1993. His father Robert went down to North Melbourne in the 1980's and played in their U/19 and reserves side but did a knee injury.

Jason was a bit of a legend of the NTFL and made their Top 100 team of the century.

NAKIA Cockatoo can see himself wearing a Port Adelaide jumper on AFL draft day. But that hasn’t stopped several rival clubs from speaking to the Southern Districts and Territory Thunder star in the leadup to the November 27 national draft. One of the shining lights at this month’s draft combine, Cockatoo’s photograph and statistical data is well known to AFL recruiting staff.

But Port Adelaide, the club that produced the great Gavin Wanganeen, Fabian Francis and Cockatoo’s dad, long-time NTFL defender Jason, is closest to Nakia’s heart.

“Port is the team I’d love to go to, but just getting to a club would be fantastic,’’ he said. “I’m happy about how I went down at the draft camp. I put in 110 per cent down there and came up with some good results which I’m rapt about.

“Even now, two weeks later, I’m still training, still up and about and waiting to see what happens after what was a terrific week in Melbourne. “I’m holding my breath like everyone else around Australia now, just hoping I get my chance at draft time.’’ Cockatoo turns 18 today, but it is the 35 days until the national draft that concern him most.

The twins talked about uncle Jason when we signed them

The Cockatoo-Motlap connection to Port Adelaide is not only through their Uncle Che, but all their uncles on their mother’s side. Laquoiya said: “All my mother’s brothers – Uncle Che, Uncle David and Uncle Donald all played for Port Adelaide in the SANFL, and Uncle Jason Cockatoo.

“We have a strong family history with the club and for my sister and I, it just made sense to continue our family’s legacy … our uncles are like father figures to us.” Uncle David and Uncle Donald, like their nieces, are twins and both went on to play a handful of games for Melbourne in the AFL after stints with the Magpies in the SANFL.

Smith - lacks speed and scoreboard impact.
McKenna - got enough hbf's.
Graham - has said no.
Melicsn - no.
Cordy - no.
AMT - 29yo no.
Stack - too many issues.
Miller - promising but would Tiggers let him go?
McMahon - who?
Narkle - meh
Rosman - no nothing about him.

Skinner was main list as DFA. So 37 down to 33, with 5 rookies down to 3.

Rioli Sav JHF & Evans takes us back to 37.

If Bonner & Frederick don't go, I think Williams & maybe Lord will get the delisted & re-rookied treatment.

We delisted and re-rookied both Woodcock and Grundy when they were contracted, too. It's not a barrier.
We would not have delisted them and re-rookied while contracted. It’s not possible from what I understand

It’s possible we moved them to the rookie list while contracted, which might be possible.

but they (Grundy , woodcock) almost certainly were out of contract when we did that as they were never on long contracts.

Delisted, with a promise to re-rookie.

There's no reason you can't delist a contracted player. You just have to pay the contract, and it counts in the salary cap.

They were both drafted 1 year earlier, and we're on their initial 2 year contracts.

This is done by delisting them and then redrafting through the rookie draft. It's what Gold Coast were doing with Hugh Greenwood when North swooped in with a bigger offer.

Ah I see. My recollection was we moved them straight to the rookie list, not had to delist contracted players than re-rookie them.

Giants get 18 for Bruhn. They now have 3, 12, 15, 18, 19. Surely some of these picks are gettable for the Horne trade?
We should go to them with 8 and ask for 15, 18 and 19. Then offer North the three for JHF. This draft is 12 kids deep and to be fair, they take 5 first rounders they walk in 2 years…

Surely the only reason theyre asking for a top 20 pick for Esava is due to not haviny anything to get the Henry deal done, can Geelong trade their future first?
Wait for it, Esava to Port, Hayes to Collingwood, Henry to Geel

Actually think Cockatoo would thrive here next year or two. After a year or two of full footy, the family ties back to the club, fills the age bracket we ‘lack’

Of Brisbane we’re selling at the right price for more draft Capital, I would pay 53, assuming 33 and 43 are used for Rioli and Esava respectively.

Amazing when you think about it.
This years premiers end up with pick7.
The AFL a truly unique competition
End up with pick 7 for trading in a good player. AFL is a perfectly balanced game with no exploits.

33 for Rioli and 43 for Esava are both overs IMO.

43 in this year's draft is the equivalent of drafting an inanimate carbon rod. I'm not particularly inspired about bringing in Ratugolea but he's worth trialing in a key defensive position at that price.

I can't see Geelong agreeing to the deal however.

33 for Rioli is overs. At this point we just have to be confident we'll get him in the PSD. No other club is taking him on before our pick.
