Yeah the thing with Ratugolea isn't necessarily that he is worth a first rounder, its that Geelong have invested in him and don't want to lose him. He has a contract with them, they see him having potential, so if you want to break that you have to pay overs.

Its a very different situation to say JHF where at this point its hard to see him ever having a positive impact at Norf. Ratugolea could absolutely stay long-term at the Cats.

If the mega deal was agreed to by all the clubs. We need a future 2nd both GC & GWS have 2 in next years draft. So maybe give these fringe players 3 options North, GWS, GC!

I agree with this, it's just so typical of Geelong, the beneficiaries of so many people players for so little year on year, they're playing handball with a fringe player it's irritating.

Or they’ll delist him next year

Can anyone rationally explain why we didn't get an extra motion to trade our future first and second? I mean, we've used 7 first rd picks in the last 4 years, we're targeting a 19 year old with the pick so it's hardly a case of trading away our future... It just doesn't make sense.
Yeah sure, we finish last next year and it looks like a monumental stuff-up which is probably the AFL reasoning, but surely the chances of that happening are slim enough that we should be afforded to take on the risk.
If we become so bad the AFL can always just give us a priority pick right?

Trading 4 potential quality picks over 2 years for one asset is incredibly risky. Its the AFL saving clubs from itself

You would think what is in our favour here is we are trading them to a basketcase, so saves the AFL having to give more priority picks (they hope)

Decided to listen to a bit of trade radio for the first time this year ... Big mistake! I think I could actually feel my brain cells depleting!! Imagine squeezing all that footy talent into one room, yet not being able to make up a full brain between the lot of them!

If Geelong are trying to screw over Gold Coast and can only offer a future 3rd
We should have a crack at bowes even if he wants to live in melbourne
Offer our future 1st for bowes and 7
Give up 7 and 8 for jhf
Better deal for north better deal for gc
We still lose the same picks but pick up an extra player and don’t have to add any later picks

That would be great, but the afl is not letting us announce until Wednesday just before 7pm CDST
While I don't doubt the AFL has had some influence in delaying this one for news purposes, I think this gets done a reasonable time before deadline such that all parties can on-trade picks received for other deals.

So it’s been what? An hour since the Rankine trade was announced and it still hasn’t been put on the AFL app in any way or mentioned in the trade blog.

But some 4 round pick for a now 3 club player gets a push-notice.
