Trade Targets

Weve got a draft targets thread, thought Id start a trade target thread as well.

Our side is currently like a colander. We badly need:

1) Good, big bodied midfielders that can deliver the ball.
2) Tall, marking target to play forward
3) Close checking small defender
4) Genuine small crumbing forward that has no marking ability and therefore cannot be played as a marking target

We could also do with a mid 20s decent sized Ruck that has around the ground ability.

So who do we target? Will we actually bother trading this year? Will we keep the draft picks instead? Will we move some under performing senior players on to get more draft picks/players?

Some players that might be available (or not) and might fit some of these roles and improve the side (or not)

1) Prismall, Sherman
2) Staker, Clark, Schulz
3) Welsh, L Fisher
4) Varcoe, Corrie

So, who do we chase? Do we bother?

Seaby seems to be dreadfully out of favour with WCE. Still think he has a lot of potential and we are in dire need of a ready ruckman that isn't a septogenarian.

Currency is an issue, but I'd have no problems offering any of the WA contingent if that's what it would take.

If we don't change the forward structure, there's no point getting a tall marking forward. This won't happen unless Choco thinks they have more to offer than Motlop or Ebert, and doesn't decide that they then have to dislodge Tredrea or Westhoff. Good luck.

Agree DT.

I'd be most tempted to go for a ruckman aged 20-25. They are often later to peak in their careers, so there may be a bit more chance you could pick one up whose been underated by their team. We desperately need backup in that department.

As it stands, all of our WA contingent are tradeable.

as far as im concerned, just about every single player on our list should be listed as tradeable. Who cares if it shakes some egos about. If we need to trade a Shaun or Dom or Gray or Pearce to get what we need then we should by all means do it. Im beyond caring about favourites.

Someone like a Seaby or Chris Bryan would be a decent fit for us in my opinion. Not superstars, but arent built like a paddle pop stick, can ruck, can mark, can kick a goal.

Even one of the Hawks young rucks in Renouf or Bailey might be worth sounding out.

OK so:

Beau Dowler - Surplus KPF prospect at Glenferrie.
Mark Seaby - Seemingly out-of-favour readymade 24 year old ruckman.
Brent Prismall - Surplus midfield prospect and ballmagnet who currently rubs shoulders with the very best.

Those three, seem the most realistic if we're prepared to be gung-ho, yes? Is Bailey the young ruck who has done his knee more than once?

Yeah, as already mentioned, Seaby is one i've thought for a while we should target. If we got him for a 3rd rounder i'd probably do that.

Hammered the nail right on the head! :thumbsu:

A few others I like the look of -

Matt Rosa from the Eagles
Adam Hartlett from the Blues
Cleve Hughes from the Tigers
Paul Bevan & Tim Schmidt from the Swans
Sean Rusling from the Magpies
Grant Birchall & Tom Murphy from the Hawks
Adam Campbell from the Dockers

Id say we'd have to give up a hell of a lot more than a 3rd rounder, going by past historical trades of ruckmen.

Actually rucks in the past couple of years have gone for less than I remembered, apart from Wood.

My only thought is that Seaby might be hard to wrangle from West Coast as hes their only other ruck apart from Cox.

He's only just been traded so not really a target, but Wood said in an interview during the week he hasn't ruled out a return to SA at either Port or the crows.

What about having a crack at Fevola or Barry Hall? They'd be about our only chance for restructuring the forward line. Feel free to blast away, but I bet someone was dying to ask. :p

I think we have a very good core of players capable of taking us to top 4 next year without any additions or deletions to the list.

I do not think we have the coaching staff capable of taking us to the top 8 next year nor after that.

Who should we head hunt? Either assistant or head coaches.

Get a new head coach and teh assistants would follow.
There is one question that has to be asked.
Is Choco tanking?
It is so bad out there that there aren't too many other ways of justifying our sub par performances.

I think he is to a certain extent. I believe if we had to win last night we would have won easily.

Like you said before I think we have a list capable of finishing top four next year. If we get a reasonable draw and start the year off well next year we will be top 4

Apart from `Choco has lost the players'.
