They're nuts to get Dawes for pick 20 with Clark there and Hogan lined up for 2014. Hogan is a beast. They'd be better offer looking for a cheap fill in who could hold the fort whilst they develop Hogan. A KPF such as Mason Shaw or a KPD prospect could be available at 20. They're still in a position where they could do with both.

If I was Collingwood, I'd be more interested in getting Jacobs than Young. A third year player like Jacobs could become a first 22 player and replace Wellingham in their rotations. They might have picks 17, 18 or 20 to play with in trade period. I wouldn't hesitate to offer one of those picks for Jacobs if we had them. Jacobs is a half back/mid like Atley, Heppell and Smedts. Tougher than Shortsteppell. Probably would have been picked around 11 to 15 if he was in this draft. Arguably a safer bet than the players who have a bad leg and dodgy knees.

Bit harsh. We actually have a plethora of tall forward options, Melbourne certainly don't. Dawes has a contract and it's only speculation that the Pies have to let him go due to salary cap issues. And Dawes may be average but as a part of a whole he has proven he can play the game well enough.

Melbourne need to get their skates on and start moving up the ladder so I can certainly see why Dawes appeals. He's certainly not worth pick 4 but then that was some Pies Troll who suggested that.

I would say Melbourne will part with 20 and cover his contract at least partially. If they have decided he's their man than whether the majority thinks it's unders or overs is irrelevant. It's just the price.

Might be a bit harsh but I have a soft spot for them .... because of Jimmy ..... and what I have seen since his death has been just wrong on so many levels.

Would like to see them make some good decisions and start climbing the ladder (not at our expense of course!)

I just hope they don't blink first pick 20 and 350k a year is overs but understandable anything more and quite frankly they deserve what they get.

Thank god we have not traded yet ... some really crazy trades going through that will hurt clubs down the track!

If news of GWS interest in Warnock is true then it might mean they are not interested in drafting Grundy. They may see that investment in an 18yo Ruck as too risky and would prefer to use their 1,2 and 3 picks on mids.

In this case i think we are a real chance of getting their Pick 12 or 13 for Warnock, who along with Giles can carry their rucks for 5 or 6 years.

A Pick 12/13 swap for Warnock would suit us down to the ground.

Agree with all of this, I don't like the idea of upgrading our pick 11 with Warnock for either pick 2 or 3. Having pick 11 and 12 is much more exciting as the talent is good this year in the top 15-20.

With injury queries over Kruezer and Hampson should we keep Warnock?

Melbourne need to get Dawes as much as the Pies may need to get rid of him. They've been languishing down the bottom for way too long (no higher then 12th since 2006) and need something to hang their hat on and help sell hope to their fans. Their smart fans will see right through this and see it for what it is, a taping over the cracks to hide the fact that they be stuffed up their rebuild.
The not so smart fans will get sucked in by the paying of big bucks for average players like Clarke and Dawes, and think that the good times are just around the corner.

Nope. Kreuze is injury prone, but offers much more on one leg than Warnock. Hampson the same. Both are far more athletic, strong and ready to put in second-efforts.

Time will tell on the Dawes trade, but they now have a good structure to draft around with a Clark/Dawes set-up. A low on confidence Dawes this year did indeed spud it up, I remember Roughead doing the same thing a few years ago. I think he'll be a good get for the Dees, pick 20 sounds about right. Lets face it, looking at their last few drafts, Chris Dawes is more than likely to match whoever they may have drafted, if the deal goes through.

Maybe they have stuffed up their rebuild but while they're still an actual club they can't afford to keep languishing.

They just don't have the time to wait for whatever young key talls they have to develop and be a force and lets face it, Cloke was never leaving and Tippett was never coming.

Melbourne need experienced players everywhere and certainly in the F50. Dawes is not the messiah and I'm sure it's not just the smart fans that realise this but they don't really have any other options than to make a serious play for him.

I wonder how the new ruck rule will affect this trade.

Bodywork in the ruck is effectively gone, meaning Dawes' value takes a significant hit.

He's no longer a KPP who can pinch hit in the ruck. Just a very average forward.

Similarly, it raises the value of Shaun Hampson. He's a genuine ruck who can be an average to above average forward.

Boys - superfooty trade HQ had two posts today rumouring Yarran to crows.

Im assuming its shite but thought I would just if anybody had heard anything.

Cheers

Yarran re-signed for 2 years earlier this year. Will not be going anywhere.
