This is my first year of supercoach (and dream team) and im finding it hard to grasp why most people want to save up their trades. Do you think players like J.Brown, N.Stevens, T.Kenelley J.Corey etc. are going to go down in price during the season??? I wouldnt think so. You should be jumping on the quality players you dont have already before their prices change, not after it. Ofcoure it probably helps if you left a bit of space in the cap before round one, and i will keep 2-3 trades just incase someone gets injured.

Now, i am new to this so if im completely wrong, go ahead and correct me, but i think you need to take a risk to win, and trading early seems to be something no one wants to do, so i'll do it ;)

You want to try and have as many of those sorts of players as you can before round 1 lockout. The reason you will need to save trades is because when your rookies go up in price, you will use trades freeing up the cash generated from them by trading them for other rookie priced players. You then use a further trade to upgrade your midprice players to guns.

Moral of the story: trades are incredibly valuable.

Also don't forget that you only get 20. No point blowing them all early and being stuck by round 17/18 with suspensions, injuries, etc. and no trades left to do anything about it.

Yep, ill be keeping 3 or 4 for injuries.

This week, i traded out Symes for Kenelly (Because it seems hes playing Malceskis role)
And Hall out for Franklin (Just because Franklin is capable of scoring higher than Hall, I know this isnt the best trade, though)

like many, i was very disappointed with stanton's game. he was on zero sc points for the majority of the first half!! even though he is a gun player, it happened once so whats stopping this from happening again cos he will be tagged. i dont think he was tagged as much last yr or during the nab cup.

anyway, im thinking about getting rid of him for priddis or someone like that. his break even will be extremely high for the next few rounds so instead of wasting a trade on a "inflated rookie", im gonna trade him now for a player who's price value will skyrocket.

moral - potentially save 1 trade and cash.

plus stanton will be tagged by ling=> his round 3 breakeven will most likey be even higher so his value will drop considerably unless he breaks 115+ for the next 2 weeks.

Why not wait until after Round 2 then?

Im not using any trades this week and i would suggest no one else does as well.

The thing you have to remember is the teams are released on Thursday night and some coaches have a nasty habit of surprising you by getting their players injured at training and not telling you about it.

Dont make trades till after the teams are released and preferably not until just before the lockout (Caution of server crashes)

That said there are a few times when you want to make trades.

1. Round 2: It is not a huge issue if you make a trade or two after round 2 to capture a player that might jump hugely in price. Its also a good opportunity to perhaps put yourself in a position where you can pick up a gun player. Drop that under performing mid priced player for someone that is going to go up in value. You can then look at a gun that might have come down in value after round 3.

2. Injuries/ Suspensions: If you have a player who has been injured / Suspended a trade might be in order... that said if Jon Brown was suspended for 1 round don't trade him off... just use an emergency to cover him for a week and you have no problems.

3. Upgrades: The whole idea of super coach is to get as many high scoring players as possible going into the second half of the season. Use trades throughout the season to maximize the value on your field and get those gun players. Make sure you leave 5-7 trades for the last 3-4 rounds though as these are the milk rounds.

If you can make 2 trades a round for the last 4 rounds then you know your going to finish strong, any injuries you can cover and you will go a long way to winning your league :)

When you picked Stanton you picked him for the season, right?

So why trade him off? It doesnt matter if he drops in value because he is a 100+ a game player imo.

The problem is, we have seen how he goes getting a hard tag for the first time. And he never got near it. So that's worrying, he has to face guys like Kornes, Ling, Sewell, Kirk etc.

If Ling beats him, he is out, Priddis is in. Can't believe how cheap Priddis is, can't believe I overlooked him.

Well I have Stanton in my Dreamteam not my Supercoach, so ill hold on to him there.

It depends on your strategy.

I know alot of 'experts' will tell you to save your trades and they're probably right, however I'm using 4 trades before the price rise.

You just have to map out your plan and hope for the best.

Me personally:

4 trades pre round 3 - get in performing rookies and jiggle the team around a little.

12 trades - upgrade trades, cash cows to new rookies and upgrade rookie and mid range players.

4 trades - long term injuries, serious drop of form. atleast 2 of these trades will be kept to the end of the season.

So you only expect two long-term injuries and drops in form combined?

Define long term and define drop in form.

I won't be trading out any guns unless they score below 50 for 4 weeks in a row and even then I'll probably hold onto them.

I classify a long term injury as maybe 6 weeks plus. I would hope I only get two of them. Even then if my bench players are good enough I'll just throw them onto the park for a few weeks. E.g. S.D.Thompson vs Mattner I'm not losing much, if anything.

The main reason I'm 'wasting' 4 trades early is to settle the team. In the mad rush before lockout and not being able to change the team I made some stupid decisions that need to be rectified. Better now than when my players lose value and the ones I want to get gain value.

OK, the actual trades are pretty good, but I wouldn't have done them. Firstly always follow the Ricky Pettard rule and never trade before the teams have been named. Secondly, why waste the trades so early? Who knows Hall and Symes might tear it up in Round 2. Key word: might.

personally, i used two staright away this week. got rid of azza edwards and got nath thompson, and got rid of solomon and got mcpharlin..

my theory is that might as welll use some while the prices are lower to fine tune your team, then once the players values go up, stop for a while, and just have faith in a well refined team.

i also got 2078 on the weekend so hopefullly go up on that

If you've traded this early in the week you're doing yourself no favours.

Eww, had Mcpharlin last year, that bloke is more hassle than hes worth.

I encourage everybody to keep up all of this sideways trading. Will make it easier to fly past you all once things start to get serious.

If your going to trade keep it late..there's no point trading someone in who get injured on wednesday.

I've made the mistake before by only leaving about 4 for injuries but it just isn't worth it. The only trades i'll make are for long term injuries and cah cows.

yeh on second thought....the key to winning SC is to trade out your best players for cheapies so you have more money, a minimum of 6 trades in the first 3 weeks is a must:p

Damn i just gave away the ticket to no.1

something i kinda thought about i guess
you have 8 bench players with probably about 6 of them playing at the moment
by the end of the year you may have gone through about 8 cash cows but to use them costs 2 trades one to downgrade and the other to upgrade someone into a gun
this wastes 16 trades already leaving 4 for injuries which never seems to be enough
if you guys want to keep doing sideway trades by all means do it just hope you dont get any injuries

But are trades like Kennelly IN, Symes OUT sideways trades? Symes plays a different role and i dont think hes gonna improve for supercoach.

Also, Reiwoldt, Franklin etc. will probably score big this week as the umpires will be looking for 'tunneling' and paying a free kick against any defender that moves. :D
