Yeh he should do a bit better but when your shooting from 55+ most of the time 45% is about right. I actually think he doesn't go for goal enough.
was a horrible set shot this year, but i think on the run he actually hit the target more then he missed

So if Murphy and Young both leave as UFA.. what sort of compo pick would we be looking at from the AFL?
If traded on the market i would suggest:
Young - pick 25-35
Murphy - pick 30-45

Would that possibly net us end of round 1 pick for the two of them?
at this stage probably around pick 24 or so.

Don't make excuses for his poor shots on goal. If he's shooting at less than 50% from outside 50m, then he should be either looking to shoot from where he is more accurate or look to pass to a teammate.

I had mail before the trade period started that weller & lake will be hawks next year, I chuckled because I didn't think the dogs would let Brian go, after the past weeks trade results this mail could be correct, bring on maverick now!!! I'd say a fair deal would be murphy & gilham for weller & a pick.

Well how many inside 50s end up in goals ? 20-25% max. So taking the shot at 45% accuracy is easily the percentage play.

Young - 2nd round around pick 42
Murphy - 3rd or 4th pick in the 50's, 60's.

So when 20-25% end up in goals, you'd condone just getting points? Sounds like a winning plan when you've got a forward capable of kicking 6+ sitting in the forward line and another forward with a terrific set shot at goal.

You talking about Buddy here or someone else o_O

Can anyone actually provide evidence of Boumans lack of discipline or is it all just more rubbish "word of mouth" that quite frankly, Im quite over.

You are acting like Murphy is a champion of our side. How do you know if Murphy played, he would've stopped Shaw or Morton? You don't know this, so stop crying about the GF and move on. It's time to look forward, Murphy will be a loss to our depth and has been a very solid player for us but the HFC aren't exactly going to rue the day we let him go to the GC.

I think you should take a lesson from your own post

If he is delisted then I guess you have your proof that it wasn't all just rubbish.

When I saw him on the frontpage(backpage?) of the herald sun, I was like "that'll be me oneday".

Doesn't the AFL look at the net gain/loss to a club during free agency. That is the reason why Port traded for Anus Morfrees instead of getting him as a free agent as they had lost Peirce and Chaplin.

So if hawks lose Murph, Gilham and Young surely we would get quite a high pick? Or will the AFL shaft us in its usual fashion and give pick 100 in the rookie draft?

I think even if we keep Young but lose Murph and Gilham we should be getting a pick in the 20's at least.

Gilham isn't a FA, but I think you're right about the net loss. Osborne is also a FA, so if we were to lose all three we'd get a look in at a decent pick.

There appears to be some speculation about our interest in Weller and yet I have not noticed any Hawk supporters raving about him nor any Suns supporters devastated about losing him. I contrast this with the vitriol directed at Gunston last year by Crows supporters who obviously rated him.

Does anyone here really rate Weller or are we all relying on the judgment of our recruiters and the usual over optimism that is directed towards all trade targets such as Boumann last year. I seem to recall that the more naive posters had him playing fullback in our best 22 and we know how that turned out.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has seen Weller play in the last few years. And yes I accept he may not be a trade target for the Hawks anymore than others mentioned but it will pass the time until something interesting happens.

I'll splash the info on Weller, as I've seen him play every game for the Suns.

Big body, tough as nails kid. Will crash through packs Campbell Brown style and try to burst his way through tackles. Still coming to grips with the fact that he cannot do this at AFL level. At least not as easily as his junior days, where his big body helped him up.

Very nuggety little guy. I think he wants to play as a midfielder, very in and under type. But due to our depth in the midfield, he's been forced to play as a small defender. He's okay in this role without being a stand out. Likely still outside our 22 when we're fit, unfortunately. He has no trouble finding the ball, but every time he disposes the ball I hold my breath, simply because he has been known to shank it often.

With that said, he has the courage and tools to make it. Will back himself in at least, which is what you want.

I'm still surprised that he's putting his toe in the water. His whole family moved up to GC just recently. Seems odd that he'd just ditch them for Melbourne, especially since we're offering him a contract to stick around. I wouldn't be gutted if he left. I WOULD be gutted if his little brother, Lachie, currently playing for Broadbeach, left with him though. Amazing talent.

Comparing him to Gunston is a little off the mark. Gunston has the talent to become elite. Will put on mass and grow into that role. Unfortunately I don't see as much upside to Mav from what he's already shown, save for maybe some better disposals. He'll never be elite, but could find a place as a solid contributor in the squad.
