Gosch's paddock this morning. It's becoming a theme. Not sure if the turf at olympic park isn't ideal, or they want to train at Gosch's once a week.

  • Adams was not present, but this was not unusual, as he doesn't always do the first session of the week.
  • Noble did some running. But he said he will be fine.
  • Checkers continued his running, he should be back in the main group next week
*Maynard and Sidebottom completed the whole session
* DC did part, but then left early. Think its a bit of a side strain, but we'll see how he goes on Thurs.

Being the first session of the week, there was lots of running involved.
A stack of players in the middle. On the punt road side you had a number of players doing their own sprints. Ginni. Mitchell. reef. A few others.
Oscar. Begg and Cox did some ruck stuff with tackling a bag and ground ball movements.

There was a bit of ball movement activities, and different drills split up around the ground.
fair bit if goal kicking practice, their attempts were poor, I think they need to keep at it lol

Jamie did most of the session, then did a running session for the rest of it.

Coxy had his fan club at training. Some americans and their kids (the father is from melb originally) who were in town for a holiday, and came down to watch the boys, and Coxy do their thing. Lovely people.

The players walked to the ground bit at a time. Took off their runners and put on their boots. Ginni took off his pies scarf and placed it on the cart, put on his boots with IQ and started stretching. A few boys were using the car as a way to do some stretching.
Wearing #6

Jordy wore #43
There was another another #43 in the white, initially I thought it was Longmire, but think it was Chad Mulvogue. They look a bit similar.
Nick wearing #5 as he sometimes does.
Kreuger in #12

Unfortunately DC didn't get through his fitness test, but that's okay. Just get him right for next week. Which just means Frampton holds his spot, and will likely play 2nd ruck with Coxy taking over the duties.
frampton looked to be playing forward and ruck this morning.

Hill did have an incident during a contest where they tested out his knee, but thinks he seemed to be alright. Little limp, but probably just a knock more than anything. Whether they'll have him get scans to be on the safe side? Who knows. Maybe.

Gabelich was on SEN Jen2310 and spoke on Hill. It’s an ankle and as of right now he’s not locked in for Saturday. My guess based on what he said is he’s named and they make a game day call.

Geez, don't risk it against Freo... Ginni and Harrison more than capable of holding the fort while the ankle gets right.

Yeah, which makes sense why they have 2 forwards on the emg list.
I thought it was ankle at the time as he was limping off the ground, but then they checked his knee, according to my friend who with with me and had a better look when they were working on him.

I have been very impressed by Harrison's attitude. He's one of the most humble blokes on the list and I think it's going a long way to his success. He walked into the club virtually unheard of and is now best twenty six material.

Any shred of doubt and he should sit out for this one to be on the safe side.

Made a big impression from the start last year. Should have debuted long ago, but had issues with his hammys and covid last year.

I find it a strange one. He's an excellent athlete who got really good stats in the under 18s - why wasn't he rated?
Not sure really. Guess his kicking efficiency was something that was said he was to work on. Mostly played U18 sanfl.

Harrison did his best work late in the year for his state, earning a representative jumper and holding his spot in the Croweaters’ Under 19 lineup. He has elite speed and evasion, as well as an impressive vertical jump leading him to dominate the Draft Combine with a slick 20-metre time of 2.845 seconds. At Under 18s level this year, Harrison averaged an impressive 25.2 disposals and 4.5 tackles but only managed the one senior game for the Roosters' Reserves.

Add in the fact Harvey racked up 5.4 clearances, 6.0 marks and 3.2 inside 50s, by sheer weight of numbers the 18-year-old could not have done much more. With his outstanding athleticism, Harvey is more of a project talent who with some ironing out could be a value selection. He has clean skills but could improve his kicking consistency, and build greater strength - weighing in at 71kg - but his numbers speak for themselves and his SANFL Under 18s season did his AFL Draft chances no harm.

STRENGTHS:

  • Athleticism
  • Work rate
  • Clearances
  • Accumulation
  • Consistency

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Kicking consistency
  • Strength

Reading his underage stats, I'm impressed. What a steal for Pick 52!

Sometimes, good players aren't rated by the market so fall and a lucky team swoops. And that was in this instance. But Harvey's a Pie for the next two and fighting it out with Giinivan to succeed Elliott.

Yeah, but it wont be his long term spot. he's more of a mid who can play forward, or even start forward and float through the midfield like Lippa; or even probably more of an elliott type, when elliott used to play midfield too. they want to get more midfield time in him. But we'll see how he goes and what they do with him. Great attributes. His strength is around stoppages from what I have seen since he was drafted.
Reckon elliott only has a couple years left anyway.

Outside of the ones playing we dont actually have many small forwards. Ginni. HH, Richards and Murley (who wont last beyond this year) So they'll all get opportunities going forward.

HH has certainly worked on his strength - he's a powerful unit now.
He also seems to have a natural crumbing ability and goal sense.

Darcy Cameron would have to be pretty much the only player worth wondering about at training today, as to whether he's back doing full training?

Unless another 1-2 week injury comes out of nowhere of course...

Given the above, the absolute pantsing he gave Lycett in Rd 2 and how underdone Lycett is Cameron will get the call up you’d assume.

This week could well tell us what our preferred structure is forward of the ball and I’m not fussed over who misses between AJ and Cox (Frampton won’t play seniors this week, IMO). I probably err toward the added mobility of AJ, but the extra height of Cox could be dangerous against their undersized defensive group and against Finlayson through the ruck.
