Freeing Moore up has hurt his game more than helped. The main games to look at are v WC and Melbourne we’re he got lost without a dangerous opponent and if Murphy or Frampton’s man can engage him all hell breaks loose at ground level. It would be a big gamble late in the season given how it’s previously worked and the danger at ground level from Geelong…
And his hamstring

I'm go to be that guy too. I'd argue that DNA Day is either 1 word or 3 words, depending on whether you expand DNA to its 2 words or consider it to be an abbreviation and not a word.

Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid Day is 4 words, so it’s one or four.

Depends on how the opposition set up, but with teams featuring a few talls, like Port or Brisbane, I’d rather Frampton gets Dixon and Moore gets Marshall than Moore have to wrestle with Dixon all night. Murphy would be good for Duursma.

Brisbane just became a different proposition with Gunston out, but generally speaking I’d rather Frampton take Daniher and follow him into the ruck, and Moore can destroy Hipwood. Murphy would have been the guy for Gunston but will be even more effective on whichever marking forward they throw in, providing Maynard and Quaynor can take Cameron and Rayner.

I suggest you've made the mistake of knowing stuff. My google search leads me to Deoxyribonucleic acid?

I blame Americans for that.

You can call it DA if you like but The Great Grundy will have a field day talking about vaccine mandates and how we’re a police state.

Even worse, the whole concept our "getting our DNA back" is flawed. It is one thing you can't lose.

Unless you’re mutating!

But yes it’s a stupid, cliché analogy. I hate it. Unfortunately what it “in our DNA” is talking about what’s in our DNA, and it makes me cringe every time I hear it.

My scientific knowledge of DNA comes entirely from cop shows.
As long as Se7en was one of them, I’m willing to allow it.

EDIT: I don’t actually think DNA was mentioned in the movie, only blood types IIRC, but it’s great anyway. :D

Any idea if and when they will train across the weekend? Coming from interstate for Fridays game and always like to watch training if I can.

Also, what’s the go with the Collingwood Shop? Will that be open at the AIA Centre? TIA

** Rd 24 I should say, but both Rd 23 and 24 being Friday night games, training would be similar days I’d think.

From Side by Side
Frosty chill gradually morphed into pleasant warmth under an unblemished sky, though a lot of surface water coruscated on the grass. Nick arrived just after nine, with a member of the staff and he was navigating his way to the entrance using crutches as his mobility aid.

Below is the breakdown of black and white teams, though Ryan entered the arena wearing white, but was soon donning the black and all signs pointed to him debuting against the Lions, in Moore’s spot which might leave Ruscoe somewhat aggrieved. Crisp was first out. He attacked the mini hurdles under the supervision of a trainer and then proceeded to do some limbering up with an emphasis on lateral movement on the outer side of the ground on his own.

The black and white attire for the day is as follows:

BLACK

Pendles

Ryan

Howe

Crisp

Checkers

Adams

Murphy (who is usually in white)

Markov

Cameron

Mitchell

McStay

Noble

Elliott

Cameron

Maynard

Frampton

WHE

Hill

WHITE

Ruscoe

Bianco

Wilson

Harrison

Kreuger

Allan

Reef

Eyre

Begg

Steene

Sidey

Draper

Carmichael

Ash

Ginnivan

Murley

JDG clad in black jacket with a hood, took part in the early drills and then Joined Moore in rehab. Moore did a lot of high knee lifts and then the pair ran for about forty-five minutes under instructions from a male and female physio and they were provided with targets to meet. They briefly paused between each set.

After training proper commenced, there was a group undertaking some ball skills, while the rest were warming up on the mini hurdles. Some were jumping over them and the apparatus in this area was attacked with gusto.

They then cleaved into two different groups – one focussed on tackling, while the other was running while stretching and straining against ropes as they sprinted up and down the middle of the ground.

The whole cohort then undertook some more running closer to the river end goals.

Following this there were four groups assembled around the ground. Three focussed on contested work, combined with some eluding opponents. The players wore either their original top or a coloured vest. The other group mainly consisting of guys who would be playing in the middle concentrated on centre square drills. Thereafter there was a hydration break with some accompanying instruction from the coaching group.

After this those attired in black conducted a ball movement drill using a semi-circle of the ground on the pavilion side. The other group comprising those wearing white completed some contested work under the tutelage of Josh Fraser. Josh Eyre was training with this group.

Both group rotated with the blacks now splitting up with one team wearing lime-green vests and this was an activity based around contesting, evasion and slick hand balling. The volume was high here and Selwood praised the players after this activity exclaiming that “it was really good and really well executed.” Following another drill, he lauded the “great application” of the group.

The last main item on the menu was the match simulation. By now Bobby Hill had departed the scene, slipping away surreptitiously as none among our group could recall him leaving. This was not super long but was quite keenly contested. As alluded to above, Ryan was playing on the black team. Howe was in attack, while Sidey was lining up on Ginni at one point. Kelly and WHE opposed each other on the wing , while Cox and Cameron did battle against one another in the ruck. It was pleasing to see Reef striding athletically through the middle and he and Allan look like composing part of our on-ball brigade in the future. Checkers did battle with Begg who was playing in defence and moving quite well. There was some semblance of system as the black team put together exciting handball chains, one ending up in Howe’s hands (he was opposed to Eyre) and he marked it as our deepest forward who led to the ball. Interestingly the white team scored more goals. At the end each team formed a group with their respective coaches.

After this those destined to play in the middle undertook some contested work in the centre square with Frampton, Cox, Begg and Cameron rucking while a trainer held the jumping bag. Another group assembled on the pavilion side of the arena and participated in yet more contesting work. It was interesting to see so many fans ring the Glasshouse side of the oval with many young children of school age decked out in their black and white jumpers and holding footballs enjoying watching their heroes.

As a footnote WHE plays his 200th game this week. The track watchers seemed a bit agnostic about our chances against the Lions and are quite wary of the form of our arch enemy. There is also a bit o concern about the untimely injuries to important players. There is some suspicion regarding the possible effects of our training loads on these soft tissue concerns.

Training - August 16th. Round 23.

A 2 degree morning turned into a lovely day by the end, as the sun was out. Nice late winter/early autumn morning for some training.

Rehab group:
Darcy & JDG, who did the warm ups, then some running along the boundary. They weren't concerned, but in a good mood. Both will be back soon. Jordy next week I imagine.

Nick was hanging around, and got around Jakob and the boys after it was announced he was gonna debut. Even injured, he is doing the team thing.

Match sim teams:

Black;

  • Lippa
  • IQ
  • Maynard
  • Elliott
  • Mitchell
  • JDaicos
  • Noble
  • Pendles
  • Mcstay
  • Adams
  • DC
  • Frampton
  • Sidey
  • Ryan
  • Crisp
  • Murphy
  • Beau
  • WHE
  • Ginni
  • Markov
  • Howe
  • Mihocek

White;

  • Bianco
  • Wilson
  • Kreuger
  • Allan
  • Macrae
  • Draper
  • Kelly
  • Ruscoe
  • Reef
  • Murley
  • Richards
  • Harrison
  • Begg
  • Johnson
  • Steene
  • Carmichael
  • Cox

The only question remains is who will be sub?
Someone from the white team.

Bobby Hill did the warm ups, then disappeared. I didn't notice he wasn't there until they split into groups of B/W for match sim. We know now its hamstring related, so must have happened during the early drills.

Before match sim they split into individual groups where they worked on ground balls, also centre bounce work.

They also did a drill that focused on pressure as you have the ball in hand, so you had to be elite at handballing to your teammate. They did this to both groups.

Then post match sim was another pressure type drill that involved a bunch of players, except the rucks and a few others that were doing a few different things elsewhere.

Match sim:

Howe started forward
Begg in defence
Josh Eyre (from our VFL side) was at training and working with the defenders, and lining up against Howe and checkers during match sim.
Carmichael was forward (don't think he attended any centre bounces -- Maybe his thumb was causing him issues he wouldn't be able to do much contested stuff?) reef was midfield, so they basically swapped places.

Midfield:
Reef, Allan, Macae (cox ruck) v Josh, Adams, Mitchell. Pendles was on the wing :O Sidebottom was opposite him in white.
WHE on the other wing v Wilson
Crisp and Pendles then rotated through the middle, with Josh going back to the wing.

Richards seemed to line up at hb

Defence was pretty settled for the black team with (minus moore) Ryan. Markov. Murphy. Frampton. IQ. Noble. Maynard
Forward you had. Mcstay. Checkers, Ginni. Beau. Lippa. Howe. Adams down there at times.

Match sim:

I think we may sign Eyre at the end of the season.

Training: Monday August 21st.

This morning started at 10:30 and went til 12. Running late, probably reviews and all that. Some of the AFLW girls were on the ground when I got there and doing some light stuff.

No Ryan. Jamie and Moore (both were in sydney for the WC last night)

Sidebottom and Nick only did bike work.

Maynard.
Mitchell
Murphy
carmichael

Did a running session. Then Murphy and Carmichael left to go inside after chatting to wade. I've been told Murphy has a corky in his back, which explains why he was a little shaky when trying to run this morning.

Think just management for Mitchell and Maynard.

There was a real focus on fighting with contests, 1v 1, Defensive work and spoiling. They did some work on ball movement as well.

When it came to match sim, the VFL players had gone inside bar Dean (and Kelly) who played, good to get some of footy stuff into him, and he looked good. Hoping for an injury free pre-season.

You had:

Frampton. Markov. Noble v Checkers. WHE. Ginni (they were missing one forward so Lippa had to go in the middle and WHE up forward)
Cameron v Cox
Crisp. De Goey. Daicos v Pendles. Adams. Lippa

Dean. IQ. Kelly v Hill. Mcstay. McCreery

Dean played? He’s basically a new recruit for us , let’s hope his body comes right
