My guess is the bone would be fine but the muscles around it my need to be restrengthened as he was off it for 4-5 weeks. And id assume even when healed there would be discomfort in the area. Thats my Dr Nick Riviera opinion

I guess

I just assumed that given the bone itself the patella isn't prone to any sort of pressure or manipulation like an arm or leg could then you'd think it would be a faster/safer injury to return from once healed?

Obviously the risk comes in the form of another knee on knee hit

I had a really random thought seeing that.

Say Daicos didn't live in Australia and grew up elsewhere, would his athlete poise transfer and see him starring as a professional soccer player in Europe? Or could you imagine Daicos as a quarterback in the NFL?

Not even remotely close to being able to play QB. Soccer I don’t really know.

I'm not medical expert, but if this is really just a hairline fracture in the patella, then why isn't it as simple as "bone is healed, good to go"?

Not his patella. His tibia.

It’s generally accepted that standard bony healing in the lower limb takes 6 weeks to “consolidation”, which is where essentially the bone is back to full strength.

Nick fractured his tibia on August 5th, his six weeks are up on September 16th.

They are gradually loading him up, but he was never realistically a chance of returning even to full training before that six week mark. It’s good that he’s been able to start loading it, and build up a bit of strength/fitness/confidence/touch prior to September 16th.

After that he’ll be allowed to do everything, but as they put him through additional challenges they’ll be seeking feedback as to how the knee is feeling, to ensure no further flare-ups. He needs to be running near 100% to put him back out there, we have too much invested in him to take risks.

What news/observations from training today?

Lighter skills session.
No Darcy Moore, but he was there yesterday so prob taking the session off.

Reef back out there, with the blue no contact cap.
De Goey, Mitchell spent most of the session doing a running session.
Others that started off raining early are Maynard. Daicos. Jamie. Reef.

Oscar also was back out there after his incident on the weekend, did a lot of running, early skills

They did a lot of line work, with moving the ball inside 50, goal kicking, ground ball work.

As per The Age he's had his hand put in a cast to avoid any tendon damage.
